Every year my department has Biergarten summer party. This was the first year we came to Zamdorfer. It is your usual Biergarten, lovely green garden with ample seating, play area near by for kids and a cozy indoor restaurant for rainy days (as our day happen to be). It is more than a little off the beaten path, but if you happen to be in the area, it is good option for some yummy German food, with no frills or experimentations.
We had a couple tables pushed together in a few groups. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to really sit as a large group (about 30) together. This made it a little more difficult to talk to different people and half of us had our backs to the other tables. But, all in all, it worked fine.
I ordered the Entrecôte with Seasonal Veggies (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots) with Herb butter. The meat was good, cooked to about medium, which for me was perfect. However, I had two colleagues who ordered the same... one who prefers rare and received more medium, maybe borderline medium rare, and one who ordered medium well and received a definite rare. Unfortunately, this one also came with the wrong vegetables. She received seasonal vegetables when she ordered the Mushrooms and Onions. The plate was given to her with the promise of mushrooms and onions to come shortly. After having then cut into her meat to find it well below her requested cook, she promptly informed the waiter. After a quick glance he informed her it was medium-well. When she insisted he take another look, he finally did and then agreed it was rare and took it back. About 5 minutes later a bowl of mushrooms and onions were brought out to her by a confused waitress wondering what happen to the plate with the meat and incorrect vegetables that were brought earlier. We explained the situation and my colleague was at least able to begin eating her vegetables. She received later her meat, now correctly cooked, with the same seasonal vegetables and a mounding heap of mushrooms and onions. I suppose one should not complain about getting extra food as a mistake in the kitchen, but it seems that for a mostly empty restaurant other than our group and only about 3 staff members, the communication amongst themselves could have been a little better. No one had complaints about the food taste-wise. Everything was very good and generous, German proportions. There was definitely several mistakes in who ordered what or with what side dishes. I am not sure they are able to handle the larger groups like this, despite the fact that we ordered in stages as people came in, so it wasn't just one big order. Perhaps that made it more difficult, but "order groups" were about 10-15 minutes apart and those groups sat together, so I would have thought that would make it easier.
I'd recommend this place as the food was good and the setting nice. Maybe go in smaller groups though. read more
