Decided to stop in and check this place out while we were in Salem. We did the self-guided tour and enjoyed seeing some artifacts from the house and time period. The staff is really knowledgeable and was willing to answer any question you had. A piece of advice, if you have mobility issues, this may not be the stop for you as there are steep stairs that you have to go up and down if you want to see the whole house. The only problem I have with this place is that I think the price of admission is a little more than it should be for what you are getting as far as how much there is to see. Other than that, this is a cool historical site! read more

I really enjoyed the tour of this historical home. It had great information and displays. The history behind this home is absolutely amazing. It is really a must stop in Salem. read more

A cute medieval type home especially on the inside with the window, dining table and chair designs. It's a self guided tour with photos and videos allowed. No flash please. You can see the house's age on the inside with the old flooring and narrow staircase. It's a beautiful house that's been well maintened. read more

Recommend this spot for the reason that provides true historical info vs the hokey & glitchy stuff that rest of the venues seem to offer. And u can get a combo pass for the pioneer village so it's a great deal. read more

This isn't about the Witch Trials themselves but is a wonderful exhibit of life during late 1600s America, which is vital to understanding much about the Trials. There were very interesting artifacts and signs explaining everything in the home. However the home is very inaccessible in ways that could be helped; obviously if stairs are an issue then this stop isn't for you, but there are other things that proved to be difficult that management should be able to accommodate - for example, there was poor lighting, so anyone with bad vision may have to skip over some signs simply because they're hard to read. Also some of the information was low to the ground so anyone unable to bend down won't be able to get to those. Takes about thirty minutes. Good for people that are into reading and self-research, not as much good for anyone activity based. read more

Unfortunately can't purchase tickets at all. Website they use might be down or not working properly. Either way it didn't even let me select dates for February of next year, so not sure what's wrong. Emailed and tried calling, but never got a response back. Really upset that I'm not going to get the chance to go. read more

Over rated. We were excited to go based on the previous reviews, but this self guided tour fell very short. A few rooms with a few objects and literature to read. I would skip this $8 "attraction". read more

Very disappointed. Arrived at 4:10 to be told it was sold out and had to return the next day. Online it states open till 5. We were told to come back tomorrow but the problem is our flight was early the next morning and we live in Northern Ky. If you plan to keep something open until a specific time then by all means do so. read more

It was neat and all, but honestly, it's just an old, creaky house with just a few with relics in it. The staff wasn't kind and the whole thing was boring. It was, honestly, the most expensive twenty minutes I've ever had the displeasure to waste. It was nearly $10 a person, way too high for a self guided waste of time. For your own sake, and your wallets, go down the street to the House of The Seven Gables. It's about the same price and even more historic. read more

Two things. We did Dark of Night the weekend of Halloween, which is NOT worth your money. We followed the address we had on our ticket via Uber and it took us to the Witch House which was closed at our time to be at the event. So we had no one to tell us where to go. It wasn't until I went on the event pages FACEBOOK where I found out where we're supposed to be. We show up to this DARK parking lot, there's no light whatsoever, and it's 5 girls in a town and state we have never been to before and there's no signs and no people around to tell us where to go. We got dropped off by Uber AGAIN, and walked toward the water before anyone popped out and gave us hope that there even was an event this night. The event brings you to this old "village" that was built recently, but they're telling you ghost stories by the fire. There was one story that we liked and it was told by this lady who had lost her voice (bless her, she was awesome). But one story was an Edgar Allen Poe story read right out of the book (not spooky at all), and the second was a pirate story which was also not what we came to the Salem WITCH house to hear about. At least this was cheap. The next day, we did the Witch House and we were very excited to see this. The house itself on the outside is awesome. However you pay $20 or so to go in and read about what life was like back then. I wanted to hear about this judge! You read a little about him but it was mostly explaining why homes were built like this and what they slept in, ate and wore during the late 1600s. It's sad but this place isn't really worth your money. read more

A must see for any history buff. This is my favorite museum to visit in Salem by far. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Would love to to go back any time soon! read more

This place is really like stepping back into history, You get to walk threw the house and see the way it used to be back in the days of salem. The fireplace is my favorite in the entry room. It just makes everything feel so nice. Def worth the price of admission read more

Cool little walk through tour with tons of information. I wish there was more to it, but it did give some good history on the Salem witch trials. Wish the gift shop had more options. Parking here wasn't so terrible. read more

