The Ayden District Dog Park is a relatively new addition to the town of Ayden. I believe many…read morepeople still do not know about its existence. Given the relative dearth of dog parks in the area, this is such a welcomed feature for this side of town, saving many folks the drive to the Greenville Off Leash Dog Area. What I have heard others say about Ayden's Dog Park - and what I have witnessed myself - is the quality of the turf. The ground is hard and the grass is thick and covered, making it a nice and relatively clean place for dogs to run around and play, even after there's been some rain. My dog and I really enjoyed it here when we came to visit from Greenville, though the only downside (or not? depending...) is that I have never seen another dog there (yet). I do not think it has grown in popularity such that you can expect another playmate at all times. Sometimes, that is good, though, leaving more room for you to play with your fur baby!

This dog park is pretty awesome. It's tucked away near the main entrance. Watch out because not…read moreeverybody picks up after their dog, but it wasn't too bad and didn't stop our playing. There are two dog runs, both seem about the same size. Had a great time today playing with my very active dog! It makes for a nice change from the yard and he got to do a ton of sniffing. They have bags available for picking up dog doo and trash cans to dispose of it, and when it isn't winter it looks like they have water available (as well as restrooms in a short walking distance, also closed in winter). Note that it might not be perfect for those who want to throw frizbees or shoot balls out as far as they can; the runs aren't very big. A large dog can still run, just not for very long unless it wants to do a bunch of cornering. If you have an adopted greyhound, it would be too small for a safe full-speed run (though still way better than nothing).

He's small he gets nervous. He can get injured from being stepped on by a larger dog. There were 3 members of a family watching a smaller dog play and had a pitbull mix on a collar leash, not even a harness, in the small dog fence. I didn't know the dog, friendly? Not? Family wasn't friendly when I expressed my concern saying the dog was leashed. But a larger dog on simply a collar is still questionably controlled. They called me a racist, said I had no right to say the large dog shouldn't be in there. They said in a snarky way to 'do what ya gotta do' multiple times. I drove 20 minutes to let my dog run and couldn't take him off leash. I called the city of Greenville that said nobody could be there for an hour but just to keep my dog on a leash. This is supposed to be an off leash dog park! The trip was a waste of time and I left. I got the name of the person, As I left I was told that my skin doesn't handle the sun well and to get something on my reptile skin. How is this ok? I'll never financially support the park or the city of Greenville but I'm not rich so I guess it doesn't matter. The family was rude & inconsiderate. They claimed I felt entitled in a public park in the SMALL dog fence. The city of Greenville told me to call if something happened. No, my dog is precious and I'd never chance it. I was bit by a dog in the past trying to get to my dog. I have mobility issues & use a handicap placard so I cannot walk him distances. I'm very disappointed in my home town. Why would I return to the park? Below is a photo if the dog that they let loose running after I left in the small dog fence. Even if a friendly dog simply not appropriate. My dog got a pup cup afterwards to make up for not getting to run. Since then I've had other people tell me that they won't return either. Some even have large dogs but had other bad experiences. A few bad apples can ruin it for some of us.

But there is plenty of room to run, a great watering station, a lot of poop bag dispensers and trash cans, there are even some old school scoops and shovels for you to pick up the Poo with!! Although it appears that very few do? But the park is mostly grass there are a few places where it is dirt. It has a lot of old growth trees. And the people that come here seem to be very friendly and the dog seem to be very social. I think you can either park at the curb as you drive into the park or if you continue on a little further there is an actual parking lot. And the entryway is, well, big and long? I think they could have made better use of that entry area and space. But that won't stop your baby from having fun!

Like some others have mentioned, the problems with the park aren't really pertaining to the park…read moreitself. It's usually the people who come to the park. Every so often you get someone not cleaning up after their pet, a rambunctious pup that doesn't know their own size, a h*mper, or an aggressive dog. Those are more owner issues, and with a park being public space, there's no real way to curb that. You just have to be on alert. Besides those things, my main issue is the height of the fences and that IS a park issue. It's right by a road people usually speed through, and among the many dogs I have and foster, one of them is a treeing walker coonhound. If you know anything about that breed, you know they be tree-walking. They tree-walk trees mostly, but they'll happily tree-walk their furry butts right over a fence if it's short enough. These fences are more cake-walk than tree-walk for my hound. I can't bring her here. She will yeet herself over that fence and right off the doggie census. That said, assuming your dog is not a fence-jumping maniac, it's a fun place.

The big dog park and the little dog park are two completely separate parks, in fact you have to walk over a little Bridge to get to the big dog park from the little dog park!! There are plenty of poop bag holders and trash cans and there are a few little benches around for you to sit on. There are a couple of agility items and a fire hydrant!! Wouldn't be a dog park without a fire hydrant. The ground covering is kind of like bark chunks? If you have weak ankles it's a little hard to walk on. But there are some old groceries and plenty of room for your dogs to run around and have fun. There is parking very close although you do have to walk across a little Bridge unless you're going to the small dog park.

They call themselves "the birthplace of independence" hmm as a Philadelphian I feel we have claim to that slogan. I rummaged through the brochures available outside to see what they had to support their claims and I can't say they brought it. In their favor, they do have a cryptozoology museum which my kid would like. Anyway very clever means of drawing traffic and piquing curiosity. Dog runs open later than the visitor center, which is helpful. As far as I could tell they don't lock the gates so probably available throughout the evening. The fences are 4' high so you can jump them if it's 2am and your dog is desperate to run. It was a bit of a cluster-f getting from 95 to this place amidst too much crammed into too little space around 95. I was there Friday for a Wake Forest Fungo baseball game. The team and league are comprised of college baseball players (mainly division 2 & 3) who play for the summer. The field they are on has been improved from an open cut infield to a grass one and they built an announcers box and snack stand. They also added batting cages and covered stands on both sides. It was fun coming out although is was hot and close to 100 degrees at game time which was 6:30pm. They do sell light snacks, soda and beer at the venue.
