They cleaned the yard so much so you would have known they were ever here, except for a very nice looking roof. It was a very labor intensive job, but the crew worked hard and cheerfully without a complaint heard. Even when I had questions, they did not mind my interruptions. BEWARE! Do not trust this incompetent, so called contractor…read more I hired Martin Dexter to rehab a property. I flip houses all the time, so I am very familiar with the entire process. He bid the property out (as an entire project from start to move-in ready), and told us he would have it done in 60 days. I didn't believe it could be done in 60 days, but he assured me; so I set it up for a 90 day turn. Martin took a huge chunk up front (to pay his help and materials) and said he wouldn't need anything else until the job was finished. Not even two months into the project, and less than 20% complete, he had nothing but excuses as to why he wasn't making much head way, and was struggling financially; however, constantly ensuring he would NEVER quit and will finish the job no matter what. Do not trust him, his words are garbage. He said he was making great headway, much of the work were things we just couldn't see, but he assured us it was being done correctly. He walked off the job site twice demanding he get more money or he wouldn't work. Time and time again we would go to the property and Martin was rarely there. He swore he wasn't taking on any other jobs, then I saw another gentleman write a complaint about him during the time he was supposed to be focusing on my job. He lied constantly. He let his ex-wife send demanding messages and bogus invoices to us demanding more money and threatening property liens. He will tell you and reassure you one thing; yet let her send a nasty message later that evening contrary to everything he just said. Then he will back track without her knowing and tell you "sorry, just ignore it, I have to sleep with her". He is NOT a business man, he is NOT a professional, and his license should be revoked and banned from any work anywhere. He is SLOW at what work he does, and the work he does is HORRIBLE. He will tell you and act like he knows what he's doing, and will smooth talk you all the way until he gets every dime he can. He'll tell you he was raised in a military family, and his name and his word mean everything. It's all nonsense... he is a liar with zero integrity. Bottom line is, he walked off the job after making up excuses for a month as to why he wasn't there. It's not even half complete, and he has blown through the entire budget. He stole flooring material from the job site and still hasn't returned the keys to the property. He is manipulative in every way. What little work he has completed in the 11 MONTHS I have had this property, I have to hire professionals to redo. He says he can do anything, and everything he has done looks HORRIBLE. There is a law suit coming.

After discussing the job in detail with the owner and accepting the bid for the job, I gave him a check for half of the labor and all of the materials, Since I was on an extended stay away from my home, it was the perfect time to allow him to work on his own schedule and have it finished by the time I got home sometime in the Fall. After receipt of a few pictures of the start of the job, and that I have a great relationship with a family member of his, I looked forward to getting this last item finished for my kitchen. In the middle of the summer I asked him how it was going and he said he would send some pics, but I never received any of them. By early August, I called him to see if he would finish one more small job for me and asked about the progress of the kitchen back splash. He said it was complete, that it looked like a designer job but he could not send me pictures because his phone's camera broke a few weeks ago but would send pics soon. I never received pics, but was not concerned because he is the son of a great friend. Upon my return in mid-October, I had to get out of my vehicle to move a portable table that still had the tile cutter/tray on it in the middle of the garage. It was only then that I remembered that a new back splash awaits me...but what a shock I had when I walked into the kitchen to find partially cut tiles laying on my counters, the first row of tiles were up, but most of the second row was barely started. Upon a closer look, what should have been square corners were not, holes around the light switch was too big, and some tiles were cut and removed that obviously did not fit as they had been taken off and put on the counter with mortar on the back of them that had dried. Even though it was late, I immediately called him to let him know I was home and that he needed to call me. That was a Wednesday evening, and on Saturday he sent me a text message that told me he would be by to finish the job the next Monday and the reason he didn't finish the job was that he was waiting for me to get home so I could show him in person how I wanted the tile completed under the cabinets. He had never communicated this to me in all those months, and as a matter of fact he specifically said it was completed and looked like a "designer job." Suffice it to say that he never called, showed up or attempted to make amends. I am out that money, had to have another contractor demo his job as I found out no one would want to have their name attached to such a mess, and had to pay for the materials and labor all over again. No attempt has been made by him to make amends or return any of the money had for this job.
