Let me start off by saying that when you have cancer it is never easy, but everyone here really tried to do their best to treat us with respect, care and professionalism. There is not much these people can do to change your circumstances but they do try to make their part as painless as possible. Dr. Mekhail's administrative assistant, Teri, is incredible. She keeps a thousand balls up in the air at once and never drops one of them. She comes to the phone when you call, she sets up all of your appointments for their office as well as for scans and blood work or any other testing done outside of their office. She has incredible follow through and she knows who you are when you call or come in. Thank You Teri. Dr. Mekhail's nurse and now part of the protocol research team is Tammy. During the first few appointments Tammy showed such kindness, patience, grace and offered us so much comfort that we will be eternally grateful. She was also full of information and little tips of how to deal with what was going to be happening. Thank You Tammy. In the chemo room a special thank you to Robert and Mel and there was one other woman, a black woman who I apologize - I don't know her name, who treated my friend with such tenderness and warmth AND expertise. You all made the rigors of chemo palatable. Thank you. There are times you will wait. They are incredibly busy. My friend grew impatient at the wait at times, understandably so, she was usually in pain, exhausted, nauseous and anxious. For me, sitting in the chair next to her, I understood the waits. So, There but for the grace of God go I, if I were diagnosed with cancer tomorrow would I go to the Cancer Institute of Florida? Yes, I would. Thank you all for your care during a difficult time.

Dr. Kalsi was very welcoming and friendly, she did a quick check of my recent surgerical area and gave me a breakdown of what was to be expected with my upcoming treatment as well. She knew it was a lot coming at me all at once so she would review it all patiently while I took it all in. I had bloodwork taken for my genetic testing and was provided my next appointment. Nurse Terri will also be the advocate, giving me any assistance I may require during it all. I felt confident that my treatment was in great hands.

I couldn't figure out what was wrong, I just decided to go forward with treatment at that time. I went in to see Dr. Sequerra and he immediately knew what was wrong, my brain was swelling, he sent me to the hospital for a MRI, and sure enough my cancer has spread to my brain. Review of Jose Sarriera, MD - Orlando Health Cancer Institute…read more I am extremely disappointed and disturbed by my experience with Jose Sarriera, MD. I want to specifically identify the physician involved because my concerns are about my personal interaction with Dr. Sarriera and should not reflect on other physicians or staff members who were not involved. I attended an oncology appointment with someone I love who is battling multiple myeloma. I came prepared with legitimate questions about her treatment, progress, and future care. Instead of having a respectful conversation, I experienced Dr. Sarriera as dismissive, condescending, antagonistic, and lacking the compassion that I believe should be fundamental when dealing with cancer patients and their families. While I was asking questions, Dr. Sarriera became visibly irritated, threw his hands up while speaking, and communicated with me in a manner I found extremely disrespectful. I specifically asked him not to speak to me that way. What happened next was even more concerning. During this interaction, he told the patient that she could essentially receive treatment somewhere else. In my opinion, that is an unacceptable thing to say to a cancer patient in the middle of a disagreement involving questions about her medical care. Patients and their loved ones should be able to ask questions without feeling that doing so could threaten their relationship with their treatment team. When I recognized that I was becoming angry with the way I was being treated, I made the decision to remove myself from the situation and leave the room. Rather than allowing me to simply walk away, Dr. Sarriera stood up, opened the door, and made a remark about helping me leave. I experienced his behavior as sarcastic and deliberately antagonistic at a moment when I was actively trying to de-escalate the situation. What disturbed me most was the overall attitude I experienced. I walked away feeling as though questioning him was viewed as a challenge to his authority rather than a normal part of advocating for someone you love. No physician's credentials or position should place them above treating patients and their families with basic dignity and respect. Medical knowledge is obviously essential in oncology, but so are compassion, patience, humility, communication, and professionalism. Cancer patients and their families are already dealing with fear, uncertainty, and tremendous emotional stress. They deserve an environment where they can ask difficult questions, seek clarification, and advocate for themselves without being belittled, antagonized, or made to feel unwelcome. I have formally reported this interaction to management because I believe what occurred deserves to be reviewed. This review represents my personal experience and observations during my interaction with Jose Sarriera, MD. Based on that experience, I cannot recommend him.

I switched to their East Orlando location once I stopped working downtown and it's been my favorite location because I've felt very well cared for by all of the doctors there over the years. Currently I'm seeing Dr. Nguyen, but I also really loved Dr. Chambers. Both are so caring and have a kind and gentle bedside manner. The location is easily accessible off of Lake Underhill. The only reason I give 4 stars is just the general wait times. They've made improvements and I don't think I've ever been to an OB that didn't have long wait times so I kind of expect it. I would recommend the practice, and even their downtown and Lake Nona locations which are much newer and larger.

My husband has been going to Dr. Molthrop for several years. Although he is not treating my…read morehusband, (i.e. no chemo) he is monitoring his platelet count, as my husband suffers from thrombocytopenia, which may have been a side effect of radiation treatments for a rare form of cancer, mycosis fungoides. . Dr. Molthrop is very thorough, very personable, and his office staff is very pleasant. Since my husband is not receiving chemo, we have had little contact with nurses, therefore, I can not really speak to what they are like. However, I do know that at every appointment, Dr. Molthrop always gives the patient a print out of their labs, which are done in house, on the spot. This is great for those of us who like to keep copies of our own records, as it eliminates the need to ask for one's records. Dr. Molthrop has a delightful personality, which is a big plus for those dealing with a disease as serious as cancer. Although he is thorough, he does not over-react. Part of being a good doctor is the wisdom to know when to treat and when to monitor. I highly recommend Dr. Molthrop.
