Despite the team at this school seeing and hearing the fear in her voice (she couldn't breath...she was in horror and terrified), they refused to switch her out of the class with a bully. Mind you, this school has kids in sections all day. You are with the same group all day. Instead of switching her out of class, they insisted for a month, that forcing her to go to class would help. After 9 days of my daughter in horror of sitting in class all day with this child, I encouraged her to go (per their request). Day one of returning, this bully would not leave my daughter alone and shoved her. The team there says it never happened. They claimed to review cameras and that this never happened. This happened to other parents, and they refuse to provide evidence for parents to see. Meanwhile I have been able to provide a steady stream of evidence to the school, and they claim it's false. The PD has also shared this school has been made aware of this issue from a handful of parents. I've never heard my daughter cry in such fear before. Since they still refused to switch her out of the class, I brought her in so they can face her so they can say to her face (hyperventilating, crying and in terror) and say to her face that she is "lying". They all said they were "busy" twice while I waited. Not one person in their large leadership team could come out. This school took 30 days of inaction and has accused my child and my family of lying. This experience has been beyond traumatic for our child and our family. I am very disappointed in Great Hearts with how this has been handled. The leadership has been rude and condescending during this whole experience. I am telling everyone I know to avoid Great Hearts. They do not stand by their mission and values. Avoid this school at all costs.

My son is in his second year at Ingleside, and we love it. I truly believe he is getting a…read moreworld-class education here. He's been able to advance to the math level that makes sense for him--he's a 7th grader in Algebra--and I really appreciate that they try to get kids into a math that makes sense for where they're at. I also think they have a very decent set of electives. For instance, he's taking Forensic Science--which he loves--and he's signed up for Public Speaking/Debate in the spring. The principal, Dr. Michael, is both inspiring and very hands on. The teachers are experienced, and they seem to enjoy teaching kids this age. My son had a concussion at one point, and literally every single teacher was incredibly understanding and gave him significant time to recover and get caught up. We were very grateful. It's worth noting: to limit opportunities for bullying and misbehavior, the time between classes is tight. Middle schoolers are expected to take care of and speak up for themselves. So if someone needs water, they should bring a water bottle and fill it in the morning and at lunch. This means they have to step away from their friends for a hot second, but they figure it out pretty quickly. All in all, my son is getting a great academic education and he's learning to manage his time and speak up for himself with teachers. I'm very pleased with his experience and growth thus far! The NJHS program is wonderful thanks to Dr. Slamowitz, who goes above and beyond for the kids. She also teaches Forensics, which has been one of the highlights of my son's day. While the class is definitely challenging, he's developed a real passion for forensic science because of her engaging and inspiring teaching style. He even spends hours outside of school studying it on his own! The gifted program has been such a blessing--Ms. Wilson is so kind and supportive, and Ms. Holland makes learning both fun and meaningful. The front desk staff are always welcoming, quick to help, and truly make you feel part of the community. The new Resource Officer is fantastic--always on top of things and always with a smile. My son especially loves accelerated math with Ms. Clasby. He says she's one of the best math teachers he's ever had and really enjoys her teaching style. Of course, no school is perfect, but IMS is full of caring teachers and staff who work hard to make it a great place for students to learn and grow.

It has made such an impact on his on his life. He is so much more structured in his ways of life...and he is only 9. His first year at Veritas was great and he had a phenomenal teacher. I joked with that teacher, Mr. Haley, about him being Kai's teacher every year. It's also nice that parents get many volunteer opportunities so you can engage with your child and his/her class. That kind of engagement even help change my life and gave me weekly volunteer opportunities to be a part of with the children. On another note, it is also very neat that the school also just made a plethora of renovations and added a high school. It's wonderful to such forward progress so fast. I can only imagine what the future holds for this incredible school. I think it's great that the children have to wear uniforms and adhere to a strict appearance policies. Veritas is a classical academy so it really try to enforce that in everything. Not only are "normal" subjects taught like match and science, students choose between Greek and Latin, they read classic novels, learn and practice different genres of art, and they partake in Healthy Hearts. It is a really impressive curriculum. Also, the the extra-curricular activities are amazing: there's ballroom dancing, chess club, running club, sportball, just to name a few. I highly recommend Veritas to any parent who is looking for a well-structured, well-rounded, classical way of teaching. They require 120 hours of community service per parent and demand that you pay cash for hours unmet. Every single event is overpriced. Still you pay for it and then they ask for donations on top of it. Principal seems to rotate every year so any ground they gain is lost the next year. Principal always pawns off issues to the Teacher and the Teacher pawns off issues to the principal. Parking is terrible and super limited but they decided last year to close out most of the parking to install solar panels during the day. Not at night, not on school break but the middle of the school year. Stay far away from this place.

About a month ago I attended the 9th Annual Arcadia Edible Garden Tour. We visited some really…read morewonderful home edible gardens in the Arcadia area of Scottsdale, AZ . . . but the one that stood out beyond all the others was this elementary school. Arcadia Neighborhood Learning Center (ANLC) is an elementary school teaching its children where food really does come from - gardens and farms. And that grocery stores are only the middle man. The children have their own gardens - with veggies and flowers. Even the Preschool students have a garden. Once a month they have a visiting local Chef who comes and teaches a small group of students how to prepare food they have grown . . . and how to make it tasty. Young home garden farmers and chefs are being taught how to do it right. The ANLC is part of a 120-year history of the Scottsdale Unified School District - they've been educating our children since 1896 in both creative and traditional skills. And the children love it! If you live in this neighborhood and have young children, they are the lucky ones! Learning to grow and eat their veggies!
