The sushi bar is good for grocery store sushi. The bakery is really good but the one on power is better and bigger. Seafood department and meat are always fresh and reasonably priced. They have a butcher in house that will do cuts if you ask. They sell live and cooked crawfish.

I went to the store in Algiers and they didn't offer the family pack of the same item, only 1/4 pack and the price was close to $6. I went to the Gretna store and their prices matched Vets prices. Very odd. In all the stores, I've been to, there's always one cashier and no self checkout stations except in Marrero. Overall, it's a pretty good place to shop for certain items but you're certainly not going to find your beloved Cajun foods or spices here.

It's like an abandoned zombie apocalypse just happened. At this Walmart they have their own pharmacy and vision center, in addition to the rest of the madness. You can also rent a movie on Redbox. I found my Fisherman's Friend cough drops and I was on my way. A Walmart is a Walmart is a Walmart. If you know one, you know them all.

I am so tired of going to these businesses spending my hard earned money,and be treated like something you step on because I'm white.Saturday night about 8:10 I went to grab a couple things 2to be exact.this young black girl who apparently thought she was to cute to work! There was only one self checkout that excepted cash and no other cashier line open.I had to wait for this lady who was very slow,I was patient waiting which was taking awhile.in the meantime a white man behind me is paying with card so proceeded to open self checkout,but he has alcohol so this rascist cashier had to walk 5 feet to swipe a card but not without an attitude at that! Then I'm still waiting she goes back and plays on her phone ignoring me .now I only have 2 items,then a black lady walks up behind me and immediately she helps her ringing her up herself,and I'm like are you kidding me,still no acknowledging me what so ever.so now I'm still waiting the Spanish lady in front of me card declined so she had to walk another five feet with her attitude to clear the screen again not acknowledging me.finally finally I was able to runout my two items and I'm mad at this point so I'm just waiting to get eye contact but no she starred down at her phone!!!! This is ridiculous I mean seriously is it ok to be racist towards other races but not anyone black is this the world we live in that you want to be treated fairly but not treat others that way? What happened to this Rouses?…read more I've lived Uptown for nearly 20 years, so I'm well acquainted with the particular adventure that is grocery shopping in New Orleans. Our options have never exactly been endless, and with Winn-Dixie closing, they're getting slimmer. That makes it all the more frustrating to watch a neighborhood grocery store we actually depend on decline like this. And to be clear: I'm comparing this Rouses only to other Rouses. I've probably shopped at 10 or more locations around Louisiana, MS, and AL...and the Tchoupitoulas store is in a league of its own... The biggest issue is the overall condition of the store. It just feels tired, run-down, and not particularly clean. On my most recent visit, the men's restroom was genuinely awful: a visibly soiled toilet and...uh... a liquid...covering much of the floor that was very clearly not from a round of mopping. The checkout belts were dirty, too, and the floors and aisles rarely seem especially fresh or well maintained. The customer service can be equally rough around the edges. A few days ago, I couldn't figure out where to return my hand basket because there wasn't a stack of baskets at either entrance (there never is... and I don't usually need a whole cart; so I have to go to a checkout lane and search beneath the belt to find a basket). After shopping and paying, I left the basket I eventually found at the corner on the floor by customer service counter, which seemed like a reasonably civilized solution. An employee then mumbled a complaint about where I'd left it under her breath, but with the impressive vocal projection necessary to make absolutely certain I heard it. Mind you, I'd had to ask her for it off the end of the bagging area she was standing at when I walked in because it was the only one I could find. It was a small thing, but pretty representative of the atmosphere. And again, this isn't some sweeping indictment of Rouse's employees everywhere. I've been to other locations (including Morgan City) where the staff are consistently friendly and helpful but the store is also. Errr... in need of investment. That makes the difference here even more noticeable. The store is also frequently out of ingredients I'm looking for. In fairness, I can't pin that entirely on this location. Trying to find one specific ingredient in a New Orleans grocery store has always involved a certain amount of faith, perseverance, and occasionally driving to Metairie. Frequently at grocery rush hour (~5pm on weekdays) the lines are overly long when only 2-3 lanes are open. The few employees there don't seem thrilled to be there, either. Like okay, I get it, maybe that's not their dream job, either, but also maybe it has to do with corporate or management's culture? The person shopping with me on my latest visit, with absolutely no prompting from me, walked out and said: "Wow, that was worse than Walmart." I don't come to Yelp often to complain (in fact usually to boost a store or restaurant), and I'm not writing this just to pile on. This is a key neighborhood grocery store serving a large part of Uptown, particularly as other nearby options disappear. It badly needs some investment, better upkeep, and a general refresh to bring it in line with the quality of other Rouses locations. Uptown deserves a better version of this store...and frankly, so does Rouse's.

