This is the only structure still standing that has a direct tie to the witch trials BUT there wasn't much to it. There were some artifacts throughout the small house, but honestly I got more from the House of the Seven Gables tour. The woman at the front taking the money didn't offer any information, we had to figure it out on our own. The Witch House is self-guided, you move at your own pace. There are pros and cons to that. The pro is that you can move at your own pace, take as many photos as you'd like. The cons is that there isn't really anyone to ask questions of. The displays were of random parts of life from the period, as well as some random witch explanations. There was one docent throughout the entire place and she was engaged in conversation with one person. The space is extremely small, so maneuvering around can be difficult. In my opinion, the cost just doesn't match the "attraction". read more

This doesn't offer tons of information about the trials but does have some. I'd make sure I saw other things first.

This house was right down the street from our hotel. Naturally this was the first place we went. The entrance is in the rear. You have to go through the gift shop first and that is where you pay for entrance. When looking at this house just from the outside you can tell it's old and has a lot of history. It is actually Salem's only home with direct ties to the witch trials of 1692. Most of the furniture inside is also authentic and very fragile. This house belonged to Jonathan Corwin and his family. They purchased it in 1675. In 1692 Corwin was called upon as the local magistrate to investigate the witchcraft claims. I highly recommend adding this house to your must see list when planning your trip. read more

Not as cool as I wanted it to be. Literally 3 small rooms downstairs and 1 room upstairs. While it's cool to see some stuff they don't have much to actually see. The presentation isn't stellar either. Am I mad I paid $9.00 to see it? Nah, would I do it if I knew what it was all about ahead of time or would I recommend it? Nope. You can see everything the museum has to offer just from the yelp photos alone. Should you support small local businesses sure but they need to have something of substance to offer. All the details they have printed up for you to read, you have already heard on various documentaries. read more

Cool place to visit in Salem! We came to visit this cute little town in October, just a few weeks before Halloween. The Witch House is the former home of a man involved in with the Salem Witch Trails. Although it's called the Witch House it's more about how people lived in Salem during this time, than the trails themselves. It was cool to see how the people lived and some of the crazy things they used as medicine during this period. The woman working behind the register was named Elizabeth and she was so helpful! She gave us suggestions of things to do on our short visit to Salem (the Witch House was our first stop) as well as directions! She really knows this charming town and gave us great ideas for a fun filled day! Thank you again Elizabeth! read more

Very very cool, historical place to go. Make sure you buy your tickets online ahead of time. It has some antique furniture and scrolls with information on them. It's a one time stop, but definitely cool! read more

This is a must stop if you're in Salem! It's reasonably priced... and there are people on site with more insight... ASK THEM QUESTIONS!!!! There is so much to learn beyond what you'll see and read here! The self guided tour has great information into the era and the witch hunt. It's the only house left in Salem directly connected to the 1692 trials. The artifacts are fascinating and the story telling worth reading. And... they let you take pictures!!!!! read more

Visited the Witch House with my family in December 2018, and we all found the place to be a tourist trap. The cost to get in with my family was $25. The house is a small two story house with a couple of rooms. The rooms have items, furniture, and decor from the 17th Century. Really didn't see anything of interest. We were in and out in 20 minutes. My suggestion is to take pictures in front of the house and with the sign, skip the tourist trap entrance fee. read more

There are a lot witch places for tourists here but this is the only that has real history behind it. Although the Witch House isn't particularly fascinating it is still probably one of the few places worth visiting. The house and things inside are all from the witch era. The house isn't very large so you don't need to spend too much time here. There is information posted for you to read about the items inside and about the strangeness of the time. They also have very helpful and knowledgeable employees in each room if you have questions about any particular item. I found the carved protection symbols most interesting. read more

The Witch House is the only remaining witch trial-era building in Salem (for those not in the know, the actual hysteria took place a couple of miles away in what's now Danvers, which is why you won't find much stuff in the actual town of Salem itself). This was the home of Jonathan Corwin, who sat on the trial jury, and so it reflects the lifestyle of an upper-class colonial Massachusetts family. The museum is much more dedicated to a depiction of life in colonial America, so if you're looking for witchy stuff, you won't really find it here, despite the name. If you ARE looking for something a tad more historical than everything else in Salem you'll find it here. Puritans were a weird bunch. Super conservative but actually relatively sexually liberal, obsessed with money, and also apparently obsessed with pumpkins (one wonders what they'd think of today's pumpkin spice latte hysteria). This definitely provides a good overview of daily Puritan life in all its struggles and complexities. You progress from the front room of the house, where Corwin probably did some of his work, into the internal rooms of the house which provide a better picture of what family life was like in the era. Evidently the Corwins had it pretty good, comparatively, and I have to say that if I had to live back then, this is the kind of house I'd want to live in. It's probably about a 30-40 minute visit in all, and a good way to get some history in while you're visiting wax museums and psychic shops. Plus a cute shop in the front with some actually interesting things to look at/buy. read more

