Cook Out - Homewood, Alabama Visit Date: Thursday, July 23,…read more2026 (approximately 8:20 p.m.) I finally gave Cook Out a try while visiting the Birmingham/Homewood area. The service was relatively friendly, and our total for four meals and drinks came to $31.56, which is certainly inexpensive by today's standards. Here's what we ordered: * Big Double Burger - $4.39 (plus $1.00 for bacon, $0.55 for cheese, and $0.10 for tomato) * Small Burger - $3.39 * Three Strip Snack - $4.99 * 2 Dog Tray - $7.99 * Large drinks - $2.49 each The burgers were definitely the highlight. The patties had a nice chargrilled flavor that set them apart from a typical fast-food burger. My only complaint is that they're on the small side, even the double burger. The hot dogs were average at best. Nothing really stood out, and I wouldn't order them again. The biggest disappointment was the sides. The tray includes sides, but they are VERY small. My order of onion rings consisted of only five small onion rings, which was pretty underwhelming. The coleslaw actually tasted good, but again, the serving was tiny. To be fair, the prices do reflect what you get, so I wasn't expecting huge portions. If you're looking for an inexpensive meal, Cook Out delivers decent value. Overall, I'd probably come back for one of the chargrilled burgers, but I would definitely skip the hot dogs and keep my expectations in check when it comes to the sides. Three stars feels about right.

I received my order at 10 pm and all of the food items were wrong I also received a cup of tap water despite the order board displaying "bottled water" as the water drink option. I parked and walked inside to get things sorted. The cashier at the counter was very attentive, apologetic and quickly righted things. She informed me that they had a lot of new employees and were still working things out. I appreciate her honesty and efficiency! Had it not been for her this would have easily been a 1-star review. It seems Cookout is the place for high schoolers to hang out on summer nights. Upon exiting the building there were several large groups of kids standing about & sitting at the outdoor tables. And the drive thru lines were both packed out by the time I got back to my car. Overall, I wished I had stopped somewhere else.

Parking is primarily street parking in the area, but there is also a public parking deck nearby. I'm unsure what the current cost is for the deck, but it's worth knowing if you're visiting during a busier time. I ordered the fish tacos with black beans and chose the cheese grits as my second side. Everything tasted fresh and had lots of flavor. The real star of the meal, though, was the sweet potato cake. It was incredibly moist and delicious. Honestly, I could've eaten four of them without shame or hesitation. My colleagues ordered burgers and fries. They both really enjoyed their burgers, but neither cared much for the fries. They had also requested a couple additional items after the food arrived, but those items never made it to the table. The decor is bright and fun, though it didn't quite seem to match the style of food being served. Just my personal observation. They also have a robot that helps deliver the food alongside the servers, which felt a little unexpected for the casual atmosphere and southern comfort food vibe. They were fairly busy since it was lunchtime on a Friday, but the wait really wasn't bad at all. Would I go back? Yes. Was it my absolute favorite? No. But there were definitely things I enjoyed, especially that sweet potato cake that nearly made me consider ordering dessert first next time.

I than asked why wasn't I given a large in which I paid for. The manager stated because they ran out of large. After he said that he left me standing there without resolving the issue. I hate 3rd Ave Burger King that's located in Birmingham, Alabama. They need to shut it down and build an entire different one. This is not acceptable to the everyday hard working people who simply want a great meal done the right way. I should have went another direction. SHUT IT DOWN.. THEY DO NOT CARE FOR ANYONE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED RESPECTFULLY. No star is more appropriate.

Then the sad part is the food isn't piping hot so why are you waiting? Management really needs to get the ish together at this location. If you can't get workers' to take pride and getting orders out quick then what's the purpose of being a fast food restaurant. Is the second time I've been to this location and it will definitely be the last time I come to this location. When it was owned by Magic Johnson it was a little bit better but now it's completely horrible now. I would definitely not stop at this location if you want Burger King.

