Picture it: my first week in Munich. Surrounded by carnivale treats, and just the typical Bavarian fare (bread, so much bread. sugar, so much sugar. nuttellllllllllla). ...and... I managed to find the only "real" cupcake shop in the entire city. When I learned that Robin W had NEVER tried this cutesy "delicacy" we made a beeline for Wir Machen Cupcakes, and did away with that little problem forever! Now don't worry, surely I'm going to try all the wonderful Bavarian desserts and pastries...at least a bite of each. I promise. But, cupcakes called and we answered. It's not inauthentic, it's research. We had to go and make sure this stuff was the real deal. Well I did, since Robin wouldn't have known...but you get the idea. And I am here to attest: the cupcakes at Wir Machen are EXCELLENT. A bit of backstory: I don't even really LOVE cupcakes. I get the idea, I love sweets...etc, etc. But I could never really get down with the trendy cupcake thing in the states. Sure I've enjoyed a cupcake or two (or 50) in my day and I'd never turn one down, but I was never one to be all drooly wooly (fanatical) over them. Honestly, a bit too sweet. That was always my complaint... Well, Wir Machen made my dreams come true...as Germans aren't as prone to the overly-sweet tastes of Americans/Aussies, etc, they tempered the recipe. And I am here to divulge, it's RIGHT on the money. I had the coconut flake cupcake, and it was dreamy. Soft, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly portioned. Have mercy, really. I will go back and try some others. The shop itself is beyond adorable with a chic comfortable vibe. It is quite small though, so be warned. 4 chairs and 2 small tables...I'm sure in the summer months the sidewalk is fair game as well. They also serve coffee, of course. It would be the perfect treat to sit here with a mini cake and espresso for just a few minutes to stop time. It would. German cupcakes. Can and will be done, here. Approved. Price a little over 3euro/each. Oh, and Robin obviously approves of his first cupcake...you can read his review for more. You're welcome Mr. W! read more
If you REALLY concentrate and try not to be distracted by all the cute details in the shop to objectively judge the cupcakes, then you'll probably draw the conclusion that they're really nothing special (in my opinion this applies to cupcakes in general). Cupcakes are basically a tiny muffin with a very very greasy topping. In the specific case these tiny muffins are also very expensive. The above follows from the fact that I'm more a person of substance, less of form. I admit that the little place is cute and the idea to open here a little shop dedicated to the greasy American specialty with all the creative toppings is original. I'd give 4 stars only to this idea. That said, the place is so tiny that it gets claustrophobic if just 2-3 customers are in line for cupcakes. And it can also take AGES before it's your turn since the waiters (super nice and friendly, this must be said) also have to make and serve coffee to the people occupying the two tables in the back. I don't want to give a bad review, it's just that Wir Machen Cupcakes is yet again one of those places that suddenly becomes fashionable in this city and everyone says great things about but there's no real objective basis for that. A typical Munich thing. read more
So I was super excited about coming here, the pictures looked awesome and the reviews were pretty good.. But.. and here is the big BUT the cupcake was just ok.. I went for a Nutella cupcake with a peanut butter filling.. Oh paper it's basically what dreams are made of, but sadly didn't live up to expectations. The sponge was very dry, despite the peanut butter filling and it despite the icing being really nice, I had a job finishing it. The staff are super friendly and went in search of the wifi password, so could be connected again to the world. The cafe is very nice decorated with lots of pink, which made me happy and had comfy seats, so you can mill away a few hours. Only downside is there's no toilet. All in all, it seemed a popular place, so I think if I tried the red velvet or the carrot, my opinion of the cakes might change... This story as they is tbc... read more

