The Winston Churchill School is located in St. Johns, Woking and not in Knaphill. The only secular semi-selective state school in the area, a small portion of Winston's pupils are given places at the school as a result of sitting academic entrance exams, or musical examinations and interviews. Places at this school are often in demand due to the higher quality of teaching, and relatively good exam results produced.
The staff range from young, invigorating teachers to the more established, traditional figures who have been around much longer and have greater experience. The headteacher, David Smith, has received mixed results since his arrival in 2001, but is generally perceived as supportive of his school.
Recently re-decorated, the buildings vary in age from the newer modern foreign languages block, to the much older science tower that dominates the school. Many areas of the school are painted in bright colours such as red or purple. read more
