We especially loved learning that Bouchaine is the oldest continuously operating winery in Carneros and sits along the southern edge of Napa Valley, overlooking the beautiful vineyards near San Pablo Bay. We were also impressed to learn about the remarkable women helping lead the winery: proprietor and president Tatiana Copeland and president and winemaker Chris Kajani. The setting is gorgeous. We relaxed on the beautiful patio, surrounded by vineyards, and enjoyed the peaceful Carneros scenery while tasting some exceptional wines. It feels tucked away from the busier parts of Napa Valley, which makes the experience even more special. Rob also told us about the new wine cave currently being built into the hillside. It sounds incredible, and we are already looking forward to returning when it is finished! I thought it would be included on the bill but was only charged for the glass of wine. She thanked us and I said I wanted to enter a tip but she said they don't ask. There was a tip jar but I don't carry cash. (Bring cash) We walked around and found the iconic side of palm tree way There were a few people taking photos and we sat at a table near by. When there wasn't anyone we took pictures (some people were far down the way but they were just behind me in my photos) while I checked what else I could have photograph, a few women wanted to take theirs. They asked if we could take their pictures and I opted to since I was a photographer back in my day. They posed and I took a few then I suggested a bit of a pose for them and they loved it. The owner/winemaker is from the Caymus family and our server Reagan filled us in on all of the history behind what we were tasting. They have a very nice rooftop patio but we chose to stay outside at street level. I did the 3 wine tasting and got to do all reds. My favorite was the Key to Building 1 Red Blend and I got another glass. My husband had two glasses of the cab and really loved it, especially paired with the cabernet chocolate truffle bar. Who knew wine could make chocolate taste so good? Reagan took great care of us and made our afternoon so enjoyable. Highly recommended.

My husband eventually got up to talk to the hostess. It turns out that there was a mix-up about who was in charge of our table. I understand that these things happen, but I wish someone had taken notice that we were being attended to, especially since the tasting room was relatively empty at the time. Let's face it - in Napa Valley, the quality of wine should be a given. It's the experience that matters to us most when it comes to tastings. We appreciated that the tasting room manager came over to apologize immediately after this and comped our tasting fees. Anyway, once we got on with our tasting, everything was great. Our server was very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. All of the wine we tasted was outstanding. Their production seems focused on a few varieties/blends, but there was just enough spread in the tasting menu: Sauvignon Blanc, rosé of Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, and Yettail, their flagship red Bordeaux blend. The tasting also included a small snack plate (dip and crackers, I think), perfect size for avoiding drinking on an empty stomach. At the end of the tasting, we ordered a bottle of the rosé and Cabernet Franc to take home. To our surprise, they even threw in a bonus bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to make up for the initial mishap.
