What is not so commonly known is that Calon Wen is a Welsh dairy co-operative that produces organic milk and butter made from creamy Welsh organic milk. The fact that it's a co-op singles it out as being even more special. Thi of course means that everyone involved in the production of the milk and butter benefits equally, instead of the more feudal models that allow the fat cats to skim off all the profits, leaving the producers out in the cold. It's fair to say that the cost of the Calon Wen products is usually higher than their nearest rivals on whatever shop shelf you find them on, but th fact that this is an equitable business certainly prompts me to buy their goods in preference to some of the cheaper products.

Caramalised onion relish, ok, a bit on the sweet side for me, fiery tomato relish, not fiery, both a nice consistence though. So far we have tried garlic sausages which smelt really garlicky, not so much strong flavoured when cooked, they were large. The other type was with wild mushrooms, a lot smaller, I really enjoyed these. Also bought 2 of their homemade chutneys, but tried yet. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

The shop was refitted a few years ago and now it is a modern, inviting shop with a wide open doorway. In addition to raw and cooked meats they also have a fresh fish counter selling fish caught locally in Milford Haven. I sometimes pop in for a hot beef roll at lunchtime, like many people. You can always see them out with their barbeque on carnival nights and during the local food festival. Their burgers are fantastic! This butchers is at the heart of the local community as they sponsor the local youth rugby team and donate regularly to local fundraising events. A credit to Narberth.

The Spar shop is right at the heart of Narberth, centrally located on the High Street. It is always…read morebusy with people popping in for their bits of shopping. There is quite a wide range of groceries, newspapers, magazines, and plants and flowers outside too. There is a hot food counter selling fresh bacon or sausage rolls, pastries and takeaway tea and coffee. They sell a good selection of fresh cakes and bread which is delivered daily. The Spar also has a small selection of DVDs to rent. All in all this is a very popular shop selling a wide range of goods at reasonable prices. The queuing system is a little haphazard but that is really the only gripe I have. Most people are very polite and work out for themselves who is next in the queue!
