Better than Costco at the food samples! Wisteria Gardens is a reliable, local greens and sauces/dips/dressings option at Eastern Market. They have (overpriced $4!) chips and pitas, and all of those amazing sauces and dips to try on pita or chips, as well as an expanding albeit inconsistent repertoire of greens. Make sure to use the little utensils to get samples (no dipping of chips!) or you might get reprimanded.
MY FAVES
I especially like the Indian curry hummus, Quinoa salad, Spicy Cilantro salsa, and the Peanut Sauce. They also have other salsas, dips, salad vinaigrette, and other hummus options. I know they just started branching out into bottled sauces, so keep an eye out for new stuff!
$$$
Prices can run a little steep, but everything is fresh and packed on dry ice for display. This isn't Pace salsa, you're going to have to put this in the fridge as soon as you get home. Container for dips, sauces, etc are bigger than 2 decks of cards, smaller than a Steno half notebook(4oz?).
*3 containers for $12
*1 container for $4.5
*$4 for chips alone
GREENS
Think you hate salad? This place demonstrates what salad mixes are supposed to look like(micro greens!). Sometimes they even have edible flowers in 'em and usually run around $5. I don't like salad, but this stuff is actually very appetizing and visually appealing too (sugar snap pea shoots! marigolds!). Of course I throw chicken and a little dressing on top of it, but I digress. They do run out of greens rather early though, so don't dawdle.
LOCATION
Usually they're under the overhang on 7th in front of Eastern Market on Saturdays and Sundays.
Why are these amazing ppl getting 4.25 stars instead of 5? They've been steadily raising their prices (it was $10/4 sauces last spring! Now it's $12/3 hence) and are inconsistent on what they have/run out of stuff. read more
