    Roasted pork shank. Yummy!

A quaint place to hang your hat for a night or two. I went in a work trip with 3 other people and we reserved 4 rooms. The reservation process was simple. Check in was nice-the front desk clerk was animated, gave great information, and was helpful. We made dinner reservations right away and she accommodated our needs. Dinner was great and our party of 4 had a night cap outside. The owner is a sommelier and they advertised Wine Down Wednesday! I realized I had locked my key in my room and there was some confusion about getting a new one issued. Check out was simple as well. The room was nicely appointed. I could not figure out how to open the blinds and would have liked to see the view outside. I faced the front yard street. One coworker faced the courtyard and had a nice view. Another had the Susan B Anthony room and enjoyed the history. Overall a nice place to stay.

Birthday dinner in the restaurant at the Windsor Hotel was amazing! The restaurant has an extensive hand crafted cocktail menu, as well as a nice wine list. We started with expertly prepared cocktails and warm, fresh made bread. We then opted for the charcuterie plate, which was a perfect presentation of meats, cheese, jam, cornishons and toasted baguette. For mains, I had the Bison Short Ribs and the blending of flavors in this dish was delectable. The meat was very tender and served with a raisin chutney on top of the ribs, a butternut squash purée under the ribs, and a mint raita on the side. Savory and scrumptious! My husband had the scallops and Gnocchi, and our friends both had the NY Strip. All were perfectly cooked. We then had a delicious assortment of desserts. Tammy was a terrific waitress and made sure we were well taken care of. The ambiance and service were awesome! If you are looking for a fabulous old west atmosphere, wonderful service, excellent food & just a place to enjoy an evening out in Rio Grande or Mineral County, go to the restaurant at The Windsor Hotel.

Had dinner and spent the night at The Windsor Hotel. Had drinks in Bistro Barbara before dinner. The Twentieth Century was a good house cocktail. My only complaint was the high bar tables and chairs. Do bars now think everyone is 6ft tall. A nice man held the chair while I did a very unladylike climb into the seat. Dinner in the Dining room was one of the best meals I have had in a while Compressed Watermelon Salad, Bison Short Ribs melted in you mouth, smoked corn and sautéed greens. My friend had Tomahawk Ribeye, real mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies, including radishes. Dessert was peach pana cotta and chocolate soufflé. Only thing that wasn't outstanding was gazpacho which was much different than I've had before and a little on the spicy side. Will definitely go back again. The menu changes monthly and is locally sourced.

This charming hotel is like brand new. What a treat. The rooms are large and the bed is comfortable The extra treat is the incredible food at their restaurant. Homemade breads big delicious menu and expansive wine list. Super friendly staff. A must stay.

Elegant dining room- most romantic meal in the San Luis Valley!

The Windsor is a charming place for a romantic meal. The dining room is elegant with a full bar, creative cocktails and good wine list. Service is attentive and professional. They accommodated our kids and offer a vegan/vegetarian meal with advanced notice. It would be nice if they offered more vegetarian options. Both times we dined there it was zucchini noodles- more zucchini than most people could eat in a year! Nicely flavored but not very satisfying without a protein component. Other entrees were delicious and the salads were beautiful. I appreciated that much of the produce was local and loved the edible flowers on our plates. There is often live music in the courtyard.

Just bought yourself a negative review for **lack of follow through - do read the entire entry…read more *Very* deserving of a gazillion zeros. I called the hotel directly to make reservations. Very difficult to understand the person. With those challenges, I had to ask a few times about any discounts they offer. AAA is the most popular, you can guess. I was given one choice of bed size, a king, but certainly would have accepted a queen for less money. There was no indication of full capacity or not. The person had no sense of being pleasant or human, but only robotic. An average room at best. The movie was ignored. Upon seeing the bill, I was aghast at the lack of anticipated discounts. I called the hotel to inquire. Expecting apologies, I received a lengthy, unintelligible diatribe that sounded rather defensive, which I couldn't fathom since I only posed a question. I requested a return call from the manager/owner. To verify any information provided from the hotel staff, I called their reservation line with the same questions. At least I could understand the agent. The regular rate I was told was definitely not 179.00, plenty of discounts were available, bedding choices - but the kicker was that the 'reward' rate was much lower. No, I was not asked whether I was a member or offered that same price at the time of reservation. (The rate could have easily been $20 less. Not significant normally, but when false information is dispensed carelessly, it becomes an issue.) Furious over the new-found ammunition, I phoned the hotel asking for the manager/owner again. Not in, didn't know when he/she was expected on site. Asking for the email address (fully doubting the validity) I thought a paper trail might bring about a resolution. I dashed off a query, and honestly did not expect a response. Too much time passed. Phoning the hotel again (I've lost count of the number of times) I asked when the manager/owner was due in. I could not decipher what was said, mumbled thank you and hung up. Oddly enough my phone rang moments later. Really, I thought, not on the property? We had a long conversation, and you guessed - some of which I could not interpret. I endured many excuses, which a guest should not be exposed to. Terminating employees. Mistakes were made. Staffing issues mentioned ad nauseum, further impacting cleaning. I told her the hotel couldn't have been fully booked. She sounded sincere, so I was hopeful. The only concern of mine was the deception at the time of reservation, and her making right. The best solution she could offer was a 7% refund. Seriously? Even after acknowledging the errors. You read that correctly, a whopping seven percent, simply less than $10. ** To date, weeks after the incident, still no refund. My husband - nor I - will ever return. We most assuredly do not recommend staying here.

The can of bedbug spray at the front door should have been enough to send me running. The good news, I checked the bed with cell phone light and bedding appeared clean and bug-free. The toilet wouldn't flush. I never figured out the shower. There appeared to be black mold in the bathroom. No heat, but the heater door was open and vaguely smelled of gas. The furniture in the front room appeared to be "early dump" with the cushions covered with some sort of mat. Drippy stuff down the walls. Awakened at 1:40 AM with a thumping or gnawing noise. Taco mattress. Should have known when checking in to a very unclean counter and the poster on the wall was for the Monte Vista Crane Festival in 2014! I did not receive any bites. The owner explained that they never have any bedbugs, but they spray between guests "because you never know what people may bring"! They did refund my money less a $40 cleaning fee. Which would probably clean it for the next 10 years. YIKES!

We came in the offseason for the area, which meant they were not showing a movie that might. We cooked our own dinner in the state-of-the-art kitchen. We stayed in a very clean and new suite which had a queen bed, large bathroom, and top-quality amenities. A couple suggestions for the owners: the room was big enough to accommodate a king bed - would have been more comfortable. The fire pits are nice to have, but the small gas flame and the size of the pit meant you couldn't get close enough to be warmed by it...we were very cold and gave up quickly. Lastly, a BBQ grill would have been a nice option if you are going to encourage guests to cook on site. Other than that, really cool stay in an unexpected spot.
