I have visited this restaurant several times over the last few months and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and food. Parking can be a bit challenging on Friday nights. During a couple of our visits, there was live music, although I'm not sure whether it's offered every Friday. On our most recent visit, we ordered calamari, blueberry cheesecake, fish and chips, a Philly steak sandwich, a burger, and a grouper sandwich. We requested the grouper sandwich grilled but were not informed of the $3.50 upcharge until we saw it on the final bill. We also ordered a strawberry basil martini, which unfortunately did not seem to contain any noticeable strawberry or basil flavor, a ginger mule that tasted mostly like ginger beer, and a Guinness. Overall, we spent more than $180 on our meal. Everything seemed great until we got home. Unfortunately, everyone in my family experienced stomach issues afterward. We couldn't determine exactly what caused it, but the experience has made us decide not to return. It's disappointing because we had enjoyed our previous visits and had generally been very satisfied with the restaurant. read more

The staff here are pretty awesome. Friendly, outgoing, always ahead of the service - and overall just general good folk. There has been some new owners recently so the menu changed a bit, but i find the quality of the food to always be spectacular for a 'sports bar' where i want both super high quality food and a chance to see one more more games on decent quality TVs, and they do this really well, one really large tv and some mid sized in the bar area gets you so you can see 2 or 3 games at once. I would say though, they need to get two more TVs mounted behind the bar area so there would be more options for games, but compared to many sports bars in this area, it far and away stands out as the great balance between food and the game. The wings here - off the chain good. Some of the best queso here, the wraps are good, shrimp is amazing - they do a pretty good job as a bar having some healthy options along with your typical fare, and I love that. read more

A group of six of us arrived at 11:45 on a Wednesday for lunch. I have been here a few times, so I knew what to expect food wise and I was excited for another good meal. All of us raved about the food (the Cuban was one of the best I have ever had) but the service was severely lacking. We were sitting for around 10 minutes before the server approached our table, drink cups were left empty, and all in all just inadequate. The most attentive time I saw the server was after I signed the credit card receipt and added the tip, in which case she appeared moments after the last stroke of the pen to retrieve it. Side note: wait until after the party leaves to get the credit card receipt and tip info. It is tacky to rush to get the tip info while the party is still sitting at the table read more

We came to Windward Tavern for a late lunch. The menu has a great selection, so we decided to give it a try. It's a sports bar located in the Publix shopping center on the corner, with a covered patio if you want to sit outside. Just an FYI they allow pets on the patio. I'm not a fan of that, as I don't believe dogs belong at restaurants, but that's another topic. The place was nice. When we arrived, there weren't many people there, so we were seated right away. We ordered, and our food came out quickly. The tuna sandwich on ciabatta was amazing it reminded me of a good-quality, real deli sandwich! My wife loved the grouper tacos and sweet potato fries. Our son finished all of his chicken quesadilla, so I'd say it passed the kid test. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the food was very good, and we'll definitely be back. We went on a Thursday night during TNF football and we sat at the bar and it was a blast. The bartender was very nice and always made sure we weee doing good! The ambiance at the place is very nice, feels like a high-end sports bar. The food is great as well, I got a burger and fries and it was very memorable! read more

I'm pleasantly surprised with this place. I guess when I hear tavern, I'm just thinking fancy ish bar food that's either a hit or miss. But the experience was rather pleasant (thanks checking on us and the drink refills) with the food and service. Plus, the first time meeting the boss and a peer made it a good memory. I had the chicken corden bleu wrap from the special menu along with smashed red skin potatoes. The chicken corden bleu wrap was warm and had really good flavors from the chicken to the smoked ham. I rather liked how this wrap wasn't cold. It made the food taste better with the melted swiss and provolone cheeses melding everything nicely together. The smashed red skin potatoes were oh so divinely good. I'm sure there was loads of butter. But the skin on the potatoes really added nice textures and flavor. I really think this was the best I've every tasted! read more

Great place for a group dinner! This was our 2nd visit and the calamari is a favorite! We ended up getting 2 orders. One order is a good sized appetizer to share but we loved it so much we needed a second helping. The calamari is crispy, tasty and not greasy with lemon and marinara sauce (I liked it but one person in our group found the marinara a bit too sweet). The artichoke spinach dip came with a big basket of tortilla chips - I liked that the chips were all corn yellow and I found using a fork helped to scoop the dip onto the chip. The bluepoint oysters were very good. The French onion soup is great but awkward to eat while everyone else is sharing the other apps. The coconut shrimp is good but the popcorn shrimp has no fried coating and is covered in a sweet sauce. Tavern salad was large, fresh and could definitely be made into a meal with an added protein. The entrees are ok. The crispy grouper sandwich is a good choice worth ordering again. The meatloaf is two large slices with mashed potatoes and gravy - I enjoyed it but found that there was not enough gravy for 2 slices. The miso salmon is covered in miso that was a little too sweet and the salmon was crispy the first time but not crispy the second time. We do wish they'd offer a higher cut of steak - the flat iron steak is priced to match the rest of the menu but is not the best and they do not serve baked potato. The service is attentive and friendly. We are definitely going back. read more

