A must stop when driving Tasmania's east coast to catch the blow hole in action. We got lucky and were able to see an active blowhole with some large spouts of water.
Best way to the parking spots was turning off of A3 onto Douglas Street and driving to the end of the road. We reached the blowhole in less than 10 minutes walking over mostly dry rocks. Depending on where and how close you stood to the blowhole the rocks could be quite slippery.
If you're not able to drive up to the Bay of Fires, a decent collection of orange lichen covered rocks were here as well.
Penguin viewing was also a possibility and usually best at night when they return from their ocean runs. Guidelines were posted right at the entrance. read more
Visited December 22, 2025. Great for a short scenic stopover. It's nice because you can get quite close and it's a good size, not gigantic. Be careful as a few people taking selfies have slipped running away from getting splashed. read more
