tl;dr -- go, but go early. Swim.
Perhaps it's just the Melbourne "the best things are the ones other people haven't heard of" attitude showing its ugly head, but I'm glad this beach is out of the way. Yes, I understand the irony of writing that in a Yelp review. I'll deal.
We arrived early, just before the visitor centre opened at 8. This gave us the gift of reaching the beach before the sun was high up in the ozone-less sky, and before it was crowded with people. There were 2 people there when we reached the beach, but nearly 20 by the time we moved on!
We assumed that the water would be colder than in Victoria, but we were wrong. Yes, it was cold, but the beautiful colour of the water and the stunning surroundings made it completely worthwhile. It was like swimming in light blue lemonade, and it was wonderful.
We walked across the isthmus to the also-lovely-but-not-quite-as-outstanding Hazards Beach for another gorgeous view of the other side of the peninsula. Seriously, this place is stunning.
We decided that we would walk the rest of the Hazards loop back to the car park. This was a long walk, and the sun was starting to get hot, but we were frequently rewarded with more wonderful views and cool breezes to get us over the line. Back at the car park by 2pm, then off to reward ourselves with wine at Devil's Peak. A truly lovely day. read more
