Clearwater at Sonoma Hills targets families in crisis and withholds critical information until it's too late. I have filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD). Sales Director H***** Sch**** pressured us by saying they only had one room left, and "I needed to grab it", then quickly collected our $8,455 from me with a written promise the deposit was "100% refundable." The place was always empty, which should have been my first clue, despite reading about some other bad experiences I naivly gave over my our retirement money under duress. She never once mentioned a refund timeline or any conditions before, during, or at the time of payment, despite having SO many opportunities, which is misleading at best, if not downright unscrupulous and intentional omission AKA LYING! My mother has Alzheimer's. Ho***e had met her in person multiple times before taking our money. When a nurse conducted a formal assessment, it was immediately clear my mother needed memory care, not assisted living ...something any industry professional who had spent time with her should have known. We were steered into a placement that was never appropriate just so they could hold a large sum of cash and likely reinvest it and make money off our backs, all while we were in CRISIS. Only after I requested the refund did H****E reveal for the first time that processing takes "3-4 weeks, sometimes more" !!! WTF Every interaction following was dismissive and COLD. A follow-up went completely unanswered. I was forced to file a credit card dispute because I was accruing interest on $8,500 for TWO BILLING CYCLES while paying out of pocket for emergency in-home care. Clearwater's response? MY dispute will delay the refund even further! Blame shift much?! This is a pattern. Large deposits collected from desperate families. Material information deliberately withheld. Zero urgency when it's time to give the money back...sound familiar? If you are considering this facility, look up their inspection history at ccld.dss.ca.gov (license #496803860) and do not pay a deposit without getting every condition and timeline in writing first. There is so much to say. First, the people who work there care deeply about the people who live there. When we met Lisa, we met someone who listened deeply, helped us solve any problem we could think of, and suggested solutions only after really understanding Jackie's needs. The tour she shared made us feel so comfortable with what life is like at BC. She was so thoughtful and considerate with helping us find a charming apt with a deck and outside area where Jackie's wee dog could get outside whenever she needed to. When Jackie's needs shifted, Lisa found a special place for Jackie in the memory care area, a bright, cheerful room, where she can look out at beautiful redwoods from anywhere in the apt. The attendants encourage her to engage with others and she feels quite at home there. When we met Robert, the GM, we knew we had met an advocate who is very flexible and such a problem solver that literally nothing seems like a problem for long. We know we can go to him with anything and he will find a way to "make it so." He has been wonderful to Jackie and us. When we worked with Stephanie to create Jackie's personal care plan, we trusted her thoughtful, comprehensive recommendation because it reflects just what Jackie needs, nothing more, nothing less. Her recommendations helped us make decisions we are very comfortable with, decisions which get Jackie just what she needs. My mother is in skilled nursing, and I have found the care to be excellent, the workers compassionate and respectful. I live very far away, and look forward to my visits as I always make some new friends. After a recent visit, my daughter said she felt as if she'd gained many "grandparents" there :) I'm a musician I always try to find a moment to share in that way when I'm there, as that's my way of connecting. The sense of community between the workers and residents alike is evident. I'm very grateful to say that my mother is at home there. The grounds are beautiful, I love to take my mom out for a stroll to enjoy the landscaping, as well as the residents' own individual gardens. It's a happy place.

He moved there 6 months ago, 9 years into his Parkinson's battle, with occasional dementia. This is the first facility that HE wasn't constantly asking us to move him from, although he did still occasionally wish he could come home. His previous facilities I would say had an adequate staff. They met the needs. But they didn't truly care about the residents, get to know them, joke with them, empathize with them, treat them like they were their friends and family. Marina, Donna, Sonia, Maria, Hercules, and the others went out of their way to make Dad, and the other patients, feel special. The food is excellent! They host fun events, like Casino Night, and some of the ladies there acted more like they were on a cruise ship than in a care facility. It's clean, and it doesn't have that "hospital" smell. They have a variety of enrichment activities daily and encourage residents to come out and mingle. They also have a beautiful center courtyard so the residents can go outside as they please and not feel trapped. Unfortunately my father passed away last week, and while we were there at the end, the caregivers were gently attentive to my dad, making sure he was clean and comfortable until the end, and comforting to us as well. I only wish we could pick up this facility, and all of it's staff, and move them closer to Livermore for my mother in law.
