This race ROCed! Warning: if you're running in the afternoon wave wear sunscreen, the burn is no joke! The obstacles were all easier than I thought, except for the bouncy balls (the station where you have to bounce on gigantic red balls to get across). No one on my team made it across. Race is packed, unlike other reviews there were no more than 3 people in front of us at each course. I felt this event was well organized, RSVP early.

Team I'm on a Bender!!

An opportunity to dress up in costume and run through silly obstacle courses? I'm in! Team themes included Charlie Sheen's House Party (the team threw baby powder while running haha), Team Dirty Sanchez, Troll Dolls (well done with the hair-do's), and an honorable mention to my team, I'm on a Bender (Futurama)! The obstacle courses weren't as challenging as I would have liked. Aubrey D. was scared to sign up but she'll tell you it wasn't that bad! I thoroughly enjoyed the fire poles, rope swing, and the slip & slide course into the mud pit (wear old gear because you're bound to get dirty in this race). I'd also recommend a change of clothes/shoes afterwards so you don't have to wear soaked gear to the ROC Fest . What better way to finish a race than to pick up your free beer and join the human tunnel and conga line to the beats of live music? All in all, I thought the first annual ROC race was a success! I'd want more signs directed to the start of the race because quite a few of us didn't know where we were going. If you're going for a good finish time, keep in mind there are often lines to get on an obstacle but you can ask people to cut since you're racing ;) If you've ever wanted to be on American Gladiators this is your chance!

I was on the hunt for a ropes course for my sister's bachelorette weekend for MONTHS. I couldn't find one that was 1) in the area 2) in our price range and 3) open on July 4th. Not a single one. And then I received an e-mail that UCSD would open up their challenge course for us...a bunch of ladies (and two gentlemen!) who did not know what we were getting ourselves into for a couple hours on a Saturday morning. We only did the highs-only course that was 50 ft up in the air. This included walking on wires, jumping across platforms, upper body strength, and ziplining...to name a few. I know it's not the typical "bachelorette" extravaganza, but I wanted something thrilling and adventurous that we could all participate in together. That's exactly what this challenge course does; it tests your limits and helps to strengthen collaboration, but most importantly, it's FUN! I, personally, was not frightened by the height or tasks we had to do, but it was definitely exhilarating on another level (no pun intended.) I write this review with a profound gratitude for this company because they exceeded my expectations. THANK YOU for giving us a reasonable price per person (every other company I called was $3000-4000 for a group of 12,) being open just for us on a holiday, and integrating such vibrant personalities to lead us through the course. I wish we could have tried things like Leap of Faith, etc., but perhaps there's always another time! I think I've found a new hobby. :)

Everyone in my group enjoyed the course regardless of how far they were able to go. Gilbert and Emily were awesome instructors and made everything easygoing and fun. It might seem terrifying for those who have a fear of heights, but I can guarantee that they'll look back on how fun it was once they're able to conquer the obstacles. My arms are dead from latching onto the ropes with a death grip and I know I'll feel this tomorrow, but I'm sure the fun memories will last even longer.

It was quite an emotional rollercoaster in a good way because you learn a lot of skill sets that would be very helpful not only for that moment but also for the rest of your life that our team enjoyed every single bit of it. The program is well thought and structured very well. If you think you're only going through the rope course, think again since there are way more extraordinary things ahead of you. Broad your horizon and come take the course. You won't regret it! Thank you once again for the incredible experience and day to Shawn and Morgan! We were very grateful that both of you were with us every step of the way. I strongly recommend to everybody. For the rope course, the harness and claws are provided so bring your gloves. It can be a little bit chilly during winter especially when you get up the structure so wear warm clothes and sneakers to be comfortable moving.

Obstacles include the "inflatable mattress" with holes, swinging giant balls, pit with loose 5+ feet balls, a bunch of obstacles where you climb up one side and slide down the other, an 'over, under, over' obstacle, etc. You run from the start point, to the pier, and then U turn and run back. You are released (to run, jog, dance, walk, etc.) in waves. I think it was half hour increments based on the wave you signed up for. They offered cups of water at a couple points in the 5k. At the end, they gave you a finisher's T-shirt, medal, bottled water and a banana. Pros: - LOTS of fun - Not scary even for someone deathly afraid of heights (good for the whole family) - Finisher's medal - Friends and family can take pictures of you throughout the entire course. Nothing is closed off. Cons: - Had to pay full price for parking - They advertise that there'd be a photographer there taking pictures, but they only captured people from the first wave. - Can't wear shoes on *some* of the obstacles, but on the website they gave the impression that you can wear them, so a lot of people kept having to take off their shoes and put them back on or just carried them. (I left mine in the car because I saw the hassle the people before me went through.)
