This is a nice bookstore. There is a good selection, the atmosphere is calm, and the room is very clean and organized. True story: One day, it was raining hard--like, Old Testament hard--so I ran inside for shelter. I started eyeing some books and found one that I liked. I went to pay for it and she said, "Middlesex is my favorite book." She also said that I could stay for longer, considering the weather. I had to go, though, since I had a meeting at El Centro (3 out of 5 stars), but I would have stayed longer. Who knows--maybe she and I would have a family, right now, had I stayed. But yeah. This place is heaven. Who needs a personal book consultant? I do! The staff delivered. They have a cultivated selection of books that don't feel random, yet have something for everyone. The books aren't at the cheapest price you can find them at but know there is a huge value in supporting your local book shop and that they hire readers who are passionate about making your experience exceptional. read more

This is a lovely little space in old town Winchester that is clean and inviting; the bookstore also has a great online presence and seems to have some interesting events in store. However, coming from a family of booksellers, I have some observations about opportunities for improvement: 1) The signage in the store is non-existent. There are lots of books on shelves but you can't tell what each section is. Occasionally there might be a label on something at the floor level, not at eye level. Very confusing and frustrating if you're looking for a particular subject. 2) They don't seem to buy/stock extra of popular titles or authors. If you go in looking for a best seller or an author who is trending, I have often had the response that "we only had two of those in stock but I can order it for you?" I try to shop local but if I wanted to order a title I would just do it through Amazon where I can get it next day delivered to my house instead of waiting a week and having to go back in to pick it up. 3) Most small book stores will at least have a table of "Staff Picks" or "NYT Best Sellers" or "Children's Classics" or "Summer Reading Recommendations." As far as I can tell, the table at the front of the store is just new hardcovers, but there's no theme that would draw interest or explain who some of these authors/titles are. I think this could really be a 5-star store with a few tweaks from a marketing standpoint. Hoping to continue to support this location. read more

An excellent place to find a wide variety of books, with friendly staff who are very helpful. They also have an excellent feature where you can order a book on their website and have it delivered to their store for pick up. I believe they have ship to home options as well. This is very convenient but still allows us to support a local business which is the best of both worlds! read more

There really should be a way to give, not just a ZERO but a big black mark to warn people of a business like this book gallery. This business absolutely does not deserve our support or patronage. I am always in support of all small, independently owned businesses with my patronage and ALL CASH purchases but I will do without before I darken the doors of this evil pit again! I came in to pick up and pay cash for the substantial order I had made on the phone. The woman...dark frizzy hair...behind the counter was very sour to my upbeat, positive and friendly remarks. She could not even answer a question without snarling! I thought that the owner should know about this intolerably rude employee. I was shocked to find, at my inquiry of the owner's name, to find that this miserable witch was actually the owner!!! Stay away, stay away, stay away!!! That woman needs a message - go back under that rock and stay there, for the sake of humanity!!! I expect and hope to see this space available for a people friendly business in the near future! read more

Outstanding bookstore. Fantastic collection. Love shopping here. Staff are friendly. It's long and skinny so be sure walk the whole length. In every section I spotted thoughtful selections. There's a great graphic novel section. Also strong in local history. read more

This is a great little book shop! The best kept secret is the kids' area in the back by the "rear" entrance (i.e. not off the walking mall). There is a bin of toy trains and lots of books the kids can look at. It's a great stop to rest and play in a contained space, and pick up a new book or two. The prices are reasonable and it's a great way to support local business. My son loves getting to read the books first (versus an amazon purchase) and be sure it's one he likes before we purchase. There are two private reading rooms off the hallway in the back as well, which is lovely. I highly recommend this shop! read more

This is by far my favorite book store in the area. They have a great selection of books and the owners/ workers are so kind. The space is incredibly welcoming and comfortable and I could easily spend hours looking at all of the books. read more

