I had a nasal valve revision and a medically necessary septoplasty to correct my airway-- this should have also included a straightening of my septum/ airway. I went to Dr. P as he was recommended by a friend of a friend, and I regret not doing more research. 1. It is almost a year later and my nose is still numb and I've had to treat 3 sinus infections with antibiotics this year (a problem I have never ever had before surgery). 2. Whenever I reached out to share my concerns about bleeding, infection and persistent numbness, I was repeatedly gaslit, being told "well that's normal and we told you it could take years to heal." No actually, I was told 2-3 months max. 3. In addition to numbness, discomfort, and recurrent infection, my nose is still crooked and my airway is not as open as it could be. I was so traumatized by the first surgery, I don't even want to find another surgeon to make a revision, let alone let him do it! After reading these reviews it seems like they want you to have as little information up front as possible and it benefits them financially for you to come back for a revision. I met with a new ENT today and they said "I would have never sent you to him. I can't legally tell you why." Don't do it. read more

This is so unfortunate to have to write this because my heart was set on hiring him for my REVISION RHINOPLASTY surgery. I was ready to write him a check for the deposit and schedule my surgery, but then today happened. I found Dr. Portuese on Instagram, like many of us probably have. I had 1 brief consultation over the phone last year (due to COVID, he was doing free, quick phone consultations). I was pleased with that experience and booked an in-person consultation in Seattle, which they told me was the next step toward surgery. I live in San Diego, so I booked in advance and drove up the coast to meet the doctor in person. That experience went well, and went home to San Diego with my paperwork and started deciding when I wanted to schedule the surgery. Since having 2 previous nose surgeries, it is very important to me that I take every step possible to make this my last. So naturally, I had questions and wanted clarity of expectations before scheduling the surgery. I have attached the email exchange between me and his assistant, Janet, so you can see exactly what was said by both parties. Because I had questions, Janet advised me to schedule a FaceTime appointment with the doctor to go over any remaining questions. That was today. My understanding of this appointment was that it was supposed to be us revisiting the expectations I have, confirming we are on the same page, and then scheduling the surgery. HOWEVER, I had red flag after red flag after red flag. Red flag #1: I never received a confirmation text of the appointment (Janet told me this would occur) Red flag #2: I called 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment time to double check I did, in fact, have an appointment. The office assistant dropped major attitude with me, as if to say with her tone of voice, "why the hell are you calling us? we OBVIOUSLY have your appointment scheduled and we're OBVIOUSLY going to call you." When I told her thank you for checking, she hung up on me. No good-bye, no you're welcome. Just a CLICK. Red flag #3: 15 minutes after my appointment and no phone call. So I call again. They tell me the doctor couldn't get ahold of me. Turns out they have the wrong number on file. Interesting...that could have been verified when I called earlier, but okay... Red flag #4: One of the first things Dr. Portuese says when we get on the FaceTime call is, "we have to make this quick, because we've already spent HOURS answering your questions." He then went on to tell me that I've sent PAGES of emails and wasted HOURS of his staff's time. Which is why I have attached the emails he's talking about with this review. It's very clearly not that. Dr. Portuese and his staff made up their minds about me that I am a difficult patient who cannot be pleased. It was a VERY unprofessional experience and it was obvious he did not want my business, even though he didn't use his words to tell me that. I had to decipher that through all of his sweeping generalizations made about me and my character, in attempt to guilt me for having questions about my surgery. When it comes to something as delicate as elective, cosmetic surgery, you would think a plastic surgeon would understand, especially after years in the business, that bedside manner is what helps patients the most. This doctor clearly doesn't have it. If you are someone who knows what they want, knows how to ask for it, and values clear and direct communication, this doctor is NOT for you. Dr. Portuese & his staff are literally the best. From my consult to the to preop & surgery itself. The team