I can only share my personal experience. I had my first 4 children in the hospital with western doctors that induced each with pitossin. The babies were born in a very sterile environment that required me to be tied to monitoring machines and IV's. Then there's the always invasive and uncomfortable cervix checks every hour as well. After each birth the baby's cord was cut quickly and their entrance into the world for the first few minutes of life were filled with poking, prodding, bright lights etc when really all each of them and I just wanted to be in each other's space (the same space we shared for 9 months). My 2 of these 4 were 9 lbs and suffererd from yellow jaundice which I now realize could have been easily avoided by allowing the placenta to stay attached a few minutes longer after birth so baby receives much needed nutrients that are still pulsating through the umbilical cord after delivery. My recoveries were painful because I still had pitossin pumping through my body several weeks after and I was absolutely dealing with post partum depression and anemia after the loss off blood and hormones that went with delivery. All normal western stuff so far, yes? With the last 2 pregnancies I chose to go with more ancient and empowering ways of bringing my babies to the planet. Part of this centered around the placenta, the temple that houses our incredible little miracle until they choose to take our breaths away with their first breath. The concept was odd to me at first because I'd be eating something that came from my body and our child grew in but I rationalized it by saying "I'm not frying it up like a steak" and "we take supplements all the time that come from all kinds of strange things". I mean, most of the planet eats hot dogs and the flesh of other creatures, right? It made it easier to try for me because it was in a pill form and I am so grateful that I did it! My recovery was much faster (bleeding stopped in half the time ), my 9 1/2 lb baby didn't have colic or jaundice, my breast milk was richer, engorgement was minimal and I didn't suffer from post partum depression or anemia. When our next child came, there was no question that I would do it again. We are now pregnant again and I will absolutely be doing it again! You cannot get the same hormones to balance you in a synthetic from or a piece of fish as you can from your own body. I believe that this is beneficial for baby too because they continue to receive a boost of the same hormones while breast feeding as they did in utero. Although she was a little difficult to get a hold of at first (probably because she works as a midwife also and they have crazy schedules) we were very pleased with the classes. I had been around a lot of babies and pregnancies so I didn't feel the need to take a class, but I am so glad my husband insisted! We both learned so much. Since we were the only ones in each session, she was able to answer our exact questions and talk more about areas that we wanted to, as opposed to needing to stick to a certain curriculum. She was great at making good use of the time and making sure she covered all the important areas. My husband loved that she showed us some funny video clip each time pertaining to what we were going to talk about that evening. I can definitely say that I used some of her tips in labor and it absolutely helped! I would highly recommend her.

Sarah had tons of suggestions, which she emailed to us shortly after the visit, and I look forward to trying everything! She was super thorough and really took her time with us (the appt was just under 2 hours) and I feel like she really listened to my concerns and gave great explanations for things. My…read morefirst had a severe tongue tie that made it extremely difficult to latch but hospital lactation missed it. Working with Miracle of Nurture we got prompt treatment and overcame it and enjoyed our nursing relationship until she naturally weaned at 18 months. When my son presented with different nursing and breathing struggles I knew I need to see someone at Miracle of Nuture and have been just as impressed with my care this time around with Sarah and feel hopeful that things will improve quickly!

Brooke and Rebecca's care was impeccable from the beginning…read more Communication was clear and prompt and my husband and I instantly felt we were in good hands at our first complimentary consultation session. They asked many questions of us and we of them. They were well organized and complete. We felt informed about every step of the process and in creating our (loose) birth plan. After our last session together before my son Matthew's birth, my husband unexpectedly passed away. Needless to say, so much about my birth process and my emotional state was in flux. Brooke and Rebecca gave me another session with my new birth support partner (my sister in law) and instantly helped her feel loved and supported (she had also lost her brother, my husband). As I neared and passed my due date, induction became a hot topic. I was of advanced maternal age and with some of the stressors in my life I was feeling a bit of pressure to usher Matthew into this world. I had many a phone call with Brooke (who was to be on call for my labor) discussing pros and cons. She assured me she was on my team no matter what I chose to do. I ultimately chose to be induced and Brooke helped me anticipate what would happen at every step along the way. When my planned unmedicated labor became physically unbearable, Brooke compassionately supported me in my choice to receive both narcotics and an epidural. She even laid on the couch next to me to relieve my sister in law while I painlessly laborer and rested. Matthew was born perfect a few hours later and Brooke even captured photos of the bittersweet moment for me. All in all, I don't know how I would have survived my birth without Brooke. I could not have asked for a better resource, advocate, or friend in this process. I would not do birth without Brooke or Rebecca, for sure!

She also seemed to offer a broader range of services and expertise than most other doulas we'd found in our research. In the end, she turned out to be an even better "investment," than we'd anticipated. My physical birthing experience was a tough one--24 hours of labor that ended in an unavoidable c-section. But I really believe that because we worked with Brooke, my experience was one of empowerment and deep satisfaction (plus an incredible bonding experience with my husband) whereas it could have easily been scary and disappointing had we not had Brooke as our doula.

My sweet baby boy was born right in the middle of the pandemic when the number of support people that could be present in the birthing room was restricted to 1 person. Saralyn had to join us remotely but her presence was greatly felt, as the sound of her reassuring voice brought a lot of calm to the room. As first time parents, we had some anxiety about the labor process we deeply appreciate the time she took to answer ALL our questions and the coaching she so graciously provided every step of the way. Thanks to the gentle exercises she recommended, my baby was able to move to an optimal position for delivery by my due date. Saralyn is not only compassionate and attentive, she is also very knowledgable about medical procedures concerning pregnancy, labor, birth and breastfeeding. I highly recommend Saralyn to anybody seeking support before, during or after their delivery…read more I'm a bit embarrassed by it now but a few weeks before my delivery day I had thought my water had broke and although Saralyn was visiting family several hours drive from where I was she didn't hesitate to leave and head my direction in hopes of being present for the delivery. Although I was wrong and my water had not broke Saralyn was kind and understanding, ready to be of help at a minute's notice. When the day came that I had scheduled to be inducted she was there with me and my husband as we checked into the hospital. She was willing to stay on location but we persuaded her to go home and get rest as nothing was probably going to happen until tomorrow. However hours later when I realized I was in labor we called her and she quickly arrived at the hospital. I am so thankful for her presence as none of our family members were able to make it due to such a quick labor and delivery. She was a great support for my husband and I know it wouldn't have gone nearly as smoothly and wonderfully as it did had she not been there. She made great suggestions all along the way. She was a huge advocate when I wanted to understand what was going on and the doctors and the nurses were not being as clear as I needed them to be. Saralyn is someone that you can quickly feel comfortable with and at ease around. She gives you great resources to help make decisions and respects your choices. On top of everything she provided me with some amazing lactation cookies when we first arrived at the hospital. Little did I realize how much of a life savor they would be. They were healthy and tasty and just what I needed when a meal wasn't readily available. I can't say enough how much I respect and appreciate Saralyn.
