The braised beef curry (21.50 GBP) had tender chunks of beef in a sauce but not too much other than that. I thought it could have benefited from a few more things on the plate. The coconut noodles with chicken (17.50 GBP) was sort of like a pho with the noodles and other ingredients in a flavorful coconut-infused broth. The noodles were cooked well and the chicken was tender. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice with a slightly upscale yet still casual vibe, good for a date or more intimate meal with friends. The staff are pretty friendly and the service speed is decent. Overall, Lahpet is a very good choice if you are looking for a slight twist on ordinary Southeast asian cuisine with a nice environment.

So fun and dynamic to eat, I would definitely order this again. Service was great as well, I feel like the waiters came by just the right amount of times. Didn't feel rushed at all to finish the meal and they even let us overstay once already closed. Definitely curious to try other dishes on the menu

It seemed most customers were here for their desserts (a large & impressive menu) The food menu is small in comparison, but still quite varied. There's s whole section of small plates that work well as sides or starters. I've been itching to try the Burmese fe minted tea leaf salad for awhile, Shan state has it in the menu, but today was not a salad day- so I'll have to go back to try this dish. We had starters of popcorn chicken - lovely, but could be complimented with a dipping sauce. The spicy pork gyoza came with a bit of flavoured soy sauce which worked well for dipping the chicken too. Our mains included the green pork curry - loaded with crunchy veggies and the yellow chicken noodle soup - much milder and softer to eat because everything in it is so tender. We enjoyed sharing these 2 dishes and alternating the textures. The food isn't spicy as you may expect from Asian food, but does have well blended spices, so there's loads of flavour. Desserts were the buns with condensed milk which were very good & peanut coconut balls which are like the Japanese mochi. Sticky glutinous dumplings tossed in a coconut and crushed peanut mixture. I loved it, but the partner wasn't a fan. Their milk teas (lychee & wintermelon) were more like thin milkshakes but very flavourful. And they had popping boba which I love. The space is small and cosy, service was lovely and the food was very satisfying in a way that home cooked meals are. I have to return for the tea leaf salad, but it's also worth popping into for their regular menu.

It's a halal restaurant owned and staffed by Muslims, so neither pork dishes or alcohol are available. It's not that big a deal the food's good but non-meat options are extremely limited too, with just four dishes in the menu's vegetarian list. Although almost any SE Asian dish can be prepared with vegetables and/or a meat substitute by their very accommodating chef, this wasn't clear from the menu. Tofu 'wasn't delivered today' so their one Tofu-based dish wasn't available, so the chef made me an off-menu Thai Red curry with vegetables, which was very good, but not spectacular and at £9.50 (inc rice) seemed expensive, for its location the small stretch of nowhere on Hoe St between the Baker's Arms and Walthamstow, opposite a Tesco garage. Interestingly, a selection of lobster dishes were listed, and I wondered how many customers would shell out £44 to eat crustacea in the E17 hinterland. Decor is interesting but seating is uncomfortable walls artexed in a sand colour to evoke a desert setting, wooden chairs and tables, with benches/booths at the back where it's not quite possible to sit up to the tables because they're solid. Walthamstow has become extremely cosmopolitan, so there's something very apt about a restaurant that's owned by a Burmese guy, staffed by young men from Pakistan, and that serves food from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Burma. I was psyched to discover it as only the two other places I know of Chequers pub in the High St. and a greasy spoon near the bottom of Queens Rd on Markhouse Rd serve Thai food, and not all the time. I rarely drink and I don't eat meat, so at first Thainese seemed like an ideal choice, but its lack of vegetarian choices, uncomfortable seating and high prices for the area wouldn't have me rushing back for dinner. Pad Thai is missing from the menu a plate of this for £6.50 probably would.

I don't think I'll be back, and I wouldn't recommend this unless you were extremely uncultured and didn't know what real Asian food was like. Non-Asian folks may love this place - so take other reviews with a grain of salt (I personally am shocked at how highly rated this place is). The missus rates it lower than me (3/5 from me), so I give this place her rating cuz we were both... very sad about this. Missus and I showed up at 4pm on a Saturday in May. It was hella busy when we arrived, but quickly emptied out after we started getting our food. This place claims its Thai but they only have the spice part down... I doubt this is actually authentic. Maybe it's Southeast Asian inspired?? If anyone else knows please comment. The portion sizes are predictably small, and I don't think we ordered enough for two to be full, even though it was quite pricey (given the portion size). We ordered the rump cap, curry, clay pot, and a lager to drink. Nothing was that memorable - the rump cap was well made but the curry definitely made us question the cultural authenticity of this place. I wouldn't order the curries here - the meat dishes seem decent though. The ambiance in here is definitely loud, since sound carries - any conversation gets amplified and you can hear every word - even the annoying laughs or coughs are at volume 11 (so try to keep your voices down!). There's a background music track but it's faint and you can only barely hear it when anyone is talking. The restaurant layout is very good for communal dining, but really bad for intimate settings. If I were a dating man (I'm not), I wouldn't bring a date here. The service is also extremely slow - from when we ordered to when we got all of our food was roughly 45 min - which, given how hungry we were, and how empty the place was - inexcusable and really disappointing. Note: mandatory 12.5% service charge on top of your meal.