This particular store has an amazing "hot bar" as well as salads one can construct on their own. The hot bar has an extremely wide selection of choices, including chicken, fish, sausages, potatoes, soups and stews. They load the bar up early, and the location was across the street from where I was staying, so I headed over for some breakfast to take out (there are also some tables outdoors). I went back several times during my stay. This was my regular store when I lived down here, got totaled by Katrina (me too) and it took some years to come back. Now better and bigger than ever. I always stop on my way out of town, to stock up on my favorite local foods that I can't get in the snow belt. By the way, it's pronounced RO-berr (silent "t').

I appreciate the wine and delicacies (née cheese) section as well as the fridge section here to Mid-City. I much prefer the parking in Mid-City to Uptown and that's a big deal, as in, even if I'm in the area and need to stop at WF for produce, oat milk, wine and nostalgia, I'll more often than not talk myself out of it because I hate that parking garage that much. The last time I stopped in, I had taralli on the brain and knew that I wouldn't likely find that at most Rouses, no less the far more conveniently-located food co-op that's in my neighborhood. And of course I found a decent variety, as well as a bunch of other goodies my regular Mid-City location does not have. Back to the parking lot. It's bad enough, people. At the very least, bring your cart back inside so that the next person doesn't have to move it before parking, which blocks the entire area and annoys the other cars waiting to park. You know this happens. Don't be that person.

The price on the shelf is their price, PLUS they add a 10% surcharge at the end of the checkout (before tax) for their profit. I'm used to this concept so it's cool with me. The inside has been totally remodeled. The bakery and deli have been removed and a large wine/beer area, dump bins for deals, floor space for pallets of special buys and large purchases (like patio umbrellas), and clearance items. Produce is fresh and looks good. You never know what you might find in the front bins of "while they last" items. For example, I scored a great deal on cheap reading glasses, 25 sq ft of parchment paper ($1.39), next to a bin with chocolate covered cherries and another one with children & women's t-shirts for 91 cents. They carry brands we have had to go out of town to buy (Skinner pasta) and other local items I haven't seen. They don't have everything, but they have enough that I don't have to cross Lapalco or the GNO to get what I need. Hours are 7A-9P 7 days a week. When they first opened there was an abundance of cashiers; now they've pared it back to a reasonable number and the manager steps into a register as needed. No baggers; bag your own. There is a rewards program and digital coupons you can load on your phone. They focus a lot on their generic brands (Best Choice), which so far has been just as satisfying as the name brand. Our fav finds are the Pork Stuffing mix (compare to Stove Top) which has more flavor and is currently 85 cents/box. They also have an inexpensive brand of chip with a German-Style flavor - SO tasty! We also enjoy their brand of soda, which seems to have more carbonation. The only drawback so far is they haven't figured out what's selling and what's not, so it's a what's staying and what's going game right now. I also haven't figured out how/when they are restocking, but I don't think they have either. But we're a new state for them; they'll figure it out. Wide aisles and friendly staff. Their pharmacy is open 6 days a week and they were quick to answer my questions as well; they take most insurance. It's worth a visit - you might even get hooked. :)
