I recently decided to open a bank account with this bank while looking around for a new bank to use. For the past year, I had been banking with Sofi which at first seemed like an excellent option and it was. There online digital platform was easy to navigate. There are a ton of features you could use to help keep you on track financially, but with different bills or payers I had outgoing as I would pay via the website of whatever vendor/merchant I bought from, my payments would post much later which made banking difficult. Chase bank is easy to work with and quite professional but I wasn't looking for a bank that charges any fees or needs a specific minimum deposit amount. For Wintrust they do require a $100 minimum deposit which I saw someome mention in another review below, but I felt grateful that I was able to get assistance with that from family.
It seemed like a good option since it is a physical brick and mortar bank that is close by to where I reside, has a good digital banking platform that seems easy to navigate, and is well integrated/utilized into the Chicago community. For example, I think they are a bank sponsor or affiliated woth many Chicago sports teams. They also have nice designs for their credit/debit cards, like one design has a cute puppy and kitten on it. I ultimately went with the card that has the Chicago skyline on it because I wanted to be a bit more grown up and mature even though my go to would have been the cute baby animals one:) was going to try Chime bank because they offer incentives (which Wintrust does as well if you set up your direct deposit) but it's not a physical bank and God forbid I needed to resolve something in person, it is better to have a physical location to go to in that regard.
Wintrust seems professional, modern, and up to date interior wise ag this location. As per the other reviews, it was another physical store before it became a bank. It was very slow and quiet the day I went, not a lot of foot traffic as it was towards the end of the day on a Thursday but that made the experience that much easier and quicker. A very nice gentleman named Caleb assisted me as the other bank tellers/administrative people were out for the day. Coincidentally, at the same time, the bank actually called me (Gabrielle who was very sweet) assisted me in taking a hold off my account because they thought there was a security issue with it but there wasn't. The security guard that was present there was also very kind as well and greeted me warmly with a smile. I feel bad that I didn't get his name as I usually like to do that just to guve people credit when they deserve it for great customer service. I was able to make a deposit into my account easily in person at the counter. I did have some issues after opening the account online but that was because the current bank I use, some outgoing bills I have deducted funds immediately from my account thus rendering me with insufficient funds because the money that was in my sofi account that was meant to be deposited or transferred from sofi to wintrust, it got used to pay automatic payments for bills I have currently outgoing. So lesson learned there. Either way, it brings me peace of mind to know that Wintrust takes account security very seriously and they also provide highly personalized service. read more