I actually highly recommend this place. Windward Tavern definitely has that bar-vibe where there's just enough noise for it to be alive yet just enough privacy at the tables to have a good conversation. What stands out most is the quality of food and drinks. Service: The wait staff is plenty nice. There aren't many frequent visits to the tables - I would say that bar service is better - but the servers are certainly available to be called over and are helpful with most requests. Timing is decent both for bringing an order and for bringing an additional item. Environment: It's not a grungy sports-bar feel, but it's not so clean that I'd eat a food item that spilled off my plate. There's plenty of space to move around and the seating is an average level of comfort. The bar has quite a few TVs set to different channels for accessible viewing on the inner parts of the bar as well as from most tables on the bar-side of the restaurant. Drinks: Yes. These aren't your fancy cocktails with layers of flavor, but the bartenders do traditional drinks well here. An odd note, but the whiskey cubes are oddly large here, so that single cube takes up most of the space in the glass. The drinks are exactly as you expect, and I appreciate that because I can order what I know I'll like. They're a little heavier on the beer and bourbon side when it comes to ordering off the menu, but they have a full bar. Entrees: Sometimes I'm unsure when I'm in a tavern. Though pricey, the food here is pretty delicious. For example, the ahi tuna sandwich on ciabatta bread has a nice thick bite to it, though the tuna itself was a bit chewy in a few parts and could have been better seasoned. The Silos Chicken dish comes with the well-grilled chicken cut into strips that is also on a few other dishes such as the pecan + goat cheese salad. Overall, the dishes are good, just expensive. Sides: The mashed potatoes side is good, albeit not anything special. The broccoli is similar with the added benefit of garlic. Those sweet potato fries though... for having little to no seasoning, those babies are thin and have the perfect bite to them so that they're neither soggy nor crunchy. Though nothing in particular stands out about this spot, I appreciate the quality I get amidst this tavern feel. I make a point to add it to my rotation. read more

I took my parents to Windward Tavern for a night out. They are in their 80's. I'm appalled that there was a review on Yelp saying that this menu is just frozen food and given 1 or 2 stars. Everything was made in house and delish. The fish taco I had was great, the roast beef perfect as was the chicken pot pie. The restaurant was packed, service was on point. This restaurant is very reasonably priced and a gem in the community. We also were surprised that a patron next to our table paid for our meal probably because my dad had his veteran hat on. I turned to thank him and he was already checked out. Extremely kind! I cannot say enough about this restaurant. My parents are already looking forward to their next visit. read more

The specials use to be more interesting... they took the chicken sausages off the menu which was really good.. And few other dishes that just didn't taste the same. It's a local watering hole that has pretty good food. The people are super nice! Always friendly and just down home good. We were a a party of seven and yet were seated very quickly. There were plenty of selections on the main menu and also a specials menu. Unfortunately, the trout I ordered off of the latter was already out. Then, I ordered a chicken dish but it had onion in the breading and marina. So, the chef had to concoct a dinner for me with a plain chicken breast and cheese. This was accomplished very nicely! Kudos! And thanks to server Alex M. for going back and forth to get me food I could eat. Sadly, though, my granddaughter's salmon-on-salad dish came out very raw. So, it was sent back. The second one came and it was also raw. (I am not talking about "rare"--I am talking about runny raw.) She ate the salad but not the salmon. Everyone else liked their food and my daughter loved the teriyaki wings. The tavern burger was devoured as was the chicken-pasta dish. Service is a little off compared to our last experiences a couple years ago after having moved from the area. Food is still good but theres just a different vibe going on here now - hard to put my finger on it. The cocktails aren't as good as they use to be and menus don't have what's advertised- for example: the barrel aged drinks are no longer available and the Old Fashioned has the wrong price listed. Listed at $10 but the bill shows $12. An okay place to eat but just don't get that welcoming feel any longer. Kinda sad. read more

We ordered Carry Out for my office. I was early to pick up the food and my office is absurdly close. Ordered Fish'n'Chips and Meatloaf. The fish was piping hot , crispy on the ends but was soggy and wet in the middle. I suspect this may have been previously frozen. The accompanying French fries where however luke-warm, stale and chewy - as if they'd been left out all day. The meatloaf was different then expected. It was more akin to a pâté in terms of density and texture. It too was luke warm on the edges and colder in the center. I can't judge the flavor as it was not appetizing to eat cold. I don't suspect pick-up attributed to the temperature of the food as the accompanying mashed potatoes where hot and so was the order of fish and chips. The spinach and artichoke dip almost certainly had a microwaved cheese texture and consistency. Admittedly the experience may be different dining in and is still a better option for the area. I will however not plan on visiting again. read more
