First impressions were of a really cool place to hangout (seating for about 20), with an atmosphere and decor that wouldn't be out of place in the Northern Quarter or Didsbury. I got chatting to the girl behind the counter who was very knowledgable of their product range and after myself umming, arrhing and probably over thinking it went for their pie of the week - the pulled chicken balti pie. At £3 for a pie that you'd definitely need to share it was super tasty from first to last bite (lots of meat, good range of veg and a lovely crusty pie case) and good value along with it. I can't wait to go back and try their standard range of pies, see what their next pie of the week is and even give the Stockport pie a go - basically posh meat and potato! Stockport needs more places like LOTP - here's hoping it's the first of many to arrive on the scene.

When I walked into the deli I found a massive selection of products: cheeses, meats, pies, pastries, antipasti. I was really impressed by the variety of food on offer, both local from further afield. I ordered an Italian chicken bap, on seeded bread and it was really top notch. The chicken was succulent and full of flavour, and it came with a decent amount of salad. I also had a couple of stuffed vine leaves, which you can buy for 30p per vine leaf which was a nice treat. The cakes and the multitude of pies also looked extremely appetising. The only criticism I have was that the air conditioning was leaking just where people were queuing, which was not ideal. I can't wait to head back, a nice little find in Macclesfield.

There's everything you could want from whole hampers to tea, coffee, shortbread, pickles and chutneys. At the back of the store, there's a small deli counter that stocks fresh cheese, parma ham, pasta and other delicacies, a luxury wine and champagne counter, a tiny bakery section with freshly baked bread and a wee grocery section selling organic fruit and veg. If they extended these sections I'd probably visit more but as it is, the Foodmarket is too limited and too damn eXpensive.

How about a Panini or ciabatta melt? It's all here. The only scruples are the fact that it does tend to be somewhat overpriced, and their fickle pricing system doesn't seem to help matters. I mentioned that I'd been there to a Liverpudlian friend who said, 'Yep, bet if you had that again you'd pay something different for it.' It apparently depends on who's working at the time or how generous they are with the ingredients. Strange, non? Also if you're on foot it's fine and dandy but if you're in transit with a car you won't find parking nearby, the area's emblazoned with double yellows. Never mind, though, because they have CAKE!
