It's wonderful to find, in our day and age, a company who specialises in such a timeless and artist…read moreprofession. Stained glass is, in my mind, one of the most beautiful and long lasting of all art. I'll try not to wax lyrical about this place too much. But their work really is stagring beautiful, it's worth taking a look at their website even if you're not looking to buy anything. You might well become inspired. But what I like best about Ashdown is the humbleness of it all. They make exceptional pieces with due care and attention, but are not showy with it. Instead they rely upon good workmanship and customer service to get them comfortably through the decades. Wonderful.

I visited Ashdown Stained Glass Specialists on Cowbridge Rpad East about a couple of months ago in…read morethe hope that they supplied antique stained glass window panels. During a recent trip to Holland I noticed how many houses have panels hanging from chains within their huge bay windows, and I've decided that I'd quite like to create the same effect. As Ashdown Stained Glass Specialists repair and restore stained glass windows I figured that I'd be in with a good chance of striking it lucky. But it wasn't to be. They don't remarket antique glass, but they do accept commissions and can make new designs look like Victorian originals if that was what I wanted. There are additional benefits too; they are made to measure, and the materials used will be in pristine condition and so will last a lot longer and will require less maintenance. So although a commissioned piece of stained glass window commands a hefty sum of money, I could end up saving myself cash over time, as well as the hassle. It's tricky. They gave me so much advice that I'm not sure which direction to turn in. They were even good enough to put me onto several places where I could find original panels, potentially doing themselves out of business. It's a little ironic, Ashdown Stained Glass Specialists have been in business for well over a century, and so would have made some of the windows I'm likely to find at architectural salvage yards. But, being a progressive company they have moved with the times. Some of their modern designs are breath-taking, especially as they can create design integrity throughout a property, using reinforced glass to be used for partitioning and on stairwells instead of a balustrade.

I would not recommend this company to anybody! Although I…read morehave not had any work done by this company, I rang and made an appointment with Dexter to come and give me a quotation on my flat to have all the windows replaced. We arranged to meet at 12 o'clock and I said I will be there in my lunch hour between 12 and 1pm as the flat is vacant. At 12.40 I rang to see if anybody was coming. The gentleman I spoke to said he could see that I was on the board for 12 o'clock. I then said it's nearly 12:45 is anybody coming? I was told that they were very busy and he didn't like the tone of my voice. So, I asked to speak to Dexter. Dexter came on the phone and said to me that I should have phoned earlier rather than leaving it 45 minutes, I stated that I shouldn't be reminding you to keep an appointment. This he did not like and told me it wasn't an appointment it was for an estimate. I reminded him that it was for a quotation and that I stated that I would give him the business if the price was okay there and then. He then proceeded to argue with me that it was not an appointment, this went on. To me it's all the same, if they are coming to give me a price to get the business, then it's an appointment. At the end of the day, I asked when can you come and the earliest they would be able to arrive was 1:20 I reminded him I was in my lunch hour and had to go back to work and this was not convenient. Once again he didn't like my tone and could not accept that the issue was from their side and not mine. I would like to remind Dexter that I am the customer and I was looking to spend thousands of pounds with him, all I wanted was for them to turn up give me a price and agree the deal. I understand it's not a perfect world and things go wrong or you can become overwhelmed with too many customers or pressure from work. All it would have taken was a phone call to say I'm running late and I would have happily waited for as long as it took. But to turn it round and argue with me that I should have rung them because they didn't turn up and then argue with me whether it is an appointment or not is unbelievable. So in my honest opinion, due to the attitude I received and the subsequent texts received I would have to say to anyone "Stay away from this company"

The backbone of my case was to prove that they had installed a product that was not fit for purpose or of a merchantable quality. Not only were all of the windows catching but the openings had chipped corners. I also had draughty doors which didn't operate smoothly and the kitchen door frame was now loose because of all the adjustments. Also they are very rude when you contact them and ask them to rectify their problems and they say that it was your fault and not theirs! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