Very interesting place to see. Exactly how I imagined the houses to look back in the Salem witch days. Dark and creepy. This is the only building left that relates to the actual Salem Witch Trails. A judge named Jonathan Corwin lived here during this time. Cannot imagine seeing "witches" being hung in this city. Crazy how time was before. read more

very interesting to see and walk through, but to prevent confusion: it has nothing to do with Hocus Pocus. It's pretty small, so you won't need a lot of time to spend inside but there are staff available and willing to answer any questions you may have. We were there in September (9/2/18), so it was not as crowded as I think it would have been in October. read more

We had a wonderful historic lesson. I know people have expectations but this is a museum piece of history that was from a simple time. They would have had modest furnishings and simple utensils. The furnishings may not be from the original owner but at least they try to fill your experience with what would have been there. The furniture is from the era and I felt they did a fabulous job re-creating what we can only imagine. read more

I enjoyed this house very much. It was the home of Judge John Corwin who stayed close to the witch trials because of the lose of one of his children that may have been caused by one of the girls originally in trial. It's a small self-guided tour that brings you back to 1692 from the perspective of a family. The workers were very friendly and knowledgeable. Again, this is not a long tour but it's very cool. read more

This was a great way to learn more about how life was in the 1600s and see it up close in person. I loved all the descriptions next to each item but I think it would of been nice if this was a guided tour with small groups. This place can get quite packed and you have to wait for people to finish reading each thing. All and all my group did enjoy this experience though. We got lucky and didn't have to wait in a huge line outside either! read more

This was a cool experience. It was interesting seeing what the house looked like and reading some about the history. However...it was very dark and a lot of the papers to read were low to the ground. They need to keep things up higher, especially for those who cannot bend all the way to the ground.... Also this is not a place for kids. It's a small house and having kids all over the place and touching everything that shouldn't be touched was annoying. It was $8.25 to get in and I'd say it's worth about $5. Either way, I would recommend going. I enjoyed it. read more

This place was fascinating. I loved reading all the factual historical information and exploring the rooms and antique furniture. After reading all the weird methods people of that historical era utilized to treat medical ailments, I realized the folklore of witches was based in strange, weird but true facts of how regular folk lived in that time. Like, did you know that people in that era of time used to dig up bodies of dead people and make tonics from dead bodies to treat medical ailments? That's bonkers! And get this... they drank human blood and snake and toad blood for the curing of medical ailments, too. This was common practice in the Salem community by regular people. Yet, over the years crazy stories of witches were created that incorporated these real archaic practices of real people in that space of time. Weird but fascinating how history can be twisted and incorporated into a fantasy people -- even now -- believe. And I thought the people in 2022 were strange in America. lol. This place takes the blue ribbon in weird historical people. This place is worth a visit if you're in Salem, MA. read more

This was a great spot to check out in Salem. This was the home of Jonathan Corwin who was a judge in the Salem witch trials. I was hoping to get a guided tour but they did not offer one. The $8 admission seemed reasonable, and this is less than a 10 minute walk from a lot of the other attractions. I parked at a paid (inexpensive) garage near the Salem Visitor's Center and walked from there. The entrance has a sign for the gift shop entrance-- I wasn't quite sure if I could enter, but took a chance and voila. The gift shop is mighty small. I asked the docents if they knew where I could look up whether my ancestors (whose names I had) who lived in Salem at the time played any role in the witch trials. Their researcher went into his records and came back to tell me that one of them had been a juror and/or a signer of the petition attesting John and Elizabeth Proctor's innocence. The house itself has many interesting objects and posters on the wall, etc. displaying some of the objects that aroused suspicion, some of the text of the trials, etc. read more

Small but if you stop to read all the information provided on the items, you can spend a good 45 min in there. If you have small kids just watch them close so that they don't touch anything. If that's the case you will be out of ther in 15-20 min tops. Well kept home that does transport you back to the 1600s. This was a huge estate home back then, and very cool items inside. read more

