Sitting on the Back Porch of Big Red listening to the River

We loved staying here! The staff is wonderful, very welcoming. We stayed in Brookie and Big Red with our 2 kids. Our youngest loved the playground. The fish cleaning station was handy. We used the laundry facilities. We all loved RiverBend and will be back!

This was our first outing with our RV, it couldn't have been a nicer place. We thoroughly enjoyed each and every person we encountered, from the staff to the guests. We had a comfortable camp ground, social events and amazing golf course. Fished every day and caught a lot of fish. Pet and kid friendly! I know we will be back the same time next year. I can't say enough about the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful.

I've been really happy with the Riverbend. Although we've been coming to South Fork for years, this is our first time staying here, and it's been really great. It's one of the only places in South Fork with a cabin that has two queen beds and free wifi, which were really important to us since we have two couples in our party. Our cabin was named Summit. Like most of the other cabins in South Fork, the appearance is very rustic. (But it's very charming!) Pros: Great fireplace, free firewood, free wifi, well-stocked kitchenware (more utensils and dishes than other places I've stayed here), forced-air heat (so you don't have to leave your bedroom door open at night to stay warm), charming and cute, sleds to borrow, big flat-panel TV, DVD-players to borrow, and space heaters to borrow. There's also a nice big kitchen table where we set up our laptops, and they have a nice selection of different pillows with varying poofiness. Cons: One of the queen beds dips in the middle so we roll into each other a bit at night. (The other couple says their bed is fine.) The wifi is pretty slow -- it takes a few minutes to load a YouTube video before we can watch it. Overall I was very pleased, and we plan to stay here in the future on our annual trip. Also, fun fact: National Lampoon's Vacation filmed some scenes at the Riverbend, and there are a bunch of photos of the actors filming here in the lobby.

Love! Love! Love! Riverbend Resort! This has been a great experience and look forward to returning in the Spring! They don't advertise how special this place is to us 80s kids but when you walk in to the Office and "Ring Bell for Service" you'll know what I mean. Great people here! Thanks for a great stay!

The facility is 2 stories with some separate, cute cabins in the back. We stayed in room #1, street side on the lower level. Though accommodations were basic, the room was immaculate and large, with 2 queen beds and night stands, a good size table & chair with flat screen TV, coffee pot with the necessary supplies, small fridge, microwave and still plenty of room to move around easily. Mattress & pillows were super comfy as were bed linens. Nice, quality drapes block the light well from the very large windows and the adjustable ceiling fan keeps the air moving & room comfy. The bath & dressing area in our room was newly updated & very nice. I really liked that the sink & dressing area was separate from the toilet/bath. One person could be in the bathroom or shower while someone else did hair & makeup or dressed.... works well for women traveling together. The place was clean and quiet, the bed was super comfy, bath water was hot & I could have my morning coffee..... that really checks everything off the list for this frugal traveler. But they also had a continental breakfast so we could grab a muffin or cereal for a quick breakfast, which helped save some bucks. The HUGE plus for this place is Tina. She was engaged from the moment we walked in the door. She was friendly and personable, attentive and reactive to our requests and needs & gave us all kinds of information and helpful tips. Thank you, Tina for a great stay.... you are a gem!

We were told by the owner that after about 9:00 PM the room would cool down from the river breeze, so we decided to stay. Unfortunately, the room never cooled off and remained uncomfortably hot all night. We were traveling with family, including a pregnant woman, which made the lack of air conditioning even more concerning. To make matters worse, it was nearly impossible to reach anyone for assistance. When I finally spoke with staff at their sister property late that night, I was told my only options were to either check out around midnight for a refund or stay and receive no refund. Asking a family to find another hotel in the middle of the night is not a reasonable solution. If your rooms don't have air conditioning, that should be clearly disclosed before booking. The location is beautiful, but the lack of transparency and poor customer service completely overshadowed our stay.

