We ordered wings and loaded fries, and food came up relatively quickly. From what I understand, the kitchen guy was new. It showed in the fries, which were cooked but not crispy at all. It was like eating a loaded baked potato... not bad, but not fries. (They took them off the bill- thank you!). The wings were good and varied in size, though of our 10 Buffalo wings only one was a drumstick. I like flats so it was okay with me, but odd. We later ordered 10 more wings and my wife said she liked the Lemon-Pepper seasoning. They have happy hour specials from 5-8 which is nice, though three items were out by the time we arrived. I would have loved to try their maple-bacon wings but they had no maple syrup. In the room next door was a pool table and it might be fun to play sometime if we come back.

New owners, new review…read more There was an everchanging group of friends who would gather weekly, prior to Covid, on a Friday evening at an establishment down the street from the Washington Tavern (better known as WT's to regulars) for a drink or two. Once a year on the Saturday before the St. Patrick's Day parade these friends would shift to WT's for what was known as "corned beef day." With new ownership of WT's it was about time that a call was put out to those friends to reunite. WT's was now the ideal place. Arriving on a Thursday at 4:30 we quickly realized that they didn't open until 5PM. They were kind enough to let us have a seat inside until the bar and kitchen were open and operational. They were not aware of our planned gathering so I will not nitpick about any service. In fact, the bartender who also acted as our server did a miraculous job handling the drinks and separate-check food orders for what grew to about 15 people in the backroom by the kitchen. Kitchen staff also did a wonderful job of getting the food out in a respectable time for our unexpected gathering at the start of their day. All the food I saw coming to our table looked inviting - wings; smashburgers; flatbreads; and someone's salad. I had a pint of Guinness with a Southern Smash burger ($16). There was plenty of flavor and a mix of textures as I took my first bite into the soft roll surrounding the smashed beef patty, a crunchy onion ring, fresh leaf lettuce, sliced tomato, American cheese, and a sweet BBQ sauce. Even the pickle spear on the side was tasty. A true surprise was what I believe were house-made potato chips - so crunchy with an herbed dusting that escapes me but helps to make them addictive. The meat sauce seems to keep the obligatory warmth of nutmeg and cinnamon, but has a delicate spice that absolutely delights in its own way. The mac salad lights up my tongue with the zest of celery and the home fries give me the crunch that I deserve. The burgers are the greasy vessel that I have come to expect, but offer much more cohesion than a typical plate. I am barely exaggerating when I say this might be Top 2 plates of my lifetime. Yes, the food was delicious and plentiful, but connecting with Yelpers was one of the biggest highlights of that event. So, I know it's taken us long enough to come back but it was truly better late than never because they did not disappoint. We settled on their brisket sando and three sides - pit beans, mac & cheese, potato salad. The brisket was tender and juicy, potato salad wholesome and egg-y, pit beans sweet and spicy, and m&c mac & cheesy. While they don't have French fries, they have homemade kettle chips which I'm generally not enthused about but the ones here had a softer finish and I rather enjoyed them. Oh, and an honourable mention is due to the comfy chairs which are extremely hard to come by in restaurants. One minor (but non-negligible) gripe was the rather long wait before we could place our orders because the staff right in front of us insisted on packing a big online order AND serving the folks picking them up drinks before we could put our orders in. I personally would have taken the order of someone in line especially since there was no one behind us, so that the kitchen staff can start filling our orders while the staff at the register can return to finishing packing the pickup order. I wish I could make them that good at home, but I don't access to the BBQ scraps that they have. The mac and cheese was dense and creamy, and the pasta was not at all overcooked. I really appreciated this. The Bad: - seating is limited, and it is quite likely during a busy time you will get your food before a table is open. Why do they limit the number of tables they have when there is space for more? That doesn't make sense. - the pulled pork was just meh. It tasted flat, the texture was pure mush, and the color was a bit odd. Frankly, I make it better at home. This reminded me of crockpot pulled pork with a bit more smoke flavor. It too was served sauce on the side. - when our food was served it was covered with complimentary red pickled onions. Yuck! Apparently they sometimes ask in advance but they might forget when busy. Thankfully, since they didn't ask and made the wrong assumption they were willing to remake my plate without onions. - no cheap drinks. No cheap anything really. Imported soda, exotic Fiji brand water, etc. Their prices are very high for some things. They make great food, but you might get hit with $25/person or more before the smoke settles. Was it worth it? For some stuff yes, and for other things no. We had a good time, and I know better what to focus my order on in the future. But to go at dinner time when there might not be a table to enjoy your food is a real bummer.

They have the usual pub fare like burgers, sandwiches and salads and some Mexican style options like nachos and jalapeño poppers. Lots of draft selections including Fiddlehead, a personal favorite. The dine in seating away from the bar was relaxed and comfortable. I wasn't expecting much given the atmosphere but the food was very good. The salad I had was nice with romaine lettuce and an assortment of veggies. Mom enjoyed their burger. Reasonable prices. I'd gladly return here now that I've been introduced to its understated charm.