Al's is right by UAB's campus and serves American and Mediterranean food. Their exterior is nice in theory, with a fountain and a pretty fence, but it needs some cleaning up. Their parking lot could also be better. It's a small lot hidden behind the building with some potholes and invisible parking lines. The interior is quite small, but they still have enough seating. I came in with the intention of trying a vegan menu item, but I was informed by a kind man working behind the desk that he wasn't sure what they had that was vegan. He asked another employee if they had falafel at the moment, but they didn't. He was very helpful, but I was still disappointed that they didn't have falafel since I've tried it before and enjoyed it. I continued to look at the menu and finally decided on the veggie burger. The price was nine dollars and some change, which was baffling to me as I only ordered the burger and nothing else. I only had to wait a couple of minutes for my order, and I took it to go. The burger was packaged with care, large in size, and had plenty of toppings. The burger tasted good and didn't have that weird taste that some vegetarian meat patties have. I really enjoyed the bun of the burger in particular since it was really soft, not soggy, and had lots of sesame seeds. The veggie burger is a pretty good vegetarian option on their menu!

Every staff member that I came in contact with was very pleasant. We dine in and we both ordered the cowboy special (2eggs hash browns or grits and toast or biscuit)with a fried pork chop. Oh! The biscuit was large and fluffy and begged for butter and syrup. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Add your own salt if need be. As we prepared to leave I over heard that there was PEACH cobbler and bread pudding. I absolutely had to try the cobbler and it was phenomenal!!!! Homemade crust no shortcuts. Give them a try.

It was crowded as usual. Mostly for take out orders. I was told to select any table and someone would be with me soon. The owner came over to take my order before I found the salmon patties on the menu. I didn't want to hold him up so I ordered what I normally get at WH minus the waffle. My request for extra cream was taken seriously and I so appreciate it. My coffee cup was refilled often and so was the container of cream when it got low! Since there was a line of cars in the drive thru and many customers ahead of me, I wasn't expecting my order so quickly. However, 17 minutes after I placed my order I had a freshly cooked breakfast in front of me. Grits, bacon, over easy eggs, buttered toast and jelly packets. I poured the grits into the platter, eased the eggs onto the steaming hot grits, sprinkled black pepper over the yolks, spreading the jelly over the requested uncut toast and blessed the meal. The yolks oozing over the platter just right told me the eggs weren't overcooked. The bacon was crispy and cooked straight like I preferred. It's quicker to spread jelly over a whole slice of bread rather than 4 cut pieces. When I looked up from eating there was an entire new collection of customers in line to order. The only complaint I had was I forgot to put my Badia brand Chile & Lime seasoning in the car. It's perfect for times like this when the Grits lack salt and needs seasoning without adding sodium. I understand they can't season the pot like I do at home but dang those grits were bland! Even salted butter would have helped! Those little containers of pretend butter products isn't enough. I hate those things. Give me real butter or nothing at all! So even though I ate my breakfast like I hadn't eaten in a week, I still have two compliments. Bland, unsalted grits and the lack of real butter products upon request. Everything else was on point. My toast was actually "toasted" brown and uncut like I asked. My over easy eggs weren't overcooked cooked but the white part was cooked without any brown. The yolks were running like I like. The bacon was cooked on the grill as my eggs. (I see a guy online serving precooked cold bacon that I would send back). It was crispy and straight! The grits although lacking salt, was steaming hot and not lumpy so almost perfect. My coffee cup was refilled as soon as it was emptied as I waited for my breakfast. I didn't have to continue to wait for more cream, because my server heard me when I asked for extra cream before hand. It's small things like that I appreciate. All in all I enjoyed being able to sit and enjoy a meal without my dog in the car running with the AC on. Or me getting a to go order so I'm not concerned about a hot car. I just remembered I hadn't reviewed my previous experience. I'm in the mood for salmon, rice and biscuit so I'm leaving the dog at home and going to have another meal in their dining room!
