#1 Sat in the outer waiting room forever as a new patient. Was last to be walked in…read more #2 Dental hygienist was great so that was a good thing, although too many touchy-feely questions for my like. I was there for a teeth cleaning, and some x-rays. #3 The tooth cleaning was less than impressive. Some of my deepest stains did not come out and they did not have answers for why they could not get them out "in my opinion". They were all ready to do extra fillers above my eye teeth to augment where the stains were. This would be at my cost, and would make the stains, invisible to the naked eye. #4 when I went to check out, I find out there is no coordination of benefits, which was never mentioned at any point when I spoke to the office manager or staff person during the initial interview. So now I'm going to have to file the extra paperwork myself. Not cool! #5 The straw that broke the camels back is several weeks later, when I receive the bill from the insurance company stating that this dentist office is out of network for my insurance company, which I specifically asked them to check and was told they "accepted my insurance". Now I don't know what that means to them, but to me, it means that they are in network for my insurance company. Surprise, they aren't! I owe almost $350. Again, not cool!

Over my 64 years I've been to many dentists with my many relocations and I must say that I find that Fanta and Dr Acton are excellent at what they do-cleaning and dental work. The facilities are bright and clean and most everyone is very pleasant and knowledgeable. I drive from Raleigh because I am so impressed. Call and speak with Mandy. She'll get you set up and on your way to a great dental experience! And I've had loads of dental work over the years... crowns, implants fillings at other dentists. They only do work when needed. That's why I stick with Cary Family Dental.

My daughter was a patient here for several years. I will preface this review by saying my daughter…read moregot along well with each of the dentists she saw over the years and they seemed to have good rapport with her. I have no doubt that the cleanings she received were good. Hence, 3 stars instead of 1. I held off on writing this review, but my daughter has seen multiple dentists now and I feel it might help other patients. We had a billing error after our first visit as they'd submitted the wrong code to our insurance and then tried billing us directly over and over for a cleaning, which was covered by our insurance. I wasted hours of my time on the phone with both Riccobene and our insurance. I even had a 3-way call with our insurance company and Riccobene to get it settled. I'd been told the issue had been fixed, but I kept receiving bills in the mail. It was extremely frustrating, but it was a mistake- which happens sometimes- so we stayed with the office. I started getting rubbed the wrong way by Riccobene during 2020 with the up-charge for PPE during the pandemic, which by comparison to other dentists, was well in excess of what other offices in the area were charging (as discovered in a discussion on NextDoor). It was annoying, but maybe just a sign of the times, and that wasn't enough to deter me from the office even after the billing error, so we stayed a few more years. Perhaps this started to generally sway my perception of the office as a money-grab, though. It was at my daughter's final visit that I really started to question the practice. After my daughter had been seen, I was told that she had some cavities. As a late teen, she'd never had a single cavity before, but I didn't necessarily doubt the possibility of a cavity or two. We would have been paying out of pocket for the fillings, which according to their invoice, would have been just shy of $700 (all out of pocket expense since it was not covered by our insurance). They were fully aware of this because they stated that our insurance wouldn't be covering it and the expense would be out of pocket. It was when we checked out after the appointment that things started feeling off and I got an uneasy feeling. It felt a whole lot like we just walked into a used car sales lot with an aggressive sales team that was really pushing us to schedule the fillings immediately. It gave me such a bad feeling that I decided to hold off on scheduling the fillings. Instead, I went with my gut and I got a second opinion at a different dental office. My daughter has been seen at two different dentist offices since then and she's been seen every 6 months. One visit was the same week we'd been seen at Riccobene. I've never heard of cavities magically disappearing, especially within a few days, but according to the other offices, she did not have any cavities then and she still does not have any cavities. I left the office after that last visit with Riccobene feeling like they were aggressively trying to charge us out of pocket to fill cavities that perhaps didn't even exist. After being seen elsewhere, I feel it more strongly about it. I'm very glad I didn't schedule the fillings on the spot or pay the ~$700 out of pocket while being pressured to do so. Perhaps it was an accidental misdiagnosis (per cavity), but if you're paying out of pocket and things don't feel right, I'd suggest asking for solid proof of the issues or getting a second opinion elsewhere before moving forward. I'm glad I did.

First of all, Riccobene required mounds of paperwork and then once an appointment was finally scheduled, they inundated me with texts, emails and phone calls about confirming my appointment which I did the first time. I had made it clear to the office that I only have x-rays every few years because of a past scare with thyroid cancer. When I arrived at my appointment, they told me that my x-rays of two years were too old and they would not be able to do anything, including cleaning my teeth without a whole new panel. It was very obvious to me that this practice is only concerned about making dollars. I absolutely do not recommend them.

I'm kind of disappointed. I found out about Dr. Cook from a post his wife made in a FB group awhile…read moreback. As soon as I got my dental insurance back, I immediately made an appointment. I was very thorough when I completed my forms in explaining my previous experiences & why I wanted to see Dr. Cook. I went in to my appt. today (Saturday) & was first shocked when I was asked for about $35 for uncovered X-rays that I would need that I wasn't forewarned about during any of the calls/texts made to me. Then, I was told there was an extra fee for using a card to pay this unexpected fee. Ok, I let that slide. During my cleaning with Val, I learned that Dr. Cook wasn't even there & I'd be seeing his associate. Ugh! Did they not read my paperwork??? I don't want to see his associate. I don't trust dentists at this point & was specifically giving Dr. Cook a chance, so please try to understand my disappointment by this entire appointment at this point. I spent 1.5 hours there to see someone else just to be told that I can come back to see Dr. Cook on a Monday, Tuesday, or Friday. I have to wait now until I can be off during the week to meet him & that's not going to be anytime soon. I made my next appointment for a cleaning, but I'm not sure if I'm even going. Im basically giving them a 3 star because the people I met were friendly. They just need to be more transparent & upfront about fees & make sure they are scheduling patients with who they actually want to see. After seeing the other dentist, my hygienist left me with another associate who did a panoramic scan on my mouth (I truly don't know why). From there was I taken to the front desk to check out. There was no flossing me. I didn't get a new toothbrush like at other dentists. What I did get was a cute cup at the end though. Thanks, Deja!

Each time I come in for an appointment, I am greeted by the friendly receptionist. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to answer any question that you may have. The staff here is phenomenal. I have to admit that before coming to this dentist office I hated going to the dentist. I don't like to use the word hate, but I don't know how else to describe it. Here, everyone is gentle and listens to your concerns. They ensure that you feel comfortable and routinely ask how you are feeling even when you are just getting a cleaning. I can't imagine going to another dentist office. I recommend this business to my friends whenever anyone mentions needing a new dentist.
