I had Lasik at Windsor Laser Eye Institute in 2004. Prior to my surgery, I was fairly nearsighted with significant astigmatism. I couldn't see well enough to go out without corrective lenses, but my contacts were becoming unbearably painful due to the astigmatism and glasses were a huge pain. Enter Dr. Tayfour. I went to his clinic for a free initial consult, and learned I was a good candidate for Lasik. I paid a little extra to receive the Wavefront technology, which at the time was very new but said to improve surgery results. One of the factors that gave me confidence in this clinic was that Dr. Tayfour focuses exclusively on performing surgeries, while other professionals in the clinic do most of the exams. The research I found online suggested that the primary factor associated with a positive Lasik outcome is the number of prior surgeries the surgeon has done, with a critical threshhold in the low hundreds. Dr. Tayfour had done several thousand at the time I had my surgery. The day of the surgery, I had an adverse reaction to the Valium they provide prior to surgery and became quite anxious. I chose to go through with it anyway, so the staff sent an extra nurse into the OR just to hold my hand and soothe me through the surgery. The surgery itself was . . .weird. Gross. Exactly as it had been described. Not painful, but uncomfortable. And fast. When it was over, I was given an Ativan and a granola bar. After about an hour and a quick examination, I was sent home with big plastic sunglasses to wear. My eyes hurt horribly, and I couldn't see a thing when I managed to painfully pry my eyelids open. I almost immediately passed out when I got home. Maybe 6 hours later, I woke up and realized I could sort of blurrily half-see. "Oh crap," I thought, "I've gone blind." Then the morning came, and I opened my eyes to total clarity. I could see every number on my alarm clock, all the way across the room. I had some side effects, including eye dryness that lasted about six months and some facial tenderness for about six weeks. Eyedrops took care of the former problem and time the latter. I do see some "starbursts" around lights, which is a common side effect from Lasik, but it's actually an improvement over the haze I would see from my astigmatism before the surgery. Dr. Tayfour and his clinic provide a few aftercare visits, during which they assess your vision and check that healing is going well. I was very satisfied with this care as well. The price was excellent--at the time, it was significantly cheaper than a comparable clinic in the US (though still in the thousands). However, the exchange rate at the time also favored the US dollar more than it does today. In 2010, I had my 5 year well vision check up. I see at 20/15, with no problems reading. I also calculated that I recently began saving money on the whole deal based on projections for what contact lenses, cleansers, glasses, etc. cost. I couldn't recommend the Windsor Laser Eye Institute or Dr. Tayfour more strongly. read more

I had an absolutely fabulous experience with Dr. Tayfour, his staff, and Windsor Laser Eye Institute! I started with a first opinion from another doctor in the States, who told me that he could not in good faith recommend traditional LASIK, but instead would recommend LASEK (with an E, not an I), which is more uncomfortable and has a longer recovery time. Promptly said "no thank you" and called Windsor Laser Eye Institute for the same-day exam/procedure service they offer. The staff was very caring and soothed my anxieties, and Dr. Tayfour was approachable, but definitely a man who you knew took his job very seriously and spoke with years and years of experience under his belt. LASIK (with the I) would be no problem, he said. He instilled confidence in me from the moment I shook his hand. Surgery was superquick, completely painless (though maybe a tad uncomfortable at times), and overall a very easy procedure! But what seals the deal that I made the right decision is that when I go to my home-based optometrist for my 1/3/6/etc month checkups, that doctor is absolutely floored by the precision and down-right perfection of the surgery and Dr. Tayfour's work. He spends the entire exam looking in my eyes and saying under his breath "Wow... Simply incredible... Absolutely perfect. He [Dr. Tayfour] never misses..." He said he's never seen a more perfect cut than Dr. Tayfour's ("some come close, but I've never seen better" were his direct words). If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. Oh, and I see better than 20/20 now, to boot! I wouldn't waste my time going anywhere other than Windsor Laser Eye Institute if I had to do it all over again. read more

I hope there is a way to stop Dr. Tayfour from performing Lasik at the Windsor Eye Institute. He damaged my eyes and refused to help me after the Lasik surgery. It's interesting that the pricing is different for different customers. I was referred to this office by my girlfriend. She said she paid $4,000.00 Canadian for Lasik surgery. I called and was told as an American customer it was $4, 500.00 us. With the American dollar being at 27 cents on the dollar this a significant mark up. read more

Dr. Tayfour has changed my life twice. The first time was with LASIK nearly 15 years ago and the second time was this past Wednesday, 8.8.18, when he performed double cataract surgery. I was legally blind when Dr. Tayfour performed my LASIK, and the success of that procedure made me a new person. Now, at age 64 when it was clear my vision was deteriorating, I returned to this skilled surgeon for cataract correction. I am currently 48 hours post-surgery and typing this review without glasses, squinting, or holding the computer screen close to my eyes, an impossibility on Monday. In addition to being a consummate ophthalmologist, Dr. Tayfour is soothing, reassuring and spends time with a patient as necessary. His staff is superb (I wish we lived closer so we could be friends with them), his facilities are top-notch, and his results have been spectacular with absolutely no discomfort or pain. We cannot recommend him more highly. read more

I had the Laser surgery myself, and within 3 years noticed I needed glasses, I paid nearly $4000 for this surgery. I was nearsighted prior to this, and wore contact lenses. Since the surgery, I can only wear one type of lens, and after wearing them for less than a full day my eyes are irritated and they need to come out. I have repeatedly tried to contact Dr. Tayfour to have the surgery done again, as promised, he does not "feel that I need it" well, I can't drive at night, I have major issues with seeing clearly when it's dusky and low light situations. I cannot believe the arrogance of this man, to tell me that even though I can't see clearly that he doesn't see it being a problem. I wish I had gone to the cheaper clinics, my mother and sister both did, they had worse vision than me, and now both of them see perfectly. They paid less than $1000 each. Dr. Tayfour has zero compassion for his patients or the money they spend on his procedures. I'm currently trying to get my records so I can pay another clinic to correct my vision, Dr. Tayfour's office is refusing to co-operate with my request to send over my documents. So at the moment I can't even get my vision corrected. Steer clear of this money monger, he does not have your best interest as his first priority, he cares only about lining his pockets! read more
