The announcer was fun, lively and great at getting the audience involved. I'd never seen pig racing, think horse racing on a tiny track...but with pigs. The Fearless Flores family was awesome too. The best way to describe them is...fearless...and talented, entertaining and super friendly. The fair offered a lot of food and drink vendors so there was plenty of selection. All fair type foods but that is what we like. Additionally, there were a variety of rides to entertain adventure seekers if all ages and risk capacities. :-) On our first evening there, there was not a lot of people which was nice. On night two the lines were long but the vendors, carnies, etc. had their game tight and lines were glowing. I'm excited for next year. See you there!

The admission price and the ticket price really suck. it's more expensive than ever. My 2 year old was denied entry into a bird exhibit, you need a ticket. I bought a wrist band for myself with no plans for anything beyond what my 2 year old wanted to do and it was not enough for them. seems pretty damned greedy if you ask me. Also, card system was down. Honestly, you should just charge everyone the same price for admission, keep the tickets for the bigger rides, and give the 5 and under crowd a bit of a price break.

This year I especially enjoyed a sweet lady selling adorable baby gowns, baby blankets, bags, decorative towls, hats, and etc... I bought an adorable gown for my daughter, a couple decorative towels, and a really cute and soft baby blanket for a friend about to have a baby. My son really wanted a rubber band gun. Unfortunately the vendor selling them was sold out. If you really want something buy it because this is a popular festival and the vendors may sell out of some items. The pumpkin vendors are very kind and will hold your pumpkin purchase with your name on it so you don't have to tote it around. They have civil war reenactors that tell stories. It's very interesting and great for families that are into educational outings. They also have many other people in period clothing talking about how various things used to be done. We didn't see everything this year but we always highly enjoy the festival. I definitely recommend the Ames Plantation Heritage Festival to everyone seeking something to do especially families. It is only one day a year so we always make sure to check the calendar ahead of time to keep that day free.

The Ames Plantation was originally named Cedar Grove by its original owner John W. Jones who had settled there in the 1820s. The large cotton plantation was one of the most productive in the area. I hadn't been to the plantation in years. I've never visited this Plantation as a tourist. I've only come here when a family member passes away and is buried here at the Old Jones Cemetery. But I will say, it amazes me how they have kept the plantation intact after all these years. When I was a child, I saw workers (sharecroppers or indentured servants) working those cotton fields and it was the strangest site. I didn't see any workers this trip, but one thing was clear during my drive to and from the Ames Plantation, cotton is still king in this part of the state.
