I was picking up an uber eats order. I stood in line behind another customer who was ordering, the woman taking his order offered him a free sample and also offered one to me. I had a zyn in my lip and didn't want to spit it out so I respectfully declined. The look on the woman's face expressed subtle offense and then I started to think in a very generalized way that whatever culture she came from, what I did is likely considered disrespectful. I thought "I'm thinking too deep about this".
It's my turn in line and I tell her I'm here for an delivery, she rolls her eyes and points to the cashier (truthfully I should have probably known this) but the way she communicated with me I could tell I had offended her by declining the sample.
I'm waiting to speak to the cashier, trying not to spiral about the subtle energies of the situation when I hear her offering " free sample, free sample" again. In a split second I think "yes I have been blessed with a second chance to right this mistake" I immediately accept a piece of orange chicken and put it in my mouth.
To my utter shock it is pipping hot and burns my tongue and the roof of my mouth, when I pull it back out the steam flows out of my mouth alerting my eyes of the true heat of this chicken. I look over at the woman and she is looking down at the food bar trying her absolute best to hide her satisfaction and laughter.
I start doing math in my head, the cause and effect of it all had me swirling. The cashier greets me and then the oil from the sample drips on my knuckle and I spazzed in the middle of the line because it literally felt like I had been stung by a bee, I adjust my grip so it drips away from me. Grab my delivery and leave.
All this said, I think the woman who gave me the sample should be promoted to the highest position that the organization has out of sheer respect of her quick wit and moxie. At the very least give her a raise.
Did I deserve it? Maybe. Am I mad? Not at all. I can't stop laughing about it.
Idk how the food is though, I don't eat Chinese. But I love little old Asian ladies with a sense of humor. 5 stars. read more