of nurses are amazing & so caring & comforting. The anesthesiologists is SO kind & compassionate & talked me through everything & genuinely cared about me-she was so authentic. Kelley answered my never ending questions, Angela & Mandy are knowledgeable & so helpful & I'm forgetting a few people but only because I'm terrible with names. The cute woman that did my pictures:) was super patient with how terrible l am at taking directions. Every single person made me feel cared for on every level & at every single point in this process. I called this Dr's office to request a consultation. The operator had a very rude tone and weird attitude from the beginning and failed to provide any information. When I reached out to them through their Instagram, their attitude was even weirder. Do not waste your money here. If they have to be rude for no reason, Don't trust them with your procedures. I feel so lucky to have found Dr Portuese. Dr Portuese and his staff made my entire process so smooth and always felt that they had my best interests at heart. It has been almost one month since I had my rhinoplasty and let me tell you, I could not be any happier!!!!! I had been waiting for this moment since I was in high school (10 years ago). I had to look hard for a photo that would show how my nose used to be because I would NEVER take side profile photos. I had always been self conscious even though people would always tell me they never even noticed I had a big bump. Dr. Portuese is meticulous in his approach to each surgery. I have had Dr. Portuese perform upper blepharoplasty, neck and lower face lift, as well as brow lift with excellent results. I want to start off my review by saying I know how difficult it is to find a plastic surgeon that is "right" for you. It's a big decision and it's really anxiety inducing, and also you need to be in a really good mental place because if you have any sort of BDD you're going to hate your result no matter if it's good or bad. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Portuese. I have wanted a rhinoplasty for a decade and saw at least 5 surgeons for consultations before seeing him. I really appreciated how sweet everyone in his office was, how honest he was about which results were achievable for me (big bulbous nose, thick skin, small bump), and he made me feel like I have nothing to worry about. I have only got my wisdom teeth out and was super nervous about going under, but the experience was so comfortable and so fast! I don't even remember going to sleep and I woke up in pain but his staff were so accommodating and compassionate through the entire process. My recovery was also super easy, I barely had any swelling/bruising. I could breath within a WEEK. And my nose is only getting better and better. He's an artist. You might feel like "oh everything is so quick and it feels like I'm just one of many surgeries he's doing". Well you are, and that's not a bad thing. This guy has experience and knows what he's doing. I don't feel like a cosmetic surgeon needs to hold your hand every second. I liked the experience because it didn't freak me out, it was very straight forward, and I got a straight forward result that was honestly better than expected. DANGEROUS MD - STAY AWAY! Dr. Portuese performed a rhinoplasty on me. Post operatively he said that I needed steroid injections in my nose to control swelling. On a post-op visit he took a vial of medication out of a cupboard, drew up the "steroid" himself and injected it into my nose. When he went back to the vial of medication on the counter, he paused and began muttering and mumbling incoherently to himself. After an awkwardly long period of time of Dr. Portuese carrying on to himself, I wondered if I should get someone from the office to come into the exam room. Dr. Portuese finally turned back to me and asked me what my occupation was. I told him that I was a registered nurse. He told me I could go and he carried the vial of medication out of the room with him so that I could not see it. HIDE MISTAKE It took me a while to figure out why he behaved this way. I am certain that he realized he had injected the wrong medication into my nose. Directly after his injection, I began to have problems with my nose being cold, painful and purple. The problems continue to this day. I have been a registered nurse for 33 years. Certain medications should never be injected into an appendage (finger, toe, nose) as they can cause necrosis because they damage the capillary circulation. I know that Dr. Portuese injected a wrong medication into my nose AND HE KNEW IT. Rather than acknowledging his mistake and allowing me to get help, he hid his mistake to protect himself. I believe Dr. Portuese, as a physician, is DANGEROUS! Dr. Portuese caused permanent injury to me. I have to live