Hi there. I am writing this review in total support of the Spruce Lodge. I truly enjoyed my stay…read morehere even if it was for one evening to rest my head. I visited in early May of this year journeying through southern Colorado visiting my lifelong goal of reaching every national park in the country. So....just coming from Great Sand Dunes National Park exploring for the day, Spruce Lodge was only 66 miles away. Although South Fork is just a drive through town, ending my eventful day here was ideal for me. Also, the following day I was heading to Mesa Verde National Park 137 miles away but Spruce Lodge was situated right in between these 2 great parks so I highly recommend staying here especially because there's no towns or cities nestled in between if you were to bypass South Fork....if you're headed west like I was, you head straight into the mountains for a while. In my opinion...Spruce Lodge had aspects of part bed and breakfast with a villa and rustic feel to its rooms. Lol, I was sort of enamored with the looks of it all that I photographed my room and the grounds outside to post on Yelp explaining how cozy and clean I felt the accommodations were. Simply trying to explain...Spruce Lodge is a little mom and pop spot to stay at located right off the main road in South Fork. I checked in at the main lodge and was kindly given the keys to my room by the innkeeper. My room was based back outside the lodge towards the left hand side. It was connected as part of a townhouse/condo which was an unexpected surprise because all I was asking for was a simple place to sleep for the night. And yet I go so much more. My room inside had a cabin vibe to it and felt very clean. Also, there were 2 chairs next to the porch outside which I sat down on after dinner soaking up the setting sun before heading to bed. There is a BBQ restaurant right next door to the lodge that looked interesting but unfortunately the one night I was staying on a Monday evening, was the one night the BBQ place was closed. Still, the innkeeper recommended The Old Firehouse Restaurant just down the road and it was more than suffice. Old Firehouse serves American food offering sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, pizza and classic dinners such as meat loaf and pot roast. I'd recommend going here if you're not a BBQ person or if the BBQ restaurant next door is closed. Finally, Spruce lodge has free continental breakfast offered starting 6:30 am. If you're interested in a full breakfast, I believe there's a restaurant that you pay for inside the actual lodge...though since I wanted an early start out to Mesa Verde the following day, the continental breakfast was plenty enough. Almost forgot, visiting in early May, my room rate was $65! That was fantastic for the situation and for what I believed to be a quality a place to stay. I can imagine when it's more in season, the rates would never be this cheap. In all, I'd certainly recommend choosing Spruce Lodge. For location, accommodations, price, food options and surroundings it's about as good as you'll find when trekking through southern Colorado or wherever your travels may take you.

I reserved this room through Expedia/Chase Travel and the pictures that Rainbow Lodge provided looked NOTHING like the room we received. Next, let's talk about noise. I can understand the road noise, as it is quite literally right off of the highway. What I can't excuse, is my neighbors door having to be kicked/forced open. Or any movement from the upstairs patron creek and echo throughout our room. Lastly, Comfort... or lack there of. The window ac unit for the room was broken. They had makeshift handles, but it still only worked on max heat. We had to continually get up throughout the night to turn it off and on to regulate the temperature in the room. On top of that, there was NO BLANKET/COMFORTER. We had 3 sheets on the bed. Thankfully we had our sleeping bags in the car. At checkout, I received an automated text on how to checkout. Since we had already left and forgot to lift the shades, I texted back to notify them and received no response. So I assumed, it was an automated text line. I decided to wait until I got home from 14 hours of travel, to report my claim through Expedia/Chase Travel. Rainbow Lodge says that they will not resolve the issue because "I never reached out to them." As previously stated, that is false. They did not text me back when I notified them of the shades, which would have given me the opportunity to voice my concerns. When I did text the line with my concerns after they refused to remedy the situation with Expedia/Chase Travel, I was met with the same excuse "you didn't reach out during your stay" which I'll say one last time, is false. I 100% will never stay here again. Please proceed with caution if you choose to stay here.
