We found it by chance as we…read morewere doing the scenic driving tour that the park ranger recommended (there is an audio that you can play doing this drive on the NPS app). It's marked as moderate to strenuous. We walked up the right side of the trail to see the huge rock formations, but looks like this trail is made for climbers! We saw all sorts of chalk marks and hooks. We also did explore the left side of the trail. There is a staircase made of big rocks, and then, there was a rope to climb, but it had been raining and we were with our kids and didn't really have proper gear, so we climb up it. According to the reviews on the All Trails app, there is a view? Pro tip: Download the NPS parks app and tap on the New River Gorge Park page and tap on Fayetteville area hikes. This trail is marked just Bridge Trail, despite the trailhead marker sign. Lots of info on parks in general! And you'll also find the audio of the driving tour that we did. It took about half an hour to get our harnesses on and get shuttled to the bridge walk site. We spent about an hour walking the bridge one way and the shuttle picked us up at the opposite end. Our guide was Pete and he was full of bridge knowledge. He snapped a photo for us too. Most importantly, I also felt safe the entire time. The tour runs rain or shine. No refunds. We got lucky and it was clear skies (a little windy) for our 9:30am tour, but the 11am definitely got a bit wet later that day. Definitely a check off the bucket list while you're at New River Gorge NP!

This is a must-see for the area. There are many sights to…read moresee in the New Gorge National Park like the Sandstone Falls, overlook, the New Gorge Bridge, and others. This is definitely one of the sites that you should see if you are visiting this area. It is not just one site, the Fayette Station bridge, it is an entire drive with some great spots and pullouts along the way. This drive starts on the north side of the bridge behind the visitor's center on the road to the right (the one that goes downhill). It is a well-paved road that has 2 switchbacks and a pullout or two on the north side and then you are down by the river and driving across the bridge. There is a place to stop by the bridge for those that want to walk across it. There is a park on the south side a little bit down from the bridge. The south side road taking you back up to the main road also has some very nice views along the way. This is a wonderful drive that is well worth the time and effort. I highly recommend this drive and site to any of my fellow travelers in the area.

The view was absolutely breathtaking and gave us plenty of time to stretch and take the sites of the West Virginia mountains. Well, not overly large. This was a moderate 3.2-mile out-and-back to the lookout point with views of the bridge…read more There is a slow descent in the beginning, followed by a slightly steeper descent in the middle, then an ascent up to the lookout point. I included a photo of the elevation during the hike. There are a number of parking spots at the trailhead (maybe 25 or so). During a weekday morning, there were only about 7-10 cars there. This is one of the two "must do" hikes in the New River Gorge National Park, and I'm glad we had the experience.
