We really enjoyed touring the Witte Museum while in San Antonio. Enjoyed learning about Texas culture and history. Wildlife and natural history are different than in California and we loved learning about it. Truly a wild frontier. Hey, Don't Mess with Texas! The grounds are beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. Our grandchildren weren't with us, but they would have enjoyed the children's area and the dinosaur exhibits. We took the tour bus that drops you off at desired locations. Great experience with them too!

If I'm not mistaken from 3 to 6 in the afternoon, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Witte museum has a free entry for all ages ! I came here a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and decided to do a another visit with a good friend of mine I love how spacious this museum is, especially the detail from everything including the floor ground that usually matches with the scenery ! The reason I gave this museum a 10 out of a 10 is not only because of the details but because of the interaction that you can get with the museum ! GreT amount of staff there to inform you on any additional information or questions that you have , always so friendly and never gives the impression it's just their job thank you ALL

This place is so much fun, the Cafe is worth going here too. The vanilla iced latte is delish and the ice cream is awesome on these hot days The staff is wonderful and the exhibits are so much fun. But my favorite part are the gardens outside You guys have got to see this place

Over the years the Witte Museum has truly grown and become the most beautiful natural history museum that San Antonio has to offer. There are so many hands on exploration exhibits and videos both for children and adults it's impossible to get bored here. The layout is very organized and open which makes it easy to get around crowds and enjoy the sights at your own pace.

For the last six months we visited this museum twice! Very nice, informative, neat and interesting place. They offer interesting exhibits and have outdoor yard, alive creatures and coffee/snack shop,

Always a good time at San Antonio's best natural history museum equivalent. Despite my kids protests, I think they enjoy coming to this place. They are very much entertained. They like the exhibits and their interactivity. We try to take advantage of the free museum days on Tuesday from (3pm - 6pm). This visit we also paid for the special Shark exhibition but which allowed guests to learn via touch, videos, and audio recordings. It's a good time, and Bexarliner County residents day is a good discount to take advantage of.

Our first time at the Witte and what a great time it was. There is just so much to this place - between the collections and the seasonal exhibitions, there's so much to see as our visit lasted two hours. We opted to try both exhibitions, Sharks and Surviving Space, in addition to seeing the permanent collections/exhibits. Ourselves and our little one enjoyed them all. The space exhibition as you would expect is STEM-focused with plenty of interactive displays and items to show the day-to-day of what is is to be an astronauts and the docents are there to help with plenty of useful stories and tidbits as well. The Sharks exhibition was our favorite. Didn't really know how a shark exhibit would do at a place that isn't an aquarium, but the Witte did a great job here. Plenty of massive models of multiple types of shark, both prehistoric and current as well as with many engaging, educational displays on the lifecycle of sharks and all the threats facing them. Kudos to the museum for even taking time to show videos of shark finning and how despicable that practice is. We also perused other areas of the permanent collection and I really enjoyed their fossil collections especially their massive marine fossils displayed prominently at the front of the museum. But, we found that this place just kept going! The grounds are beautiful and massive, so much you really can't enjoy it in one sitting. That won't be a problem, we will be back. I would say the Witte is a must do on any visit to San Antonio.

TUES-DAZE. We went on a group outing with about 12 kids on a TUESDAY during their free admission hours between the hours of 3-6pm. PACKED is an understatement because boy oh boy, the line to get in was present. A parking garage is available and it is probably easier to access on other days and hours. They have different exhibits YEAR round and although there is an additional fee, it's minimal -- I was quoted $6 for the shark exhibit that's currently being held. The museum itself is LOVELY. There were plenty of people present with their little ones, but this might be a better suited museum for parents with kiddos ages 4+. My toddlers enjoyed seeing and naming the animals, scooping our dirt to reveal fossils in the Dino den, and the play area. I would ABSOLUTELY pay to see the exhibits at the Witte Museum once they are a little older and can be engaged for longer periods of time.

The Witte museum was such a treat! Although it's more of a family/kids museum, my husband and I really enjoyed it! Btw, every tuesday they offer free entrance to all Bexar county residents! So awesome! Very grateful for that! The museum is a beautiful 2 story building and I absolutely love the outside area! It's lush and peaceful to just sit and enjoy or walk around. My favorite and highlight of my museum visit is a temporary exhibit of Al Rendon, a local Texan photographer that captured/photographed many icons including one of my all time favorite artists, Selena Quintanilla. It was such a wonderful and emotional surprise! It's titled "Mi cultura" and I just learned that the exhibit has been extended until May 2024. So go check it out! Overall such a great experience at the Witte museum! Highly recommend!

