WHAT'S IN A NAME? Everything. Salvage is what a true thrift thrill seeker is after...after all. The…read morerescue of items abandoned by others for an affordable price. It rained all week during our annual Scituate vacation. With the final closing of our childhood hangout shop The Quarterdeck, we road-tripped in search of a new salvage-junk-used-thrift-stuff store. How lucky are we! We found it! Christine runs a tight salvage "ship" with her rabbit warren of rooms featuring clean, smart vignettes of items that transport buyers right into the setting of the glory days of her items. A shabby-chic cotton tablecloth over a vintage Formica kitchen table that is host to a collection of green milk glass and a pile of lusciously displayed fabric cooking aprons. A child's wagon full of clown figures from cloth to glass, just waiting for someone to pull them home (I opted instead for the awesome vintage metal bowl embossed with the depiction of a happy lobster!) A hardcover book from 1969 that claims to be "1000 Jokes For Kids" and yet showcases such gems as "Why are politicians like lobsters?" I'll tell you - because they both change color when they find themselves hot water! I bought it along with a 1949 volume "40 Rainy Day Games." A delightful little book where you can learn how to make a Susie Shy Label Doll. The adult kids in the family are delighted. Claudia also help me dig through Fiestaware, Blendo glass, record albums, vintage chairs and metal art, chenille bedspreads (Oh yes, ladies of a certain age who lolled dreamily on those flowered nubs while blue-eyed, puka-shell neckace wearing Bobby Sherman - our Justin Bieber - sang to us out of a record player way back when), lobster pots that catch lobsters and lobster pots that catch is cooked in, candlesticks, stained glass, crockery, old Polaroid cameras, almanacs, lamps, glass beads, old time sports pennants, local homemade honey (!), new candles and on. And on. The conversation is lively, like a corner barbershop and on my first visit I spent over an hour chatting with another customer about paperback books from the 70s, movies, Burt Reynolds, mustaches and whether or not I thought it may rain. Loved it! From mid-century metals to country primitive woods, Salvage Chic is a sorely needed floating, undulating retro island swimming strongly in an ocean where most small bookstores and groovy "junk shops" are no more than memories. Yet there really is no junk here. Everything is priced to sell and yet every item is truly priceless. I trekked my treasures back to Miami and when I finish this review, I will fill up my online cart. Because yes, Salvage Chic ships!

I consigned three pieces and after not hearing whether or not they sold, contacted the store. I was told they did sell (two anyway, the third they couldn't give me an explanation what happened to it), and that a check was sent to my house. Either that was a lie (most probable) or it was lost in the mail. Either way, I never received a check. The store said they'd send another check less $35 for a stop payment on the first. Then they changed their mind and decided not to reissue a check for any amount. The figure is too small to pursue legal recourse and not worth wasting my time. But it's not so unimportant as to not raise a red flag to others.

Please do not consign with this woman, her communication skills are very, very poor as are her business practices. All the bullet points that she lists on her website for how the process works with the consigner are not followed. While I was emailing her my photos of my items I found that her emails were curt with poor grammar, misspelled words, very unprofessional. I hired her delivery person who was exceptional to pick up my items and take them to her store. I never heard from her. According to the bullet points on her website, she collaborates with the consigner on the price which makes total sense. I would want to trust the judgment of somebody that is in the business of selling used furniture, however, after two days, I never heard from her. I emailed her and she said she was listing sofa for 449$, chair for 388$, I do not consider this as collaboration. When I looked at the website and saw a picture of my sofa, the price on it was 499$ ,not the price she told me in the email. I have not heard a word from her in almost 2 months, I will be reporting her to the Better Business Bureau and the attorney general. There is a paper trail in the emails, however I didn't receive any kind of receipt or agreement to sign, lazy, and a poor way to run a business. Technically there is no proof she received the goods and I do not even know if I will ever hear from her and I really don't care at this point , it's quite disconcerting as I paid $300 to have these items delivered to her shop. Since my sofa and chair are still on the featured items on the website, I am assuming that they have not sold , again minimal to no communication. She is making a lot of money with very little effort and the consigners are her bread and butter. They should be treated with respect as if not for them she would not have a business. Please do not consign with this woman. She needs to be put out of business for her poor and shady business practices. I don't know if this is just laziness or some kind of entitlement. It appears she wishes to obtain items to sell with minimal effort , communication, and paperwork. Therefore is there any proof that I delivered the furniture to her? I only see one negative review from another consigner.i am wondering if other consigners have had similar experiences and they are just not posting them. As I already stated, I am reporting her to the Better Business Bureau and the attorney general, I want it on record. Also I responded to her email one morning during the initial process early, before 8am and I certainly don't expect people to respond immediately outside of business hours. But I got curt email indicating "we do not open till 10 AM " which I can only assume meant -why are you emailing me so early? Very rude. She answered my question briefly and said we don't open till 10 AM and it is not clear why she said that as I said nothing about what time they opened in my previous email ,so I can only assume that she meant I shouldn't have been emailing her that early. There was no expectation on my part to have her answer the email before business hours. Rude and poor business practices. I believe I have given several examples of her poor communication and unprofessional attitude/ behavior in this review.

I tried on a bunch of items, which unfortunately didn't fit, but no worries there because these items are so vintage and authentic, you would never want to force it. Wish List Consignment has an astounding collection of men's and women's quality clothing and accessories from about 1910 to the 1980s. This is true vintage and so unique. This is the place to find that beaded cashmere cardigan from the 50s or a classic little black dress right for any occasion whether it be a day at the office or a New Year's Eve bash. I could spend hours there and still feel like I didn't see everything. The shop owner , Gretchen , is knowledgeable and she really makes shopping FUN! They even have a growing selection of household items. I recently came in to pick up a working antique phone for just $25 that I saw on their Facebook page just before Christmas. I have seen people of all ages shopping for everything from prom dresses to Halloween costumes and having a blast. The prices are very reasonable for such unique items and the location is great. You can find the store at the Hanover Mall with its own entrance between Sears and Macy's.