with a heating pad on my face and take vasodilator medications to help preserve circulation to my nose. At a later visit when I asked him about my circulation problems, he chose his words carefully and said that nothing from his surgery would cause them - knowing it was his medication error, not the surgery itself. He continued to hide his mistake. My nostrils were symmetrical prior to him operating, but after his surgery, my right nostril had a notch in it. I asked Dr. Portuese if he sliced it during the procedure. He said, "No!" but told me he could fix it, but I would have to pay again. DENY MISTAKE As an RN I have encountered many physicians, based on my experience with Dr. Portuese: he is NOT CAREFUL, he is DISHONEST and he is DANGEROUS. Dr. Portuese's mistake resulted in continuous face pain for the rest of my life. I consider myself fortunate that I have not had to have the end of my nose amputated because Dr. Portuese injected the wrong medication into my nose and covered up his mistake. His beautiful office is what made me feel like his work was going to be good (along with his before and after pics), but he literally spent 30 minutes doing my rhinoplasty and made my deviated septum worst. I had a rinoplasty with Dr. P in 2006, and instead of just bitching Im going to give the hard core pros and cons. Firstly though I'd like to explain my situation. I broke my nose when I was five (no joke) on the back of my girlfriend's head, when we colided at speed on the monkey bars. This left my septum slightly deviated and left a bump on the bridge of my nose. My tip also had a little split in it which looked like a butt (to me anyway ) which I also wanted fixed. ok so here it goes... PRO: 1)seems to really lisen well during the first consultation 2)nose lookes ok from first glance (but not under scrutiny. .. so posably a con?) CON: 1) pain control was lousy, I was sent home in tears! 2) surgery office felt more like a revolving door, get ya in and out as fast as possible with no real one on one attention. .. 3) my nose leaks ...yes I said leaks! not allergies, but truly leaks all the time! 4) my right side is almost totally colapsed now 5) it swells realy really easy (I did talk to him about this issue and he just brushed me off :-( ) So I hope that helps all of you in computer, tablet and smart phone land...and also incase you were wondering the surgery cost me about 10k ... alot of moola to have a nose that isn't very functional! read more

Dr. Portuese botched my rhinoplasty. There clearly was too much taken off the bridge of my nose which collapsed and basically is classified as a saddle nose deformity. He had also dissected my columella which caused it to retract into the nose and look unnatural and unattractive. There was nothing wrong with my columella and it should have been left alone. The 4 grafts that were placed inside my nose were put in incorrectly. My original nose was much better than this and I wish I had never done the procedure. Most likely what happened to my bridge was that I got a blood clot that he caused and would not address afterwards. This completely destroyed my cartilage in my bridge and it had to be rebuilt with my own rib cartilage. I had sent multiple emails with my concerns describing a large bump and swelling and I was dismissed every time. This lump was a blood clot that could have been drained saving my cartilage and I am lucky, I didn't get a horrible infection. Mistakes happen but it was completely unacceptable to pretend that nothing was wrong! How does one blame a collapsed bridge for just a swelling issue! It was clear from the multiple photos and in person visit at 6 months that I had a saddle nose deformity. Instead of providing accurate information I had to figure out what was wrong from other surgeons. Obviously one has to wait a year for a revision but that is not an excuse to withhold information. When a doctor is dishonest, untruthful, providing inaccurate information, and or withholding information from a patient it constitutes lying. Lying is beyond unprofessional, it's malpractice. Dr. Portuese lied and said I have thick skin which causes excess swelling when I do not have thick skin. I had to demand to be seen in person. Even when I showed up for the in person visit he tried to run away because I was 5 minutes late because he knew he messed up. He is the most arrogant person I have ever met, a complete degenerate. The right thing would be to refund the procedure. But if you read all his negative reviews he never admits to wrongdoing or refunds. It was not a complicated case. I now also have a ton of scar tissue inside my nose. Dr. Portuese is a terrible surgeon who will pretend nothing is wrong and try to blame it on swelling. The ppl that do go back for a second time aren't able to fix his mistakes. Thankfully my nose was fixed by Dr. Stefan Shuaib, an amazingly talented surgeon. It took 5 hours to fix the damage to my nose caused by Dr. Portuese. I will be reporting Dr. portuese to the state in the hope of saving others. Time to retire Dr. Portuese!! read more