Owner was rude to me and my family. She changed the hours to the store due to Wuhan red death, which is totally understandable. She was closing in 5 min and felt it necessary to tell me that she had put a sign on the front door stating so. I wasn't sure what to say at this point, was most uninviting .... I'm so sorry I inconvenienced you as an avid reader in search of a cute little bookshop from which to procure my little treasures of intrigue. Totally could have overlooked the left leaning/TDS, but after reading a couple of these other reviews and seeing "Dumpty" prominently displayed, well, you get my drift read more

What a great bookstore....this is someone's dream bookstore. A great, vast, eclectic selection of books for a small space...and an even cooler vinyl selection. You have to respect any store that carries vinyl....keeping the dream alive. Will definitely have to go again!! read more

We popped in on our way out of Winchester, but this store was super cute. The selection was pretty vast for being so teeny, and had I had some extra money to spend on books, I definitely would have bought a few. The married shop owners apparently went to elementary school together and they have their 1st grade class picture framed on the check out counter. How cute! I'd like to come back and spend more time here if it were closer. read more

This an excellent little book store on the walking mall in Old Town Winchester. They have a great mix of modern and classic lit, as well as cookbooks, biographies, and all manner of other books. The children's books are upstairs and they have a great assortment - don't miss that! They also offer quite a few titles on the Civil War and the history of the region. My son who is 23 likes this bookstore and we were in last week, we both made purchases. As a collector of rare books and classic literature this store didn't offer me much, but, it's cute and clean. Too many paperbacks for my taste. When leaving I was yelled at aggressively by a homeless man (he was much cleaner than the homeless man that is close to my home) for spare change, I said sorry no. He also had 3 men with him. I am 60 yr. old woman with arthritis. Don't like being yelled at, felt unsafe. Cut short my shopping because of that.Decided to call store to encourage owner or manager to notify Chamber & or police because it's bad for business. She told me they always encourage people to "be kind" to panhandlers, and if I wanted to shop there again they have two parking spaces at back of the building.I am kind, that's one reason why I support small businesses, they pay taxes too and they create jobs. However, Winchester is a day trip for me and when I go, it's for more than this bookstore. Won't be going back because their limited inventory of hardbacks (which are one of my favorite gifts to give family & friends) and the nonsensical response given to me by the owner. I don't need to be reminded to be kind by someone who has benefitted by my patronage. read more

I really love this bookstore. Its like they took one of those huge bookstores, a la B&N, picked it up and shook it and only the good, really cool, stuff fell out and landed here! They carry the "Lucky Peach" quarterly and seem to be the only place where I can ever find a copy. They are super friendly and have great taste selecting what they put on the shelves! read more

This is probably the best book store I've ever been to. I'm currently a Retail manager for a high volume outlet store and have worked in retail for the past 8 years. Every time I walk into this store I am always impressed with the knowledge, passion, and fervent customer service that I receive. The owner of this store knows how to run a business and run it well. Every person that works here makes sure their customer is top priority and works hard to create a space that is inviting while still urgent to meet your needs. It's relationship based selling at its best and I couldn't recommend this store enough. read more

dropped by here today on a day trip to winchester to pass the time with my boyfriend, and first we were really enjoying the store, i found a book i possibly was going to buy and we stumbled upon a room with a chess set and sat down to play a quick game of checkers. we were having a great time and the game had already ended after maybe 10 minutes when the employee peered into the room asking us what we were doing, after responding, she told us she hoped we were "respecting the room" as if she had caught us doing something inappropriate, then reminded us that this was a place of business and they needed people to buy things in order to stay in business, after that obviously i was not planning on buying anything, it was plain disrespectful, maybe it was because we're young, because we're latino, or because we're a couple, i don't know but it was just plain rude. im not sure if that's their go-to sales tactic but if they're having trouble staying in business i'd recommend getting rid of that employee or teaching some better sensitivity skills because i would've absolutely recommended this place before that interaction. very unfortunate. read more

Super cool locally owned bookstore. Big variety of local and national authors. Big fan of the cool posters, stickers and other non book items they carry as well. A no-brainer to visit whenever we are on the walking mall. read more