We wanted a cronut and I Googled "Cronuts in Munich" and this place came up. I was easily mesmerized by the website and selection. Everything looked amazing. We wandered in late afternoon. That may have been our mistake. I'll get to that in a second. 5 stars on the decor. This place is adorable. The cakes and treats look absolutely amazing. The ambiance was excellent. 5 stars on the staff. A blonde woman working was very helpful and sweet. She was energetic and friendly. We were excited that there was a fair selection of cupcakes and 1, yes 1 cronut left! We were so excited we were going to get the last one. We actually took almost 1 of every cupcake as well. We were having a "cheat day" from our normal daily intake and wanted a taste of all of them. We spent €38 Euro. ON. CUPCAKES. Fine, we were prepared for it and knew what we were doing. This is where it goes completely downhill. The cupcakes were not good. Not in the slightest. The vanilla cake was ok... It reminded me more of a sweet cornbread. The chocolate was decent. Let me stop here. I am from America, but I live in Germany now and I have traveled all of Europe..... I understand and appreciate that pastries here are not as sweet. I actually prefer that. Hence, why I enjoyed the chocolate cake part of the cupcakes. However, the icing is absolutely terrible. It is greasy and strange. I am also a chef of 20 years and have made a few thousand different icings in my life. This one is so, so strange. It's like unflavored fat... I can't pin down how they are making it, but it's not correct. I could even deal with the fattiness of it, if it had any flavor... Not just sugar, but any flavor. I will give the strawberry icing 3 stars. The guava 3 stars and the rainbow 3 stars. The rest were just bad. The raspberry explosion was a boring vanilla cake, with semi flavored crisco that was purple on top, no raspberry inside or anything. The cookies and cream icing was different, but still very weird. We ended up throwing most of them in the trash. I tried a few bites of each and they were all the same. The black forest was an insult to black forest cakes all over Germany.... It was tasteless and boring. The carrot cake seemed to be the only saving grace.... 4 stars, but my local Bäckerei has better. The 3 chocolate options we had didn't taste of chocolate at all... Not even a bit. It was like plain whipped cream. Very strange. The cronut was sort of the opposite... The cream and chocolate bits in the middle were tasteless and then the pink icing was so sweet it would make you pucker. The cronut was also hard as a rock (could be our mistake for getting there towards the end of the day... So we will give them a pass in that one) I really hate writing bad reviews. But as a restaurant owner and chef, I also know that honest feedback is important. I see they are fairly successful, so take this how you want. I really wish them the best, but I won't return and I won't send people there. I'm still on the lookout for a better cupcake. read more
My friend knew that I am a huge cupcake fan, and thought to take me here and see it compares. I loved it! The place is really tiny, but it feels like entering a whimsical tea room. Our servers that day were so upbeat too. The young lady was very accommodating when she realized I didn't speak German, very appreciated! I couldn't decide what I wanted they all looked so good. I was there the weekend of the Gay Pride Festival, so in honor Cupcakes had a rainbow colored cake, still kind of curious how they got each color so perfectly on the cake. I couldn't decide what I wanted, but eventually I went with the blueberry cupcake with a blueberry filling and frosting. First off, German cakes in general are not as sweet as American cakes, which for me was a huge bonus. I thought the cake had the right amount of sweetness, and was perfect cupcake consistency. I never order anything with fruity filling in the states because everything is always over-sugared, however, like their cake, Cupcakes' filling was sweet, but a little tart too. I am "Team Cake" not "Team Frosting" so I had to remove half of the frosting from the cupcake. My friend and the servers in the store had a mini debate about that. =) The owner was very kind too. Overall, I really liked this place and their cupcakes. Part of me wished I had tried the passion-fruit cupcake, but I will save that for next time. Keep up the great work. And I really meant what I said, Cupcakes is number one on my list next to Sprinkles. read more
Yes!!!! I was in Munich during my birthday and secretly hoped I'd find a place that sold cupcakes. This place did not disappoint. I tried the Sweet Day Karamell cupcake, and it was amazing. It is a chocolate cupcake with caramel inside, as well as a caramel buttercream. That buttercream...oh man. It was good. It's been two weeks since I was there and I can still taste it. My cupcake was €3,50 so they're not even expensive. There's not a ton of frosting on there, as many American bakeries love to do. There are also loads of other flavours, including Fat Elvis (I chuckled at this, living in Memphis), red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, lemon, etc. They also sell cake pops and cinnamon rolls. As tempting as it was to go crazy and get a bunch of everything, I just kept it to the one cupcake. The woman who worked in the shop was also incredibly friendly. There are also a couple tables where you can sit and enjoy your baked goods. read more

I just had a GREAT experience with Wir Machen Cupcakes!! I would highly recommend them to anyone. My fiance works in Munich and I wanted to send him cupcakes to work as a surprise for his birthday. Being all the way in Seattle, I needed a place that would take my order over email and that also would deliver to his office. I emailed Wir Machen (in my pathetic, broken German as well as in English) and Chrissie got back to me within just a few hours! She kindly wrote me back in English and was incredibly helpful - she provided me with a ton of good info and said that they could deliver, as well. After I emailed her back with my order (18 cupcakes: 6 red velvet, 6 vanilla, and 6 chocolate decadence) she followed up promptly and confirmed the order. She even asked what time I'd like them delivered and included a note that I'd written for him. The cupcakes arrived to my fiance's office on time and looking fabulous. He was so surprised and he and his co-workers LOVED the cupcakes - they event sent me a photo of them all smiling and holding up the empty wrappers ;-) Although I didn't taste the cupcakes myself I heard that they were AMAZING and the presentation and decoration were beautiful. combined with the awesome customer service I got from Chrissie, I would never go anywhere else in Munich for cupcakes! read more
I LOVE the cupcakes here!!! I first discovered Wir Machen Cupcakes in 2011 and can honestly say that it's been my "downtown" treat ever since. Whenever I come into the city center my husband knows that we will be making a stop. usually we take 2 to-go and then eat them that evening for dessert. They have perfect fitting to-go containers and that make them very convenient to transport. Only thing is, watch out not to tip them over as you walk - they still taste as good but they don't look quite as nice. Their recipe has been perfected for the 'not so overly sweet German pallet' and I have to admit, even as an American, I like them much better than the cupcakes back home. I've tried many of their flavors and really like the Chai latte, however, I always go back to the Red Velvet. It's so light, fluffy and topped with the perfect amount of delicious cream cheese frosting - yum! Can't wait for my next visit! read more

