Then again, you can book guided tours of Highgate Cemetery in London, so maybe I am merely adding to the canon of literature regarding "dark tourism"? Whatever. Whilst Highgate has loads of famous dead dudes, Rowley Regis Cemetery is where the children's author Allan Ahlberg used to work as a grave digger. He is still very much alive and has written some nice things about his days in the Black Country. The cemetery is located on a gentle slope down from Rowley Regis towards Old Hill. It is quite spread out and very neatly tended. A small flower stall is set up at the main gates most weekends. Parking is a bit of a pain, with most people choosing to park on Moor Lane. I find it really odd that it so close to Rowley Regis Hospital, the view must really bum some of the patients out.

This cemetery has provided me with some much needed moments of solitude and reflection over the…read moreyears. It the main it is a very quiet place as lots of the graves are extremely old. It is a large site and you can easily pass an hour wandering around. I don't find it morbid spending time in graveyards, for some reason I find it very peaceful. I have personal connections to the space and like to visit from time to time to remember lost loved ones. However, a visit doesn't have to have this purpose to be enjoyable.

It's a beautiful setting, and of course very peaceful as you would expect! There's an array of interesting head stones if you're into that kind of thing but otherwise it is a stunning capsule of serenity all in its own right; with gnarly old trees and other flora to enjoy. The changing seasons mean this is a great place to visit throughout the year.

It's a trip down memory lane as I learnt to drive (again - passed my test when I was 17, then didn't drive again for over 10 years..) here. Well, re-acquainted myself with driving, then, shall we say. Which kind of gives you an idea as to the size of this place - it's massive. There's plenty of space for pathways and driveways. With a 5 mph speed limit, I hasten to add. It's divided into a number of plots, and there are acres and acres of grass. It's a lovely place though. I know its full of dead people, but it's like acres of quiet parkland, with plots of ornamental gravestones and flowers here and there. I think I'd quite like to be buried here - it's really peaceful and ordered.

As well as the actual wall of remembrance there is 152 acres of land segregated into areas for each service & then into garden areas for specific arms & units. There's a land train, buggy tours, and walking tours that are a small charge. We went on a buggy tour as we were recommended one, and the lady who took us was extremely knowledgeable. There are some lovely sculptures and monuments, a clever one being the naval one, where, when the sun shines through at eleven on Remembrance Day, you see an image of a destroyer on the ground. There's a small parking charge of three pounds which goes straight to their charity (the charity number is even listed on the parking signs), and lasts all day. We didn't eat there, but the cafe smelled lovely (the back end of the restaurant smelled a bit like sprouts, but you can't win everything). It's well thought out, with even the chairs cut into tree silhouettes. Seeing the freshly carved names is probably what hits most.

Meeting with what ever request we had including adding a message onto their media page and arranging a live web viewing for those unable to attend. On the day of the funeral Matthew was very calming and put myself and the family at ease, he had time to talk and listen. He was very professional in everything he did and was one step ahead, if there was any problems we certainly didnt know. He ensured my family were the most important people by talking/guiding us through the day every step, walking us in and seating us and the respect shown to my dad was outstanding. Communication has been excellent all the way along, listening to me talk about dad and his life, almost like they were part of our family, understanding our pain. The décor is very modern although from the out side you really would not think so. Although this hotel/restaurant is not in the city centre it is only just on the outside so it's easy to get to. I only eat here because I had a friend staying in the hotel. The food and drinks were quite expensive but hotel prices tend to be. If I was looking to stay in a hotel then I would like to stay here, it seems clean and professional and the prices don't seem to be to expensive
