What a fantastic new place for this antiques and interior design store that was formerly housed in…read morea tiny space in a random part of Hingham, and is now in a huge light-filled space in the pleasantly busy Hingham Shipyard shopping area. In addition to interesting items from the 19th century there is a vast array of mid-century modern furniture and accessories. You don't have to have a house or office entirely devoted to Mad Men sensibilities to appreciate this modernist aesthetic. The space is such that things have enough room to be clearly seen and admired. This is not like some antique stores which can be dark, and overly filled with items placed too closely together to get a proper perspective. The furniture, lamps, glassware, dishes, and art work are all spread out in a double-wide space with plenty of room and high ceilings making it easy to walk around and admire everything while imagining this or that in your own home. Peter, the owner, and his adorable assistant, the perky dachsund, make browsing a pleasure. Questions are cheerfully answered and conversation about art, decor and furniture flows. Right now I have my eye on a beautiful drafting table that can change positions allowing it be used as a desk. I just fell in love with it this weekend and will have to go back tomorrow for another look. Some of the prices are more on the high side than I think they need to be but I get the sense that the owner is ready to do business with the serious shopper. This store is lovely, the owner charming and many of the pieces are fabulous. I'm glad this place has been able to expand while still remaining conveniently in my neck of the woods. It's definitely worth stopping by but leave that drafting table for me.

I gave them clothes, my kids didn't fit in any more, for consignment…read more The staff was friendly and courteous. I was surprised at the turnaround time for selling the items. To be honest the only reason I thought of bringing something there was because my girlfriend shops there... A lot! She says the prices are good. Personally I think it's hard to tell considering the amount of stuff she brings home. She's always yammering on about. all the 'exciting' things she finds there. (I have no idea what's so exciting about clothes! ...Just saying) Regardless, I felt that I got a fair value for what I brought in.

Seller Beware! It's just super frustrating to be a consignor here. One of your items sold? Great,…read morebut oh no, we're holding back your $12. Just because. You saw funds drop into your consignor account after selling something? Great . . oh, but you might see the very same item on their in-house online selling account, and at a higher price than your item was "sold" for. No point in asking what's going on, because there are no answers, just deflection, deflection. When you finally give up on consigning, as I did, and ask very politely for the funds from your last sale, expect to receive nothing. Because "you don't have enough in your account so you'll have to ask the owner". Ask the owner for the funds from my own consigned items, but "it's unlikely he'll make an exception"? It's an interesting business model, I grant you that! For me, another hard lesson learned! If you're shopping for bargains, it will only benefit you. If you want to turn over a few of your nice things- nope!

I have also purchased items here and LOVE the "Band Shirts" and Classic Rock Memorabilia. Sometimes I just go there to socialize with the terrific staff and clients. I have run into some members of the South Shore Music Community, who enjoy this place as much as I do. The "Squire 2" Bass Guitar that I bought here has become my main axe even though my other bass was 4X as expensive. I also have bought some antique ethnic instruments that adorn my walls, and a Concert T-Shirt that I will be giving as a Christmas Gift to my Sister. So, as a consignor AND a Customer (and a FRIEND), I can't say enough good stuff about this place. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

His inventory isn't computerized so that's kind of a bummer, but he seems to keep himself organized…read moredespite this fact. Also, he can be hard to pin down. The first few times I tried to reach him in the store (this was over 6 months ago) he wasn't in the store during normal advertised hours. His rules are pretty fair. He doesn't charge a fee to open an account. You can come get clothing after 60 days (or more - it's not a hard and fast rule). He prices everything on his own and the price does go down after 30 days. I managed to sell about half my things for $70. I did spend a fair amount of time trying to get in touch with him. On my second visit I texted him via facebook and he failed to mention that he wasn't taking in any more clothing which I brought with me to the store. I was little miffed. Overall, Ian is a nice guy and has a handle on Men's brands and what clothing is worth and what will sell. If anything, he could use a bigger space and perhaps a computer! One last tip - I guess people prefer older stuff to newer stuff with tags so keep that in mind when cleaning out your closet!

Inventory is online, so it's super easy to buy. Prices drop on a schedule but don't wait too long because things sell! Delivery isn't included in the purchase price so you are paying for that but if you don't have someone to muscle furniture into a truck and home for you, it's well worth it. I've even shopped online without even driving to Natick to examine a chair because I just knew it was the perfect chair to zuzsh up my gray living room! Last week I moved furniture around in my home, re-purposing some pieces, donating some pieces to Salvation Army Thrift Store (also a great place to shop!) all to change up the look in my decor and scale down the size. Finding one display cabinet and a gorgeous French bistro'ish table later I was happy. Of course, waking up at 3am and realizing my Ethan Allen chairs were NOT going to come close to coordinating with the perfect table, meant one more trip for the chairs the store had coordinated in a display with the table! Delivery of the table and display cabinet was within a week, I took the chairs in my car, and done! There's everything here. Furniture, lamps, wall decor, area rugs. All styles, all prices, all ready to go. I highly recommend stopping by here, it's the best consignment shop I have found so far in the Pembroke/Marshfield vicinity. The employees there are kind, helpful, and truly welcoming. The one thing I would improve is the organization methods they use. Sometimes there's just way too much clothing, and i'm sure the employees there get overwhelmed with keeping everything in order.. Perhaps take less items from people trying to sell? Or perhaps expand even more, or even hire another employee to help remain organized.

Also, pro tip: if you're lucky to lose a little weight and your clothes are looser than normal, clean 'em up and donate! It makes it less likely that you'll creep back into that bigger size if they're gone and someone else is looking good! Inside, the store is bright, staffed well, the items are out to sell and if you don't see what you want today, go back tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. New things are always to be found.