YESSSSS! REAL Cupcakes in Munich! This place single-handedly can make any bad day okay again. I also would consider myself a huge cupcake junkie. I even have the cupcake tattoo to prove it. I feel an obligation to give my two cents here. I agree with the other reviewers that the place is small, but what else would you expect? What a risk they took to open a little shop that sells a treat that's not really that popular in Germany in the first place....kudos to them! There is also a 2nd location now by Marienplatz that I haven't tried yet, but it also quite small. Again, that shouldn't be considered a negative thing in my opinion. I have tried every cupcake on their standard menu, except the lemon one (because I personally am just not a big lemon fan)...and every single one was been consistently moist and the frosting is always thick, fluffy, and not too sweet. I have never experienced this "oily" frosting that some people are mentioning. The only reason I could think of this as happening would be if the cupcakes were on display on a hot day....sometimes cakes "sweat" which could have given them an oily texture perhaps. The variety here is wonderful, and they always make special holiday/event cupcakes to switch things up. I don't have a single bas thing to say about this place. Yea, the cupcakes are prices from 2,60 to about 3,00, but I think it's worth every cent! read more
Making cupcakes is no slight matter. A cupcake is not a muffin. It needs to be somewhat moist without being too oily. The frosting should not be too dense or too sweet. Because it is a version of a small cake, there should be some level of creativity in a cupcake that otherwise would be too much for a cake. Ok, I admit that I am somewhat of a cupcake snob. After reading about Wir Machen Cupcakes on Yelp (thanks!), I decided to give this place a try. Don't expect to enjoy these little desserts in the shop as there is no space for that. The shop is literally a counter with very little standing room. I went on a Friday afternoon and did not have to wait at all to order (actually the server waited for me to place the order). There were 8 varieties of cupcakes to choose. I bought 4 cupcakes: "Red Velvet," "Chocolate Decadence," "Lemon Kiss," and "Sweet Day Karamell." I was pleased that they used cream cheese frosting for the Red Velvet (as my snobby self would have been displeased with anything else). My overall impression: * Cakes were mostly moist (a little on the drier side but not too bad). * No complains with the Red Velvet cream cheese frosting. The buttercream frostings for the chocolate and caramel cakes, with the addition of chocolate pieces and caramel+nuts, respectively, were decent. Lemon Kiss was average. Personally, a little too much frosting for the amount of cake. * Price: They're on the higher range between 2,80 to 3,50 EUR per cupcake. Can they indeed "make cupcakes?" Yes, but there is room for improvement. read more
these are the best cupcakes i've found in Munich so far... but somehow they don't really do it for me. I am definitely a frosting person though, the cake part was fantastic. The frosting though was a little on the heavy side, almost greasy somehow. the place is very tiny - we went by one afternoon and some people were spread-out all over onto the only two tables in the place. From the looks of their coffee cups, they'd been finished for quite awhile, and from the looks of them, they weren't leaving anytime soon. So we had to get our cupcakes 'to go' -- it's possible they didn't benefit from traveling with us all over town for the rest of the afternoon. read more

Super super cute!!! The atmosphere in this place is really lovely. It's fairly tiny, but very cozy. Cute cupcakes and tables just add to the atmosphere. Great cupcakes. We tried the lemon and red velvet ones. Red velvet had really awesome flavorful icing. Recommended! read more

Sorry, although everything looks nice and the cupcake was OK...they are too expensive for what you get and if you are American then you will be disappointed. 3 euros for one small cupcake? Germans don't seem to get this sugar and dessert thing. They just aren't sweet enough. read more

Amazing cupcakes!! We live in Switzerland and were in Munich to celebrate my boyfriend's 40th birthday. I ordered cupcakes and had them delivered to a restaurant for a surprise birthday party and was not dissapointed!! The cupcakes were DELICIOUS and specially decorated. I found the company very easy to deal with, they were very accomodating with my request and the whole delivery went smoothly. I highly recommend ordering from them! read more

There's a saying in German that we also eat with our eyes, and this beautiful cupcake shop resting in Munich's city center more than fulfills this potential for a wonderful culinary experience of both senses. It's one of those rare occasions where something tastes as wonderful as it looks. The designs are as delightful as the cupcakes themselves. Soft, Fluffy & Fresh, every cupcake I've had there was something to be slowly enjoyed. The small cafe itself is also a wonderful place to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee. I can only recommend that everyone try out one of Munich's true gems. read more

Sehr schade read more

We just love your Cupcakes :-) - Cupcakes empfehlen sich auch als Geschenk!!! read more

Ehrlich ich habe schon bessere gegessen. read more
