I've been looking for plants for my small water garden and hit the jackpot at Wingard's. A nice selection of water plants including lilies, grasses and more. The service was outstanding. I had questions about caring for these plants -- repotting, fertilizing, etc. Their expert wasn't in the store, but before I got home (Columbia --30 minutes away), he called to answer my questions. Very nice, very helpful. I also bought some produce (great place for local peaches and tomatoes and more), some frozen meat, and a couple of small gifts. LOVE this place. I'll be back. read more

I made a purchase with plans to pick up the plants the following day. In the meantime, I did not realize that my partner had already made the purchase. I never took possession of the items in question so I called back to tell them they were no longer needed. As per their website as long as they are returned within seven days, they are entitled to a full refund. Harry brought the return policy up and Dolores told me "well there is a restocking fee". Dolores made up her own rules and decided this purchase warranted a 25% restocking fee. Nowhere on their website is that Explained, nor was it explained to me verbally. Be cautious when purchasing. Slight correction Wally as well as Dolores both make up their rules on the fly. Nowhere on their website is this stated but my credit card company is already on it so all is well. read more

Really odd paying experience. The cashier insisted that a phone number was required if I paid with credit card. I asked if I could *not* give my phone number. She refused to accept payment until I gave my phone number. Will be shopping at HD and Lowes from now on. read more

I have reviewed this particular nursery twice. First time was last year where we spent close to $1000. We got two rosebushes, six gardenias, three butterfly bushes, 2 wisteria, 16 Confederate Jasmine, and some fertilizers/food sadly unknowingly there were spider mites, which I have never encountered before. My most recent review was addressed by the owner Wally, who basically called me a liar and said that basically I was full of it. We return the confederate jasmine for two reasons, and not one of them had to do with water as he claimed. The man is a straight up liar! I would not even subject my worst enemy to this nursery. He did not need to spend an additional $500 on little statues, but it was the only thing that we could purchase because we were told that they did not carry dirt we didn't need any more food or fertilizer And they did not have the large containers that we were looking for although they did have a decent selection. It just simply wasn't what we were looking for. He claims that we did not come close to spending $1000 but yet our refund was over $250 for a store credit and we ended up spending double that on the statues. We have a 20 x 20 greenhouse with heat lamps and grill lights and even with two bottles of insecticidal soap and three bottles of neem oil, I was unable to save one of the gardenias. I don't think calling your customers a liar is the best way to do business. Not only do I not recommend this place, but I would go out of my way to steer clear, I wouldn't even subject my ex-husband... That saying something. I'm sure he's going to have an interesting come back to this particular review, in a way, I'm kind a looking forward to it... I always enjoy good humor. Here's the thing, Wally, if you have bad product if you have an issue, just own it instead of lie and blame the customer. It's been five days after posting the pictures of various plants,they denied I purchased.... it's one thing to have bad product but it's another one they just straight up lie. I stand by my review, and would never recommend to anyone, I would go out of my way to steer everyone away from this place. We work hard for the money, and we deserve quality when we're spending it in a small business that is far more expensive than a box store. Sad really. I hope they get their act together soon, but I'm not holding my breath. read more

This is my favorite plant nursery and garden shop in the Columbia area. They have a HUGE selection of plants, bushes, shrubs, flowers, cacti, trees, and more. Their delivery option are very reasonable (I had two large pots and three trees delivered for $30.) Delivery was prompt and the delivery guy even helped me place the trees/pots around the yard. They also have such a wide verity of large and medium sized outdoor pots arranged by color. The general organization of the plants is superb and so easy to navigate, plus the staff are very helpful while not being clingy. I have come back many times. read more

Bought 6 shrubs last year, half of them died. I was told next time bring them back within a year of purchase. Bought 3 more that was last of their inventory. They looked poor so cashier took 10 dollars off each. Two of those died. Took them back and they told me too bad, no refunds on discounted plants. What a precious gift shop! Admittedly, i didn't check out the plant selection, but this is a gem of a shop. Fantastic brands, lots of Lake Murray specific items, but also general gifts. Much larger than it first appears, a kind staff & wonderful product selection (well priced, too!), I'll definitely return next time I'm in the area. read more

I swear this place is magical. I think I may have seen a small unicorn nibbling on a hydrangea bush. Very knowledgeable and friendly, the lady who owns Wingard's (it feels like an old southern home) helped us put together a herb garden centerpiece for a birthday present and took the time to find what was both on sale and fresh. They even potted them for us. They have a huuugggee selection of seasonal plants and flowers and pots and everything you'd ever want for a garden, along with lots of adorable gifts inside. I hope people consider coming here before, say, Lowes. Maybe it was all the extra oxygen floating around, but I just felt happy. Lexington needs more places like this to make it more than just a generic suburb where people sleep and eat. read more

Acre upon acres of plants to buy! Wanted to get a rose bush for my mom for Mother's Day and Wingard's is not too far from my house. They have a great selection of plants to choose from, more so if you were to go to Lowes or Home Depot. Staff is friendly and helpful -- as I am not much of a greenthumb and not sure exactly what I was looking for. One of the employees noticed I was looking confused and directed me to the right area I needed to go to. They always seem to have some gardening event going on. Since I stopped by the Saturday before Mother's Day, it looked like they were going to have a Mother's Day type of event. Since I do not by plants all that often, not sure how their prices compare to other places where you buy plants. The rose bush I got was $25, which I thought was resaonable. read more

I can't say I have a actually bought plants from here. My mom has, and was treated very well. I go here to get my local honey. Everyone is very nice. Lots of great treats in the market. The last time I went I saw that the market was "closed " for updating. I guess the man saw the disappointment on my face. So he asked me what I was looking for and I told him I always buy the big jar of local Lexington honey. He took me right in and yes, they were remodeling , so the lady stopped what she was doing to go find me a jar. Honey crisis diverted!! read more

I recently started a medicinal herb garden and had been searching locally for various herbs and plants. This place had the ones I could not find anywhere else. Yarrow, plantain, elderberry and mullein just to name a few. They are very organised and have sections with titles such as" herbs" or "local native plants" which was helpful. The staff here was friendly and helpful without being overbearing or hovering over you which is the way I like it. This place has a very cool fresh produce store and a gift shop on the property. Really good selection of products. I am looking forward to going back soon. read more

We have been back since our first visit. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. It's worth the drive from central COLA for a full-service experience. Enormous nursery with more plants than I had even dreamed they would have from driving by and looking at the front. There are 5 times as many in the back! This great family owned business is a wonderful nursery and garden market. The Fairy Garden Tea party is a real hit with the young ladies. Take the time to meet the owners, Wally and Delores ... they are extremely knowledgeable in all the things that matter for your flowers, plants, and yard. In addition to all of these things, Wingard's has an annual fund raiser for a local community organization that helps feed and cloth people in need ... very nice and worthwhile ... a trip to Wingard's is enjoyable and a great way to spend the day. read more
