The main coach, Mike, pays attention to everyone while the lift, no matter the level athlete they are.

Tried them out with a new client 2 class pack special! My first visit was this weekend and I took…read morethe Starter50: Introduction to SolidCore class. It was a great experience! Checking in was easy, and for my first time, it was so helpful to get a quick overview of the equipment and get full explanations and demos of the sets of exercises we were going to tackle. It was nice knowing what to expect ahead, and a good rotation through core, legs/glutes, obliques, and upper body. Lots of first or second timers and this class and I felt supported/guided. Instructor was walking around giving feedback, and asked ahead of time on permission for light touch corrections. It was a great pilates/strength training type workout! Adaptable to different experience and fitness levels. I'm definitely still sore two days out. I think most of the workout could be replicated at home with weights, bands, and sliders, but it's very fun to use the fancy reformer machine and be guided through / not have to plan or program a really effective workout.

I've taken ~60 or so solidcore classes at this point in three different states at 5 different…read morestudios, so I've been able to experience a lot of variation in the classes offered. Overall solidcore is my favorite workout I've ever tried and I'm totally a super fan for life. Unfortunately this wasn't my favorite studio. Pros: 1. Instructor was phenomenal (I took class with Jane S) - she offered a lot of versatility in the class, offered plenty of modifications and amplifications, and clearly knew what she was doing. Gave shoutouts to individuals within the class which I always really like. Probably one of the best solidcore instructors I've taken class with 2. The class itself is awesome as mentioned above. I'm just totally obsessed with solidcore - can't recommend it enough for someone looking for a challenging but high-energy full body strength class. Cons: 1. The reformers at this studio needed a major facelift. They were rusty, the rubber covering the strings was falling off, and I think they have smaller platforms than the standard sweatlana (although that may have been my imagination). I'm not sure if they were just really old or maybe purchased from another studio secondhand or something but they were soooo bad compared to the quality that I'm used to at solidcore 2. No lockers in this studio (just bins) which is obviously a risk for theft, etc. not the end of the world but I feel like having lockers is a pretty baseline request All in all, I don't live in Michigan full time so I likely won't be back anyway, but if I did live in the area I'd return as I just absolutely love the workout. Studio just needs some TLC

After playing a collegiate sport as an undergrad, I looked for 4+ years in Ann Arbor for a gym that…read morewould push me to get in better shape. I joined various gyms (i.e., boxing, spinning, yoga, kettlebell, and barre gyms) and running clubs hoping to find a place that would help me achieve this. Nothing seemed to fit....the workouts almost always started great but were so repetitive/impersonal that I eventually got bored and left. Anyways, I decided to drop-in to a free class at Joust and instantly loved this place. The trainers are kind, friendly, and know their stuff. They look at each person in a group workout individually - scaling the workout if necessary and pushing you so that you are almost always sore but never done so at the expense of form. Further, the fellow gym members at Joust are phenomenal, smart, people at all different fitness levels who are beyond supportive. As a woman who is almost always trying to lose 'just more 5 lbs,' it was so nice joining a place where my focus was completely redirected to learning new skills and getting stronger. I have only been a member for 6 months and am bummed that I am moving states (i.e., leaving Joust), but if you are thinking about joining, I can't recommend this place enough!

Even at 6 am, this is a great place to work out. They have a different workout every day so I don't…read moreget bored. They challenge me to do just a bit more and do it better, but not so much that safety is compromised. They show us how to do the lifts every time. Some gyms just assume you know how to do it. Joust reviews the technique every time, and then coaches go around the room helping us do it better. The atmosphere is friendly and fun, and there are people of all ages, genders and fitness levels. Some are absolute Amazons, and some are lifting for the first time ever. If you need to shower before work, they have showers. I have enjoyed Crossfit gyms in several different cities from Maine to California. They are all fun. In some of them, you just jump on boxes, flap your arms some, and lift weights and everyone is friendly but no one pushes you to do better. This one will help you improve your fitness level without going so far as to make you throw up or fall off the equppment.
