I took my parents here one Saturday afternoon for a little sit down and a hot drink after exploring the local shops. My Dad and I ordered a latte each and my Mum ordered a pot of peppermint tea. Both lattes came out at the perfect temperature and with a good amount of frothy milk on the top. Sadly, the pot of tea my Mum had ordered was a used pot of tea and was therefore half full and stone cold. It seems that one waitress had cleaned off another table and placed the finished with tea pot next to the freshly brewed one, so the wrong one was accidentally bought over. The staff were so apologetic and immediately bought over the actual freshly made pot of tea as soon as we noticed. After that minor mishap, everything ran smoothly and everything tasted just right. I really enjoyed the simplistic style with a few pieces of quirky artwork dotted on the walls. I'd say there's a kind of nautical theme running throughout the café, as there's ropes hanging from the ceiling and a few other seaside/fishing type items dotted around. All very cute and trendy. I'd recommend Rustik to anyone in the area, it's the perfect place (not at all like a standard high street coffee shop) to stop and have a quick drink. Also, the tables are spaced out, so you can enjoy a nice chat or catch up with friends or family without feeling like you're being listened in on.

What can I say, I am a loyal nandos fan !…read more Nandos obviously is not haute cuisine, but to me, it is comfort food. I know what I'm going to get and I know it's going to taste great. Many people think it is just chicken, chicken or chicken, which.. It is... But they also have a great selection of vegetarian food. A surprisingly large number of my veggie friends actually request going to nandos over anywhere else ! They have the standard veggie bean burger which I have been told is delicious, but also other items that aren't full of meat - portobello mushrooms, halloumi and pineapple wraps/burgers/pittas, and they have a good range of salads that are a lot more exciting than your regular garden salad. They have plenty of veggie sides too such as corn on the cobs, spicy rice, ratatouille, macho peas, sweet potato and regular mash etc. Nandos also has a policy to keep it's non-meat containing products separate from meat containing ones. In a nutshell, this place is surprisingly great for veggies! With regards to the chicken, I have tried pretty much everything on the menu. I love the wings, butterfly, quarter, half and whole chickens, and would recommend the pittas and burgers. The burgers come on a Portuguese roll instead of a burger bun, which is lovely and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Much nicer than your average burger bun!! They've just introduced chicken thighs onto the menu which I am yet to try! I would not recommend the wraps so much, I feel you don't get as much chicken (although you probably do..) and they just seem a little bland.. To me, nandos is all about the heat. I am a self proclaimed spice lover. If it's hot, I want it! I can understand why people feel a little disheartened with nandos if they don't love spice. They offer other flavours for those fancying a milder meal, mango and lime or 'plain' for example. When playing their new 'wing roulette' game, I've tried the mango and lime and I was not impressed.. I couldn't describe it in any other way than 'meh'. It is a neither here nor there flavour, I wasn't offended by it, but it was a little weird. I admit that if it wasn't for the spicy combination of flavours and unlimited access to the extra hot sauce, then I may not be quite so much of a nandos fan! Also, an insider tip - you can request the peri-tamer marinade for your chicken, usually only used for the kids meals. It's basically a touch of nandos sauce mixed with BBQ sauce which is then thrown on the grill and is delicious! I have rated nandos 5 stars as over the years, I've never had a bad meal at any nandos I've been too. They are consistently great and their customer service is brilliant. It is a fair price and you have the chance to earn free chickens with their loyalty cards too. All this talk of chicken has now left me craving another nandos!!!

There was 6 in our group so we were seated upstairs where they have extra seating. The staff were all super friendly and you could actually hear everyone talk which makes a change (God I must be getting old). I went for the duck wontons to start, lamp shank for my main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert (January diet sorry what?!). All courses were great and I can't really fault aside from the parsnips being a little under done! Perhaps a little on the pricier side but I'd definitely recommend you this place out, maybe for a special occasion or something. Book in advance to avoid disappointment!

When you go here it's cosy but modern - a bit like stepping into your front room but there are dining tables and you don't have to do the washing up. The staff are friendly and when you get a tomato juice they bring it on a tray. How posh. I'm yet to be let down by this place, either on mains or dessert (the key component to a meal if ever there was one). Plus, I believe they make their own little boxes of chocolates should you wish to purchase such a thing. Very cute.

Just as me and my other Whitworth-Park dwelling friends would stop off at Adbuls or Gemini after a night out, he would never fail to stop at Saajan. Fast-forward 5 years. Single male student is still a student, but now, like many mature students has emigrated south to Didsbury. He still has a penchant for fast food, but not many residents of Didsbury share his fondness, therefore he was most upset when he found out that there are no late night kebab houses in Didsbury. So the resolution to this problem is that after a night out in town, he simply gets off the bus in Fallowfield, purchases his Saajan kebab and gets back onto the bus to Didsbury feeling content. It's very rare for such an establishment to survive for so long without even the slightest hint of a rumour about cockroaches, rats or gross staff (a la Abduls and Gemini) to tarnish its reputation, so Saajan must be good. My friend is also generally very lazy, meaning that Saajan must be damn good.

The fact you could stuff yourself with deliciously saucy and spicy meat and salad on a bit flat bread for £3 was just brilliant. And I genuinely always liked the taste of all three meats: chicken, lamb and shish. I managed to have a perfectly time opportunity and excuse to go last week after probably about 4 years. I went for lamb. Problem is, and I knew this before, a kebab doesn't travel too well. Before I was only living 5 minutes away but now it had to cope with a 20 mins drive so the bread was saggy and the meat a bit cold. Nothing to do with the Sajaan guys however. My main criticism would be about the quality of the meat. I think it went downhill as my lamb was chewy and full of nerves. I still like the flavours but despite the fact the price has gone up (£3.80 now which is not that exorbitant for a full meal) the meat is not as good as it used to be. Would happily go back for the chicken or shish, hopefully in the near future though.

Unlike the Battered Cod & some other chippies that I have frequented (& to be fair, enjoyed in the moment) the chips do not leave me feeling uncomfortable afterwards and, more importantly, they taste great. In fact, their fish & chips is so good that I attempted the Male vs Whale challenge last Summer (see http://wp.me/p1TJO-1j for the full write up of that). Challenge is the operative word! In fact of all the Manchester fish and chips shops I've been to - Leo's, The Friary etc - Fosters is the one that will actually make you go out of your way to visit or maybe plan your night around it. Based in Didsbury Village but also with an excellent branch in upmarket Alderley Edge, Fosters offers a dine in and takeaway service. Having been at Didsbury Beer Festival all afternoon, an evening of stodge was well required and deciding to go without the formalities of having to dine in, takeaway seemed a smart choice (until I got home and realised that my wifes plan was to watch the X-factor - oh how I wished to have stayed at the beer fest!) For 2 haddock, 2 chips and the peas and curry sauce mentioned above it was £16.50 which was pretty good value. Service was quick and 2 guys on the counter seemed up for a chat, unless that was just me after a good few pints of fine craft beer.... This takeaway occasion was great although we have been in the day before (around 6 months ago) and found the Saturday service to be fairly poor and staff very unfriendly so it's up to you really if you want to chance it by dining in.
