I'd like to lay to rest many of the misconceptions about W&F Corp. My encounter with their agency was short in one way and very long in another, I had an unresolved student debt account for some time, and when I called to resolve it the people I spoke to, Compliance Officer Bob D. and CSR (I assume) Denise W. they were extremely helpful. It seemed as if it was more of a goal to help me rather than to collect on an ancient account. I cannot compare this company to other collections agencies as this is one of only two encounters, however I can, and gladly will compare this to any other customer service experience I've had. The professionalism, service, and sincerity I received from this company was unparalleled. The customer service agent answered all of my questions politely and offered assistance at every turn, before turning me over to the compliance officer, who was also very courteous, and helpful, not to mentioned resolved my issues that day. All in all a very good experience with this company. It's almost a shame I won't be doing any more business with them, although that's not of any fault of their own. Thank you W&F. read more

This agency is scum. They offered a "settlement" plan and then lied about the account being settled, sold it to another agency, and they are tying to collect an already 'settled" balance. Don't listen to anything they say. They are all liars. read more

This business is great to help pay off debts, but the receptionist is so rude and not willing to help you at all. She will catch an attitude very fast with you and will hang up on you. I work in customer service and I would never do that to someone, especially when they are not even being rude. They need to train their receptionists better. I could hear people in the background cursing up a storm as well. They need a course on better professionalism. If I did not need help paying off my debt, I would not recommend. read more

Williams and Fudge is absolutely a scam. Settle your debt directly with whatever University you may owe. I spoke with a Shaina Hairston on January 17, 2025 claiming that I owed $1,033.33 which was incorrect but I let her send me the information anyway. I had not heard anything else from her. Although, I called multiple times to seek assistance from her. Fast forward to last week, January 28th, a woman named Alice Evans called and gave me the same run down about the debt and told me that if I paid it by the 30th it would not be reported on my credit report. She also said that I would receive a letter from Shaina after it posted, stating that the debt had been satisfied. I told her to pull it on the 29th, it posted on the 30th. Here it is February 5, and I still have not received ANYTHING from Shaina Hairston or Alice Evans. Nor have they sent anything to my University. I have called multiple times and conveniently both of them have "taken off today" or are "unavailable", and it's been only foreigners answering the phone now. The Hispanic woman I talked to on Monday said that they only send notices out during the first 7 days of the month. Which is BS, because legally you're supposed to report it immediately. For the record, they know exactly who's calling because they screen the calls. When I've called, they've said this is (my name) right? Yet, once I asked to speak to a supervisor all of a sudden they need to "verify" my name and information. The last person I spoke with legitimately tried to debate with me saying he couldn't transfer me to a supervisor without my name although my information was already established. They then transferred me to a nonresident voicemail box, then began hanging up on me when I kept calling back. That is bad business. read more

Absolute s*** debt collector. Called me over a dozen times a day for several weeks at all hours between early morning and late evening. Incredibly rude, completely unconcerned about my current financial situation, and borderline coercive. Today they called my mother (no idea how they even got her number) and started questioning and harassing her. That was the last straw for me. This place is a joke. Granted, my University falsely submitted a claim (I left the school in 2008 and they had fees charged to my account for being a student in 2009... the late fees compounded to over a grand because I was unaware). So to start, this was a bogus and easily de-bunked claim. All W&F needed to do was get the University to submit my 2009 enrollment (what classes I was taking) to prove that I was a student. They never did-- all they kept saying to me was, "[University] has validated these claims. You owe an ungodly amount of money." While I waited for them to fax me said validation--and to keep this postponed so it didn't go on my credit report-- I paid 10%. Foolish me. For the next three years. THREE YEARS. I called W&F over and over and over to try and get this resolved. I was always promised proof of this charge and it was never sent. I found it comical to be calling a credit agency to pester THEM instead of the other way around. W&F called me once. The first and only call I ever got about my claim was when they told me it existed and how much I owed. I left them so many messages, went through so many representatives... ugh. What a waste of time. Finally, I got through to someone to help me sort out this mess. At W&F, you may ask? Nope. At my University. It's the University's policy to not handle anything that has been sent to collections, but I think the poor woman at the Registrar's office felt so bad for me that she bent the rules, found the error, dismissed all the charges, and contacted W&F to delete my case. (I had tried this tactic previously and had been shot down by not-as-generous University employees. If you're ever in this situation, keep calling and trying different people at the University. Eventually someone will feel sorry for you.) Now that I no longer OWED money, it was time to recoup that 10%... I called the main manager at W&F, Bob Donkle, whose immediate response was, "Well, if they dismissed the charges, they did it knowing you had paid that money, so your record is clear AFTER that money was recouped." Nope. Nope, nope, nope. I explained how the charge was never supposed to be made in the first place and I was definitely owed that money back. After three years of them not only NOT doing their job, but also making a resolution exponentially more difficult, I was dead set on getting my freaking money back. To his credit, Bob worked with his team to get in touch with University. I had a check in my hands within 2 weeks. It was the first time anyone at W&F actually did their job. So, the resolution was finally in my favor, but it was NOT because of W&F. They didn't vet the charge; they never returned my calls; they never gave me "proof" of anything; they didn't take my complaints to University... They didn't do anything to resolve the situation. Even more pathetic was they didn't even try to collect the money that I supposedly owed them! It was this weird limbo. It was as if they knew the charges were bogus so they didn't harass me about them, but they never tried to fix the situation. I just had this damaging credit report looming over me and no one to help fix it. I'm just glad it's over. If anyone is having to deal with W&F, I suggest going to the direct party to sort it out. W&F is absolutely worthless. read more

