I included a photo of the elevation during the hike. There are a number of parking spots at the trailhead (maybe 25 or so). During a weekday morning, there were only about 7-10 cars there. This is one of the two "must do" hikes in the New River Gorge National Park, and I'm glad we had the experience.

It took about half an hour to get our harnesses on and get shuttled to the bridge walk site. We spent about an hour walking the bridge one way and the shuttle picked us up at the opposite end. Our guide was Pete and he was full of bridge knowledge. He snapped a photo for us too. Most importantly, I also felt safe the entire time. The tour runs rain or shine. No refunds. We got lucky and it was clear skies (a little windy) for our 9:30am tour, but the 11am definitely got a bit wet later that day. Definitely a check off the bucket list while you're at New River Gorge NP!

We took a family vacay to New River Gorge National Park in August and we love chasing waterfalls,…read moreso we went looking for Butcher Branch Falls located on the Butcher Branch trail. When you go to the visitor center, NPS has a list of all the waterfalls in and around the area. To access these falls, you have to start from the Kaymoor Top trailhead to get to the Butcher Branch trail. - Parking - There is ample parking, 2 lots next to each other. Trail details: According to the All Trails app, the trail is about 1.3 miles out and back. The trail is well shaded and lots of trees. I suggest bug spray however. There are quite a few switchbacks. There are some spots where it will split into the Butcher Branch Trail and the climbing access. There is also an orange board to carry anyone out, but hopefully you or any of your people will not need to use that, but remember where it is, just in case. It had been raining off and on during our stay in the area, so the falls were flowing nicely. Great exercise and just a good time and reconnecting with Mother Nature. Tip: Download the NPS app and there are clear instructions on how to get there. Get outside and enjoy (and stay safe)!

It was fun reminiscing and sharing with them the way things used to be and the ways it looked! It's hard to believe it now so sad how changes with time makes so much of a difference. Deacon enjoyed his adventure. We found out the tram ride over the mountain has been broken 3 yrs and the state has not fixed it. Also found out might not get fixed for another couple years also...which is extremely sad news! Also, there is NO nature exhibit or museum display at Hawk's Nest Park. There is a power boat ride on the river that starts late May but is rather expensive about $30 per person so if your a family of 4 (average size) it's over $120 for about an hour before taxes.. Now a days, that's a little much in my personal opinion! But, if you got it..spend it ! Right!! ? Me, not so much! There is a restaurant and a small gift shop fairly priced..we purchased a few necessaries!! Definitely recommend to all in the area°

Loading and unloading were very organized, and Gary, our bus driver, was absolutely great. We were pleasantly surprised to find they had a little snack-style breakfast available before we loaded, although we didn't know about it until right before we left. Lunch was probably the biggest disappointment, mostly because we didn't stop until we were almost finished with the trip. We also weren't sure when we would be stopping, so we didn't have water with us for quite a while... we were definitely the last rafting company to stop for lunch, the moral was getting low. Even our guide mentioned something about not knowing when we would stop. Our guide seemed fairly new, but the river wasn't overly intense, and we never felt truly unsafe. There were a couple of moments that made us a little nervous, but overall the rafting itself was SO much fun. One thing that definitely affected the experience was some of the other guests. Unfortunately, you can't control people's manners, and there were a few who were pretty rude and inconsiderate, especially at lunch. It was supposed to be ladies first, but we watched people cut the line and take huge amounts of food for themselves and their husbands. It was honestly pretty frustrating to watch and took a little of the fun out of that part of the day. That said, we had a blast and would absolutely recommend giving it a try! The staff was kind, the organization was good, and being out on the river was an awesome experience. A few small improvements with communication around food, water, and lunch would make an already great day even better.

It's marked as moderate to strenuous. We walked up the right side of the trail to see the huge rock formations, but looks like this trail is made for climbers! We saw all sorts of chalk marks and hooks. We also did explore the left side of the trail. There is a staircase made of big rocks, and then, there was a rope to climb, but it had been raining and we were with our kids and didn't really have proper gear, so we climb up it. According to the reviews on the All Trails app, there is a view? Pro tip: Download the NPS parks app and tap on the New River Gorge Park page and tap on Fayetteville area hikes. This trail is marked just Bridge Trail, despite the trailhead marker sign. Lots of info on parks in general! And you'll also find the audio of the driving tour that we did.
