We ordered a total of five dishes, and our top favorites were spicy beef with tofu, stir-fried eggplant, potato & pepper, and sweet & sour pork.

Review: dinner with vegetarian options…read more Bottomline: food is on point and authentic, whether it be vegetarian or not. It's unfortunate that this restaurant is not easily accessible. Atmosphere: I've frequented this restaurant even before they moved near Dalhousie station. When I went to check out their new digs, I was truly lost and confused. I didn't realize that they had moved to the basement of a commercial complex. Access is not easy because there is no elevator. The flight of stairs makes it difficult for people less mobile. Otherwise, the place is clean and decorated traditionally with Chinese lanterns and such. But unlike other traditional Chinese restaurants, service is great and very friendly. Food: great authentic Chinese food. Sweet and sour pork was awesome here. So was the fried duck with taro. Both were fried to perfection and batters were light. Veggie options were fantastic as well. The diced pineapple veggie ham fried rice had good "wok hay" (where the heat of the wok gets so hot it transfers the wok taste to the rice) and the fried egg plant with salted egg yolk was very flavorful. Value: average for the quality and type of food. Portions were reasonable.

They were deep-fried, was no flavour or sauce, and they were all gristle and fat those when in the garbage. It was all disgusting. There was no trace of meat -if I did find any in any of the meat dishes, it was just crumbs. It was all bland. The shrimp dish was watered down couldn't even taste the sauce it waslike yellow food colouring, and it was so full of celery. All I could taste was celery - so disgusting. The Shanghai noodle dish had all these mushrooms in. There was no meat maybe 1 piece of cabbage, again bland, just terrible. They don't put meat i. the meat dishes!!. The sauces were watered down. There was no flavor. I was so disgusted with that type of money I spent and everything was terrible , I would never eat here or buy their food again. People have gone too far trying to cut cost and save money to the point that you're spending $18 on one dish and you can't even find a piece of meat in a meat dish.? all cheap noodles and cheapest veggies and no flavour. I think restaurants need to reevaluate their priorities and what they're serving people if they want to be successful.

We happened to arrive during their "happy hour" so we got some "linner" prices. Hubs ordered the house special tossed noodle. He liked it cuz he felt it was authentic. He liked the fried garlic that added an extra kick. I had the bbq roast duck noodle soup cuz I was wanting some comfort food. I was impressed with the roast duck that was not fatty and the little bit of onion helped accent the flavor of the soup. Hubs especially the duck sauce which he thought was strong but once you get used to it he said it brought out the flavor of the duck. The service and ambiance was your typical chinese restaurant. Nothing great, nothing bad, nothing to be expected. I would definitely come back if I was in the area and craving chinese food.

I genuinely regret spending my money at this establishment. Given the $30 per person price tag, the…read moreshockingly low quality of food presentation, dining environment, and hygiene is completely unacceptable. Let's talk about the food. I understand that woo samgyeop (brisket) is typically served frozen and rolled at Korean BBQ spots, but the plating here was incredibly lousy. They just threw all kinds of meat randomly onto a cheap steel plate. It honestly looked like pet food or leftover from someone else's table. If you are charging $30 a head, put some effort into the presentation! Places like Gen BBQ know how to plate their meats properly, and there are so many simple ways this place could improve. The kalbi (short ribs) was just as insulting. It arrived in tiny, unappetizing pieces that looked like abandoned corner scraps from a butcher's block. Seeing those meats served to me gave me zero appetite, and what we did manage to cook was so heavily over-marinated that we could barely finish it. While the servers themselves were generally kind, the dining experience was a disaster. At one point, a staff member was cleaning the adjacent table, which was only separated from ours by a perforated shield. She carelessly sprayed the cleaning liquid right through the holes, splashing chemicals directly onto me while I was eating. To make matters infinitely worse, we found not one, but two bugs right on our table. I dine out all the time and have never encountered such a hygiene issue at a KBBQ spot. To top off this miserable night, I ended up spending a good amount of time in the restroom afterward--I'll spare you the details, but it was awful.

My absolute fave dish is the Broccoli and Snow Peas. The garlic sauce is to die for! Palace Style Chicken is always a winner too - good quality meat and lots of it in a lightly spicy sweet sauce accompanied by water chestnuts. I tried their Singapore Noodles once because they really don't have an awesome selection of noodle dishes and I loved them! They are curry flavor with lots of veggies and meat in them. My family didn't like them much, though, so I likely don't get to have them again. They have a HUGE menu with tons of authentic items on it, like Duck and Moo Shu and tons of seafood too. We typically order takeout, but for special occasions we go to the dining room and we've always had great service.

They serve a special type of beef hot pot called ChaoShan Hot Pot (潮汕火鍋) - every part of beef are carefully sliced to allow eaters to enjoy each part of the beef to its fullest. I was at the restaurant during weekday mid afternoon. It was a bit quiet as we are recovering through COVID. The servers are very enthusiastic and have great knowledge about their beef. I ordered a combo to start as it provides me with sample platter of all common beef cuts. The services were very quick. Within minutes, I am served with a clear beef bone soup for hot pot, vegetables, beef balls, tendon, and different cuts of beef in hot pot slices. The cut mainly consists of sirloin, flank, cheek, shank, chuck, rump, and tongue. I can assure you, every bite takes you to a whole new adventure! Starting from the flank, this is the piece where one side is fat and the other is the meat layer. But don't let the layer of fat hold you back, the flavour is smooth yet the soft texture of beef is present. Next is the cheek, this is a prized piece with a soft tender chew, which makes it my favourite piece. The shank consist of two parts- fore shank and hind shank. They are both as good, but I personally prefer the hind shank because it has a softer texture than the fore shank. The chuck has three parts - chuck, chuck rib, and chuck flap. The texture of chuck flap and chuck might have a bit of a chew due to the tendon, but the way it is sliced thinly makes it a delightful cut to enjoy. There are other cuts of beef which I wont explain and will leave it for you to discover. This is a decent portion and a great opportunity for you to try all the different cuts. I highly recommend this place to others. It might be a bit pricey as all dishes are a la carte or combo. But the fact that their beef are fresh daily and never frozen. They maintain the quality standard of meat and you will likely get addicted to it. At least I am!
