This is my first time dropping a boat in at this ramp. As a matter of fact it was not in the Yelp system. It's operated by Norfolk Parks & Rec.
Location is at the foot of the HRBT on the West Norfolk side. Access is off of Shore Drive 2 blocks, you will see s flashing yellow and sign for 64. There is also access from 64 EB Willoughby Spit exit, make a left and travel less than a mile.
The parking lot is gigantic! It's old, but not chucked up either. Unfortunately all the lines have faded, so park as you wish unless your vision is better than mine. Good news is no parking fee and I saw no signs requiring stickers.
There is a single porta potty at the entrance. I won't lie, it's sketch and I did not even open it. There was a single bag of trash in front of the door. Other than that the parking lot had only minor debris. There are no ice machines, or vending. The place is a straight forward launch.
The piers are newer. Two slips accommodate four boats. No issues getting the boat in. The area was clear of debris. There is no attendant on duty. Norfolk PD do routinely patrol. I saw them twice. I have no reason to believe the area is unsafe, but I personally would not want to launch at night.
This is a nice place for launching. Just don't expect any type of amenities that you may see say in Virginia Beach. It's free to park and it's free to launch. Good deal! read more