An actual historical location related to the Salem Witch Trials and not just an unrelated museum of still mannequins describing the history. It was Judge Jonathan Corwin's house. I did a self pace walk through and though it felt short I enjoyed it. The employees were very knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to answer questions. It was nice to chat with a few history enthusiasts about other historic landmarks I have visited as the military has moved me around a bit. Definitely a place to go if you appreciate history and are doing the Salem touristy gig. *note that it is not stroller friendly, but is totally understandable read more

Interesting place to go to when you're at Salem. I found it fascinating that they were able to preserve a lot of artifacts way back in the days where the witch phenomena were a thing in the past. It's not big but if one would take his/her time reading the description or history of the things they've presented there, or at least ask the tour guide about these, then you would find this place extra interesting. The pictures I've posted here are perfect examples :-) read more

The witch house was okay. I was a bit let down, mainly because by the name you'd think they would have more about the witches. but not the case, this is in fact the house of Corwin, one of the men who sought out to find the accused people who were witches. i guess it was interesting to see the lifestyle of the clown who was responsible for jailing and accusing the people of being witches. there were facts about how they lived, and the family themselves. the house itself seems like its not that well kept, i think it can be fixed up a little since things seem to go left alone. however, the house is beautiful from the outside. Theres low staff right now so you will have to do a self guided tour---theres a woman downstairs that can answer some questions. read more

Get the guided tour and you won't be disappointed! Our group was lucky enough to have a real history buff who wrote his thesis on Salem Witch Trials as our tour guide. We were in the house for an hour, so we spent about 15 minutes in each room, starting with the dining room, then bedroom, then other bedroom, and finally the living room. It was great to experience a place like this because the rest of Salem can be pretty touristy and "witchy." Our tour guide helped us ponder different theories behind the Salem Witch Trials, as well as shared historical information I had never heard before. Everything was really interesting, and I definitely learned a lot. I was also able to purchase a cool black cat ornament, yay! I don't understand the bad reviews here. I thought the price was a teeny bit expensive, but the house is small, so not many people can walk through at a time, and this place is an original! read more

Maybe I am just a history buff and love all things history, but I found it really interesting. It's the oldest building in Salem and it is not necessarily a "Witch" house, it just looks witchy, and the inside is a giant history book. The inside is set up as it would have looked in the 1800s during the witch trials, and in addition, it is informative on forms of punishment and the justice system, not just showing you how the place would have looked if people were living there, the only that is required of you is to take your time and read the information. It is unique and authentic. Also, don't get confused, but the entrance is in the back, it looks closed, but it's not, just reach for the door. read more

My husband had never been to Salem before, so when we were in Massachusetts, we drove to Marblehead to have lunch and then to Salem to look around. We weren't sure what there was to do in Salem, so we just drove around the town. We happened to pass the Witch House and decided to go in. This is exactly the type of attraction you would hope to find in Salem. It has historical value and is somewhat related to the famous Witch Trials. We paid $8.25 per adult and got a $1 discount for having a AAA membership. The house has two floors with a lot of period furniture from the 1600s. It was very interesting to see and to read about the Corwin family. Unfortunately, the houses in those days were rather small, so it doesn't take too long to look around and see everything. We enjoyed it and are glad we went there, but wouldn't make a trip specifically to Salem just for this. If you're in Salem looking for some history, then this is worth checking out. read more

The Witch House is the only surviving structure from someone involved in the trials. It was interesting. Very neat older windows.

We just went here over the weekend. Out of all of the "witch" stuff in Salem, this seemed the most real and interesting. It's not really a lot about witches. I think that's important to keep in mind. It's more about the history of the people who lived there and the house and the time period. Still interesting, but not a lot of "witchy" things for those who would be interested. It's a cool house and some great info. Very small though and it only took about 30 min to complete. Might not be worth it for some. Self-guided so a bunch of things to see and read. Not good for kids, probably. read more

Self guided tour of the last original house from the time of the witch trials in 1600s! The old history and it being a staple of Salem and the witch trials makes this a must :) It is the home of one of the judges on the trial. It is 2 stories and has about 4 rooms but it a good hour or so tour with a small gift shop at front. It's amazing just how long it survived and the history is has seen! It's on a corner and has a sign saying witch house but parking is nightmarish so if you don't see street parking go down the road there was a parking lot with meters. Close to other shops and sights of Salem by foot too. Would be five stars if there was a bit more to look at and better lighting inside, it was a bit dark. read more
