I was one of those few lucky Adelaidians who got to see the Wonderwalls event as it was being created by so many Famous Street Artists locally and from around the world.
To watch a 5 story high art piece being created with a cherry picker was truly something I will never forget. Just the scale of it was mind-blowing. How the heck do you manage to paint something with that much detail that big. Talent, patience and (I'm sure) a lot of practice. I thought that they would have used some sort of grid reference, but I was told a lot of them free hand the art. Wow, just wow!
So, after this fab event, the Port is a colourful artistic industrial landscape for us all to enjoy. If you are interested in looking at any of the art pieces, the Port Adelaide Information Centre (66 Commercial Rd) have a map and self guided tour you can take.
My favourite piece is one that his behind the Red Lime Shack down a little alley just off Robe St. It's a painting of a old lady who looks like she is just about to go out for fishing trip. It looks like a interrupted photograph of her sipping Farmers Union Iced Coffee (So South Aussie) and being startled, she has lost her hat in the wind. The detail is just so impressive, I have uploaded a photo. But, best see it in person to give it justice.
There is a whole lot of South Australian Art here as well. You can see that there is a lot of upcoming talent locally and well respected by graf artists on the streets. All of the pieces have remained untouched for over a year now. So that is great to see!
If you have not been down to Port Adelaide for a while. Well, you are in for a big surprise. Not only does it look so much more cooler with this art around the place, but it is attracting some pretty cool businesses as well.
This is a great way to spend the weekend with some free entertainment for kids and friends. I have added a link to this listing to the City of Port Adelaide Enfield website which gives you a link to the self guided tour of the art. Print off that map and enjoy! read more
