This is a 6 acre park located in the Windings, a neighborhood built in the 1970's in Coral Springs. The neighborhood is mainly single family homes and the entrance to this park is between two homes. There is no parking so I believe it was meant to be only used by people in the neighborhood.
You go down a narrow pathway and then the space opens up into a large area behind people's homes. At one time there was a playground but now there is only the gravel pit where it once sat.
What makes this park interesting is that it is completely surrounded by canals. The water attracts a lot of birds and I saw an anhinga and a great blue heron. The coolest thing I saw was a tree full of monk parakeets. They are the smallest members of the parrot family. They were brought to Florida by the exotic bird trade. They are prized for their small size and intelligence. A few escaped into the wild and now they are all over Florida. There was at least 50 of them in the tree and they all took flight at once.
I think the main reason people in the neighborhood come to this park is for fishing. If you can find it, it's like a secret park hidden in Coral Springs. read more
