It is owned by the Centre Group, which was previously part of the Westfield Group, a multi-national based in Australia. The Westfield Group was split in 2014 into a Australia/New Zealand portion (Centre group which owns this mall) and the Westfield Corporation, which owns many shopping centers in Europe and the US, including many that I've been to (Westfield Old Orchard, Westfield Century City, Westfield Topanga, and Westfield Culver City). We spent a bit of time here while waiting for our reservation at the Sydney Tower, whose customer entrance is located in this mall.

But unlike in LA where they are not frequented, Market City was definitely hopping on a Friday afternoon. The vast majority of retail stores are Far East Asian (Chinese and Korean). There are grocery stores located in the bottom floor, along with beauty stores. There are also stand alone carts selling various knick knacks. It was worthwhile perusing them, and my brother ended up buying quite a few things.

They have a large selection of shops and restaurants ranging in prices from affordable bakeries and sushi to upscale restaurants. Heading to King Street Wharf for the evening on Saturday, we were a little stuck for parking. When…read morewe happened upon this underground carpark, we misread the sign to mean that it was $15 flat rate and headed in. The carpark is really well lit, well signposted and feels safe and secure. The lift from the parking level was clean and new and we exited directly on to the street, just a short walk to King Street Wharf. Only on returning to the carpark did we realise that in fact we'd interpreted the sign incorrectly and got whacked for $30. I still maintain the sign was misleading but who's listening!. There's a 2% surcharge for credit cards and despite several attempts it wouldn't read our card, though luckily we had cash. If you're not drinking and driving then at $30 it's still cheaper than a taxi but $15 flat rate would have been even better!

A couple of years ago it was a bit run down, but cheaper :-), The have since done it up with much better lighting, repainted it, and also updated the payment system, it used to be cash only, and now accepts credit cards. There are heaps of spots, and you shouldnt have a problem getting a spot, when it is busy you might have to go down one level. I like this car park too because of the really long escalator ride, it would be fun for kids as there are not many like this, and the wall are covered in artworks, though be warned that the escalator seems to be broken down quite often and its a bit of a hike. Tips..... Take your ticket with you, its a long walk to the payment booths! Make sure that you pay for your parking on the way back to your car. Remember where you park, as it has 3 sections that look similar.

Do not use this car park for an event at the Domain. It simply can not cope with large numbers of…read morevehicles trying to exit at the same time. It was utter chaos. Delays are only to be expected so we waited over an hour before going to our car. It took us 40 minutes to exit, which was well after midnight for an even that finished before 10.30. The most galling part was that after paying for our parking on returning to the car we then spent so long in the queue that we had to pay more at the gate to exit.