Only in Salem for one afternoon, so chose to spend our time in actual buildings instead of kitschy stuff or watching movies. The Witch House has a lot of stuff packed into it's small structure. I appreciated that it didn't just focus on the things surrounding the Witch trials, but also what life would have been like at the time the house was occupied. There is quite a bit to read, if you take the time to really peruse everything that's being shown. I wouldn't go here with children - they'll be bored and it doesn't have much for them. The is no "tour" here - it's all self-guided and you wander around to your heart's content. There are guides stationed around, so you can ask any questions you'd like and they were knowledgeable and helpful. Though the sign didn't say it was offered, I asked for a student discount and received (I think) $2 off with our college IDs, so make sure you ask. read more

Wow. I can't accurately put into words about how amazing this place is. I had the craziest spiritual experiences while in this house- so that for me was worth the admission alone! We did the self-guided tour and also talked with the woman who was stationed in the kitchen/dining area, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm telling everyone I know to go check out this house, it's a really important part of history with lots of intense energy still in it. If you are into the metaphysical, ghosts, and energy like I am, this place is a must! read more

This was something I really wanted to see visiting salem. There is about a 15/20 minute wait on line outside. It is a reading tour which could be better if A tour guide actually told you about the place. Nice history and the only building still around linked to the history of the witch trials read more

Witch House - The judges house - Museums Near Me - Salem, Massachusetts

I'm a very big Halloween fan and even bigger fall lover. Coming here in May was fun but I can only imagine what it's like in the festive season. It was a true treat to be able to see this historic place. To walk through the rooms an take in the scene they have kept in each room. While the house is small there are many things to see and read in the witch house. read more

Not for kids unless they like looking at artifacts from what life was like 1600's. We went in October and the line to get in was long, about 35 mins to get in. This put my kids (7 & 9) over the edge when all the waiting was not worth it as the house was not very interesting to them. Since it's self guided the kids guided themselves out the door shortly after they viewed the rooms. I took my time & asked questions and found it to be interesting. October in Salem is crowded and the workers at the house were a bit snappish. read more

The house is cool to see but the "tour" sucked. The lady downstairs was nice but didn't explain nothing about the house, the witch trials or any history... we asked a few questions... the lady upstairs basically avoided us on purpose.... no worth the hype... thank good was cheap.... read more

To avoid tourist traps museums with the word 'witch' are meant to be avoided. However, The Witch House was the only destination I allowed myself to visit that bordered on false embellishment. The premise is that the home once belonged to a judge who was involved with the Salem Trials. That's it folks. This house is all over the place with the information presented but it is highly interesting. There are no grand schemes or sensationalism present but calling the house a 'museum' is a bit of a stretch. I say this because I'm a preservation student and I'm not sure a single thing in the home is being kept within proper standards. Although, they do ask that you not use flash photography or touch items so that's a start. It's not a witch house. It's a house... with a lot of information about the Salem Witch trials, the proponents, and the culture of the time. Best part is they stress not once, but twice, the importance of fear. How hysteria holds power and how that relates to our modern world. Gave me strong AHS Cult vibes with that tid-bit. If you care about history and wish to do anything 'Witchey' in Salem this is for you. It is affordable, accurate, and gives precise information in an organized manner. However, it is a shame they pay employees to stand around answering questions people don't know to ask rather than guide a tour. Odd. read more

This is not actually the home of an accused witch but a judge. It is a two story Puritan home with original furnishings. Definitely a must see if you are enticed by this period of American history. It is a little dilapidated in comparison to other preserved historical homes but it ads to it read more

Due to COVID 19 tickets are for adults and have to be ordered a minimum of 2 days before 9$ and you ONLY get 10 whole minutes to tour the house!! They have lots of things to read but you only have 10 minutes to see everything. A accused witch did NOT live here it was just the house of a forgotten judge in the trials. NOT WORTH THE MONEY at least right now during this time. (COVID) read more

Very cool! Awesome to see actual artifacts from that time and walk the house and see the rooms and set up. Would have been better to have a tour guide or someone explaining what things are they had people in there telling you where to start and end but could have been more informative other then reading little plaques next to things! read more

Could've gotten better historical content from a second graders book report. Save yourself the money.

The Witch House is the only property in Salem still standing that is directly related to the Salem Witch Trials. It has an eerie appearance from the street and is in easy walking distance to all of the shopping in downtown Salem. We got in line early as soon as it was open and there was already a long line forming. The rooms are small and only a few people can go in at one time. You can peruse the house at your leisure and some of the artifacts and historical information were really interesting and unique from what I saw at any other historical location. read more

I came here yesterday with my boyfriend. We waited in a long line, which was expected, but there was no staff present outside to answer questions or explain anything. Their credit card machine was broken, and while I am understanding that things happen, this is a major attraction during the busiest season of the year, and I believe they certainly should have done something to fix or replace their credit card machine. We heard through the grapevine that the line wait was about 1.5 hours, but I feel that we only waited close to 45 minutes even with the line wrapped around to the front of the house. The price is very reasonable, $8.25. I believe if you go to Salem, you have to stop here. It's such an amazing piece of history that is still present to this day. As you walk through the house, you will need to read in order to understand what you're looking at, but it never felt overwhelming or overdone, like at other museums. Very glad we went here and the staff has done a great job at preserving this amazing piece of history! read more

Awesome place to explore and to learn history. Very informative and answered questions we had.

