After about 2 years away, time for an update. I go here…read morefrequently for the driving range. It's open more often than Fort Mill Golf Club just 4 miles away. Today I played the front nine with a 130p tee time, it was 87 degrees and 60% humidity so it was not ideal weather but not unbearable for just 9 holes. Even though Hurricane Debby had blown through four days before dropping 4 inches of rain in Fort Mill, it had dried quickly and conditions were good. It was cart path only on the #5 hole. Built in 2001 and designed by Clyde Johnston, this is the most updated and modern of all the 4 Leroy Springs courses. It's a challenging course which will test your mid-iron game requiring strategic strategy off the tee and approach shots. They have GPS on all the electric carts, a nice large driving range where you can hit off grass and mats as well as a designated chipping area with a small bunker and a large putting green. Really nice ProShop for all the golf gear including mens & women's clothes, shoes, gloves, hat's, belts, towels and a wide selection of golf ball brands. Nice snack bar at the turn with good menu options and a large dining room. You can also use an App called 'birdie' to advance order from the snack bar. The only downsides are the lack of water coolers along the holes and there is only one bathroom on the front nine. Hole #5 is perpetual cart path only. There is no beverage cart, even at the height of the hottest summer days. Many green side bunkers creating side hill & uneven lies.

Today, I was able to use my GolfNow discount app for a $35 afternoon tee time. It was so smooth and easy, I just gave my name and the tee time and he confirmed the time and that it was pre-paid. The course is better than average. The fairways are in excellent condition as are most of the greens. There were several tee boxes that were a little ragged. I really like the way the course played. The fairways are wide open and there is very little water that comes into play. There is a driving range on-site as well as a putting area. A little interesting that there are no holes on the practice putting surface, they use markers with weighted bottoms that you can move around on the putting surface. The carts were clean and worked well and there is plenty of parking. It will be interesting to see what Mr Tepper does if anything to change or update this course.

As a frequent player at Waterford I felt it necessary to leave a review…read more The only good thing about Waterford are the greens. The rest of the course is not worth the $85+ they now charge. Par 3 tee boxes have no grass, literally hitting off sand, cart paths are awful, fairway and rough are the worst I have ever seen them, the cups and bunkers are touched once maybe twice a week during prime season and the driving range is a total disaster (waiting for the "top tracer" experience). Spend your money else where in my opinion.

So many young people, junior golfers with their parents, couples, seniors and even super seniors. This course has close to 400 members and stays booked all the time. Even so the Super and the crew do a fantastic job of keeping this course in top shape. The greens are exceptional, running fast and true they are always a challenge. This week I experienced a first. I was standing on the hill beside the fairway bunker on the right about 140 yards out. On the green, I saw what I thought was a head cover. My approach shot landed right beside it and all of a sudden it starts moving. That's no headcover and as I got closer, I realized it was a massive Snapping Turtle. It's been weeks since a rain and in a drought this guy somehow got off his path and was looking for some water. From my pic you can see Eric, the Ranger with a sand rake trying to get him into the near by creek. We don't get Gators in the upland but we sure get some big Snappers!

Fort Mill Golf Club has a decent course layout and has solid practice facilities even though you…read morehit off mats mostly. The course is not hard, but does have challenging holes. The greens are normally well kept but slow compared to others in the area. Hole 2 is one of my favorite in the area because of the risk/reward and how the water on the right and large tree on the left force you to make a great drive. Hole 12 is my least favorite in all of Charlotte for its lack of a decent landing area anywhere on the hole. Unfortunately, the cart GPS system seriously takes away from the experience. The GPS system is overly restrictive and frustrating. The carts often stop abruptly and force you to reverse to blaring beeping, even in spots that aren't near greens or any sensitive areas. Many holes run side by side, and you should be able to access your ball quickly, but the GPS won't let you. It slows down play considerably. I understand protecting the course is important, but the way this system is set up just doesn't make sense. It creates longer rounds and leaves players annoyed. I've experienced this on multiple visits this year, and I've heard the same feedback from others.

Read my review before you see 4 stars and expect Pinehurst…read more I played my second round at Pinetuck today. I love it. It serves a purpose. I live 30 minutes away and both times I have gone there, I have rolled right in without a t time and have been on the 1st tbox in 5 minutes and have played 3 hour rounds, only because I have taken extra time and hit multiple shots on some holes. It's $30, not $75-80 like seemingly everywhere. Don't think it will look like a $75 greens fee course, it doesn't. Now here's the thing....it's all about expectations. The course is not in good shape, in fact pretty bad in some spots but I know that and I'm personally ok with it. I feel about 50% of the course layout is actually spectacular. There are many beautiful holes and I can see the potential if it were maintained better. There are barely any houses on the course, most of the course is in the woods, but not super narrow, still some room to miss. To me, it's perfect to relax, get away from life for a few hours, destress and get some thinking done. It's practice golf, get out there and hit it around a bit, hit a couple of tshots if you like, there is probably not going to be a rush. If your ball is in a bad lie, just move it. You can't be Johnny rule book here. You won't need your sand wedge either cause there isn't any sand left in the bunkers, funny to me there are still rakes though. Sure, it would be nice if the greens were a little more true and the t boxes were in a bit better shape but I'm not breaking par this year so for twice the price of an XL range bucket where I live, I can practice on the course without the pressure of having to worry about keeping up the pace. I'm sure there are days with more golfers but I have timed my rounds well I guess. If I want the full golf experience with some buddies, we won't come here. For me, it's about trying to get better and I have an appreciation for a place that I can go to for 30 bucks. If you want a nicely manicured, bright green course, greens mowed daily, perfect tboxes, nice smooth carts and paths, food and beverage options, etc., then don't go here, this is not going to meet your expectations. Save yourself the disappointment. I like those places too but sometimes I find taking golf a little less serious is a nice change of pace. Your choice!