I was called by Max Simmons this morning. He was incredibly rude asking me to settle my debt with my university. He called me irresponsible multiple times and kept saying that I didn't know what I was talking about. When I called back to make a complaint, I spoke to his manager Laurie Sneed (sp?). She was also unhelpful and dishonest. Multiple times she said she hadn't heard the call and would need to review. Then she slipped and quoted Max verbatim and tried to say she'd just walked by his desk. She also said that she didn't understand what else he was supposed to call me besides irresponsible because I wasn't taking any of the options I was given. If William & Fudge want to collect debts for companies, they need to have a little more tact. Lecturing people and insulting them must be the business model but I can't see how it benefits anyone. I was contacted by this debt collection agency in March 2021. They claim I owe a student loan from the year 1978. First of all you can not obtain your transcripts or hard copy degree when u have unpaid student loans. Furthermore, this is the first correspondence I have ever received. I have not been living under a rock for 40 years and I retired from the Federal government after 32 years service in 2014 from an Agency that required a big security clearance. This company called me and asked for an Elizabeth Pattel. They have the first name right for me, and they had MY number and I suspected something was up since I had a someone give my phone number to ZiffDavis publications. I am tired of getting calls from random companies so I asked the rep on the phone what other details they had of this "Elizabeth Pattel" person to make sure they didn't get any of my other information to spam me with. I am tired of people falsly representing my company and I am about to take legal action. I explained this to the rep and they got very irate with me, even though I'm trying to protect myself and possibly others that have fallen victim to this kinda thing. For the past few days, a rude representative has been calling me. When I asked her what company or collection she was calling me about, she refused to answer (which is illegal for a collections service in CA). I have the right to know why you are calling by law and what company you are "representing"! After conducting my own research I realize that Ashford University sent my (under $300 bill) to "Williams & Fudge" for collections (even after I made payments every month and I am in good standing on my student loans. Gotta love the new student loan debt system in America). Regardless, they way that this company is behaving calling & threatening me using my date of birth & social, without giving me real information is ridiculous. I plan to write a formal complaint because I cannot have a respectable conversation with someone who is behaving indecently and calling me at 8 a.m. in a threatening manner. Maybe the bill would get paid if your reps could behave in a professional way and tell me why they are calling, along with how much I owe. I can actually pay it. But- since your reps want to act indecently with threats I think i'll wait. Instead of calling me and threatening me (which is totally illegal in CA and completely unnecessary) maybe you should TRAIN your reps that they are dealing with educated COLLEGE graduates (not thugs such as they are). This company called me harassing me about my brother. Meaning somehow they googled his relatives and found phone numbers to start calling. He wouldn't state what the company was or what the call is for just that there was a business inquiry and wouldn't stop trying to get my brothers phone number or tell me why. I had to look up the company myself to find out who the heck they were. The man was extremely aggressive trying to get my younger brothers private information from me. I think they conduct business in a very sketchy way and I don't appreciate them abutting mine or my family's privacy. read more

I received a random email from them. Asking for me to punch in my last four digits of my SS in an email to open up their document. But I have never heard of them or why they wanted me to open up their email. Shouldn't they reach out by phone or at least in an email/ or mail telling you who they are and why they need your personal information. Their methods sounds illegitimate. read more

This agency called a neighbor who i am not associated with and had the neighbor hand deliver a message for me to call the agency. on 1/30/2014 my neighbor received a phone call from Robert at Williams and Fudge, phone number 803-326-1348 asking if he knew who I was- that I lived next door, and that he needed to get an important message to me. This neighbor is not a friend or associate of mine- just one of thousands of people who live in my neighborhood- and not a person that I would have ever listed as any type of contact or reference. I don't even have that persons phone number, so I don't know how they would have gotten it! I must add that I was just in contact with the Williams and Fudge representative 2 weeks ago and requested some paperwork be sent to me, so the rep knew my current number and address and had a viable means of contacting me. How can this be a legal business practice? Do they have the right to start calling anyone who lives in a specific area and have them start coming to my door? I live in a downtown area and I certainly have neighbors who would not take kindly to such intrusive phone calls and this could put myself and my family at risk. This is beyond inappropriate and is a gross violation of my privacy and fair collection practices. read more

This company is a SCAM. I called to pay a balance my school reported to them for $3677.00. They tell me that I owe $4774.00. Now over $1000 to pay a past due debt. This is rediculous. They are badgering students and taking advantage of us. If I didn't have the $3677.00, why would you hike it up over $1000.00. I am in talks to now with my school, because even my school mentioned that this is absurd. They will be contacting the agency. Whoever added this astronomical fee to my debt will pay severly. I am having to go to the direct party to sort things out. This company is so bent on trying to make their little commission that they are not willing to work out anything. This is a sad job to have. I am so glad I am finishing my degree in Software Engineering so that I don't have this crappy job. If you owe them, do not let them trick you into paying an amount with a thousand dollar fee on top. I got a call "in regards to (a person I had never heard of)" who had "listed (me) as a potential girlfriend". When I probed a bit asking where this person was calling from and why, they revealed that I'd been removed from their database. So I asked if this was a database call or if someone had actually listed me. Bottom line, if you get calls from this place- don't answer. It's likely a database scam. Also, they wouldn't provide any information to me on the person who had allegedly listed me as their significant other and when I started asking questions, this operator busted out "i don't know why you care so much, I've removed you from the database." Right, so I get a call before 8am, in regards to a person I've never heard of who has listed me as a potential girlfriend and I have no reason to ask questions. I hope the BBB shuts this operation down because it's completely illegitimate. Also, the operator was a total donkey. read more