The Witte Museum is worth a visit if you're in the area and looking to learn. It has quite the varied space, with multiple buildings and styles of exhibits. There are spaces specifically for kids, and places that both kids and adults will enjoy. As you enter, you are greeted and immediately drawn in by the prehistoric exhibit and the dinosaurs. There is nice section of the history of the San Antonio area, a temporary exhibit space, and a large area of exhibits about Texas flora and fauna. Many of the spaces are interactive, as well, to help engage everyone. Outside, there is a nice courtyard and lawn area right next to the river as well.

Look up when you walk in... so cool!

Not a great place for younger kids. Not much here appealed to my 3yo and a lot of the interactive stuff was broken or too big for him to use

After checking in we stopped at the bar for a little drink to accommodate our interactive gallery. We went with the seasonal adult capri sun and the year round capri sun. The bartender was very friendly and made delicious drinks. Upon arrival I was a little nervous about the experience as some have noted that there aren't many rooms to explore and that it didn't take long for them to go through the gallery. After we finished we can say with confidence that it's worth it. We spend about 55min- 1 hour within the gallery. My favorite was the secret room where you pick up phones and listen to anonymous secrets from other people. That one was pretty unique. I also liked the room with all the changing lights--it looked really cool and was fun to walk through. There's also an area filled with balls that reminded me a bit of Chuck E. Cheese, and another section that's basically a maze made out of clear plexiglass panels. When you first walk in there's a bar, and they also have a gift shop. The bar was really backed up as a think there was only one bartender but she was very friendly. The entry process was easy since I bought my tickets online. Overall, if you go by yourself you could probably get through everything in about 35-40 minutes. It was a fun outing with a group, but personally I'd probably save my money and try something else next time.

A sculpture garden surrounds the museum so there's plenty of areas to stroll and take photos. This museum resides in a gorgeous 1920s Spanish colonial revival residence built by Marion McNay. The building itself is art with its wood detailing, arches, and intricate tile ceilings and floors. The actual art collection consisted of over 20,000 items, but only some are displayed and occasionally on rotation. The collection embodied European and American art of the nineteenth century, twentieth, and twenty first centuries. Sooo much to see- paintings, special exhibits, vase collection, Angelica Raquel Mystic Threads, sculptures, and a lovely garden/pond/fountain containing koi. The museum has a gift shop, restrooms, and a special collection of art displayed by many artistic school children. My new found artist I discovered here was Carl Rice Embery. A pure Texan, his art was amazing ! Initially I thought the pieces were photographs, but up close they are actual paintings. That's how realistic they are. Simple Texan scenery. We had a great time and would definitely come back!

There is a nice mix of what is on display, from an excellent collection of spurs, paintings, and artifacts. My favorites were the paintings. Most museums have very old famous painting, but the Briscoe has a large number of paintings which have been painted recently. Now don't get me wrong, Blue Boy at the Huntington is an amazing painting but the paintings at the Briscoe were so vivid and captivating. I wish I could have purchased at least a dozen of them. The colors were bright, which made me wonder if this is what it would have been like looking at a Van Gouh a year after it was painted? Even though there were contemporary painting, the subject matter was distinctly western capturing a style unlike anything I have seen before. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. For instance, we asked what's the best way to go through the museum. Start one the 3rd floor and work your way down. We highly recommend making a day of it. Thinking ahead here, when it will get stupid hot later in the summer time, great way to take the kids to burn their energy and not get stir house crazy being inside all day - great way to break up the day from all the screaming and jumping around. The exhibits: wow, SO much variety! It's basically 2 stories, downstairs is the main floor area, and options! When you first enter, there's giant toy puzzles shaped as gears, then another room that takes you to a full on pretend city arena where there's little tykes cars for these kids to drive around in this pretend city, a HEB store front, airplane simulation, trolley, car wash, vet office, etc. so fun for these kids! Then another room where there's instruments like a giant piano and other fun things for kids to explore. Outside, there are 2 areas, one is a bubble play area to explore ways to play with bubbles in SO many different ways. Another outside area, playground with a giant slide, water play area with boats and things that you can imagine with water. For over stimulated kiddos, there's a room downstairs that's called a "calming room" where it's much quieter than out in the open if you need time to decompress from the chaos. Upstairs, there's a pretend to play with tools and right next to it and where you can assemble flowers. Now food wise, there's a Café Bakery Lorraine downstairs which include their macaroons, sandwiches, snack platter, crossiants, etc. It's a little pricey, but at least it's good! You are allowed to bring snacks, water inside, but not outside food like actual meals. Parking: it's free and first come first served out in the front area.