Remarkable that this house has been preserved. As a person from the Midwest someplace this old seems unreal in the US. Amazing what happened in this house and around Salem. It is a must see history stop in the Midwest. read more

Yes, the home's architectural and interior are interesting but admission prices ($8.25/adult) are high and the employees we encountered had their noses buried in books and didn't seem at all interested in providing information about the exhibits/trials. The home featured more exhibits relating to the witch trial time period rather than the actual witch trials. Overall, a disappointment and, sadly, not an attraction that I would recommend to others. read more

A small little historical house to see. Was just ok. Pricey for what you get. No guide or anyone there to tell you anything you just walk around this little house. Wouldn't be on my list to see if you didn't have the time to go. read more

This is one of the places you must visit if you are looking for the real places that were actually affiliated with the Witch Trials still left in Salem. One of the main Witch Trials Judges, Jonathan Corwin, lived here with his family. Its really cool to explore this house knowing not only that a famous American figure lived here but also that this home holds well over 350 years of history. They have lots of cool artifacts on display including a fork used by John Proctor who was one of the Witch Trials victims and also a main character of The Crucible. Admission is $8.25 and that may sound a little high considering the house isn't very big, but I'm happy to donate a little extra cash to make sure this crucial American history landmark remains in good shape. read more

I very much enjoyed visiting The Witch House. It almost seems you travel back in time just as soon as you set foot inside the house. The woman who was working behind the register was very pleasant and knowledgeable. If you're ever in Salem, take a tour here. You'll enjoy it very much. There is a lot of information in each of the rooms. Photography (no flash) is allowed, but you're better off seeing it for yourself. You won't be disappointed :) read more

Yes it is interesting and old, etc. If you like old history... go for it. However like other said it was expensive! It is a small house there is not much to do but look for all of 15 minutes! So to spent what I think was close to 10 dollars per person was insane! The house is very interesting. My boyfriend and I are big fans of Ghost Adventures so that was why we knew we had to come here. The ghost adventures team came to the Witch House and claimed they got in touch with the first lady ( Brigitte Bishop) who was hung during the witch trials. When I was upstairs I definitely felt a presence. There was an extreme amount of energy pushing down on my chest. I am happy I saw the place. But when I return to Salemt I will not pay to see it again. read more

The Witch house was such a beautiful and historic place. It is the only surviving structure that was involved with the witch trials which is extremely interesting to me. My boyfriend and I came to Salem to experience the history as well had have a change of scenery from the other usual spring break places and when it came to fulfilling out historical hunger The Witch House surely jam packed our palettes. Not only was the staff members very friendly and knowledgable about the property and the individual items themselves but they were extremely helpful with explaining details with any questions we were curious about. The house in itself was very historical and dated (in the best way possible) and the artifacts within were even more exciting then we had planned. Everything was historically accurate and all of the furniture as well as writings were dated to it's original time. There were all sorts of interesting objects from receipts and recipes dating back to the witch trials all the way to herbs and instruments used to ward off evil spirits. The house in itself has it's own history on display and when you're a design student, like myself, the architecture of the Old New England house will tickle the fancy of any person who loves a good ole brain tingling slap of history. We were lucky that it wasn't as busy but we also came on a pretty cold day, I personally didn't think the price was all too bad; but if you're waiting a while and aren't very interested in the history I could understand how it seems out of the price range of someone of different taste. Definitely somewhere to go if you want a taste of what Salem has to offer when it comes to the witch trials. read more

I enjoyed the history of this museum. It was neat to see a structure that was so old & to see how people lived back then.

Authentic history. Interesting rooms, filled with history. Lovely staff, very friendly. Small but worth a look. Nice bits of history, such as what a block of tea looked like, and actual furniture from the witch trial times. read more

We took the unguided tour of the Witch House and it was surprisingly interesting. The house (which is actually the judge's house) was filled with artifacts from the time and was more informative about the day-to-day lives of the citizens of Salem in the 1600's than the trials themselves. The house is well maintained and there are placards of information all over the walls. Another (major) plus is that it is one of the only museums in Salem WITHOUT corny dioramas filled with old mannequins!!! The Witch House is only a five-minute walk from the Witch Dungeon Museum, which I would also highly recommend. read more
