He always acts like its a burden to help a customer. The first job I took to him was a 5x7 print that I need 150 copies of. I brought the files as PDFs, properly formatted, with all the necessary marks and bleeds. The owner proceeded to complain because I hadn't laid it out with two copies on each page. They advertise themselves as a full service print shop and that they have graphic designers on staff. A full service print shop should have no problem ganging two prints together but I was treated like it was some terrible burden. I like their work but I don't like doing business with people that talk down to their customers.

Now I will admit I am a nervous person who takes a second to get to the point, and I did come in with PNGs instead of PDFs (my mistake) but instead of explaining that, the man was plain and simple a huge dick. He acted like my whole presence was a burden and tried to direct me to a more artsy business I had already checked the prices of that was a little out of my price range (which is fine if he wasn't so condescending about it). He acted like I had just entered a gas station and asked where the lobster was. I think it's pretty natural to ask a printing place if they can do quality art prints, but I guess I am the stupid one. I would have probably spent almost $300 there to get prints to stock my store, but due to his general lack of tact and higher-than-all attitude I will probably never return to the grungy basement facilities of Hiatt Printing. While I'm sure there are plenty of great local printers out there, I had no time to dilly dally and needed someone that could answer by questions and get this process on the road quickly. My lovely friend that does PR here in DC, suggested Cori Graphics because the owner goes way back with his boss. He assured me that this sounded like something they would have no problem doing and was certain they would be thorough and accommodating. He was absolutely right. Not only was a pressed for time, but I wasn't even sure all of the details to request. Cori Graphics took the time to walk me through how different print jobs would work, what he would need from me and even connected with one of my colleagues that had developed the files that needed printing. The quote was fair and I was crystal clear what he needed from me, by when as well as how to process the payment and when to expect delivery. So, I then gave them my recently completed book (my first) about my grief journey that I both authored and added a painting to every page. He copied all 35 pages, adjusting each one for vibrancy of color and position, cut them and bound them together with a coil as this is my Christmas present for my family.
