As our first choice didn't pan out, we trooped into this country pub tired and hungry expecting mediocrity. The patrons looked a tad 'rough'.
The interior and soft furnishings has seen better days. Everything looked dated and tired. The poor lighting doesn't help either.
Mind your step if you are heading to their cosy dining space. It was occupied by a group of 8 people. A slow lunch it seems in the middle of the lunch trade.
After deciding from the menu and Specials Board, we trooped to the bar to place our orders for drinks and food.
Food came out in a timely manner, and was all served together - kudos to the kitchen for getting this small, but important point right.
A couple of people had the garlic prawns, I chose the Kassler plate. Other dishes included a vegetarian lasagne and schnitzels.
Presentation was rather old-fashioned, but that's okay, as long as the food quality is there. And....it was! Everyone praised their meals. The portion size was just right, some on the generous side like mine.
Having said that, I had one issue, which was how salty my meal was. The horseradish and sauerkraut did little to balance. I did drink a fair bit of water while eating my meal.
For what it is, I think it pumps out decent pub fare. Happy to stop in again if I ever come this way. read more