About 16 years ago, Dr. Portuese performed cheek implant surgery on me. I did this because of a depression/scar on my left cheek. When we discussed how to compensate for the imbalance, Dr. Portuese said he could whittle one of the implants down. I, thinking this would require a great deal of aesthetic expertise asked if he was any good at that. He didn't reply, but we agreed that's what he would do. On the day of the surgery, I had marked the area where the depression on my cheek was (which seemed to irritate him) so he would know where to "whittle." Well, long story short, he whittled too much off the implant, leaving me with one cheek bigger than the other, which all of my friends noticed, so I knew it wasn't just me. When I went to see him to have it corrected (which I was totally willing to pay for), he simply said the symmetry was perfect and wouldn't agree to correct his mistake. I have lived my life, ever since, trying to correct the asymmetry with fillers, etc. and have never been able to achieve it. I am really really happy I chose Dr Portuese as my surgeon. When I first saw him at my consultation and he looked at my nose he knew exactly what he needed to do. I was impressed right away. I do have to say, I had a small complication that Dr Portuese handled beautifully. One of the "grafts" didn't quite take in my nose and I had a small dent on one side of my nose at about 3 months. The dr said it unfortunately just happens sometimes, my body does heal really strangely. He offered to inject with a filler at no charge and when the filler wears off (1+ years later), he will go back in and put a new graft in for pretty much free. My experience with Dr. Portuese was phenomenal. I have had BDD since my early teens, namely about my nose/facial features. I decided to get a dorsal hump reduction to boost my self confidence as well as functional facial symmetry. When I went to Dr. Portuese's office to describe to him what I wanted, he made me feel at ease from the beginning. He, along with his team, layed out what could be accomplished with the procedure and what to expect. I set the date and when the time came, the surgery went flawlessly. I have wanted my nose done for as long as I can remember and I finally booked my surgery this past January and had my surgery last month. This is the first time that I write a bad review for a doctor. I had the worst experience with Dr.Portuese office. They had such a strong effect on me that I've decided to stay away from all plastic surgeons forever. Whatever my face is it doesn't worth to deal with such horrible people. Here is my story: Many years ago I had an accident which broke my nose, my head and left lots of wounds all over my face. A doctor did a surgery on my nose and fixed the broken part and did some beauty work to enhance the appearance. He did really good job. However, by getting older my nose start changing and shrinking, the bone looks like a zigzag and the tip bended to the left, it's ugly and uneven. My bone between my eyes is so painful that I can't even wear my sunglasses. I got free consultation from few doctors. One friend recommend me visit Dr.Portuese. I called his office and they refer me to his Hillsboro office, I called his Hillsboro office and set an appointment. I asked the lady on the phone if it's a free consultation and she said yes but there is a $125 fee if I don't show up. The day of the visit I entered the office and the lady in front desk asked my name and gave me some paperwork to do and said I can have a seat in the lobby and someone is taking me to Dr office shortly. I said thank you and then remembered that I had a question, so, I stopped there and waited for her to get back to the window, she thought I walked away and I overheard her and another lady making fun of my name and laughing. This was the first time that someone found my name funny! I got so upset and went to the lobby, the lady came and gave me a fake smile, I told her if it's really hard to say my name she can just call me Peggy, her face got yellow and she started mumbling nonsense excuses like "oh I just wasn't sure how to say your name!" Then the same lady took me to a room and took some photos. Then doctor came and I explained my problems and he said that he can't help those problems, he said he can not fix the uneven nasal holes or bended nose tip. Then I went to another room and finance person was there, she was pretty nice and explained that my surgery cost is going to be $12,500 and I have to pay the full amount two weeks before surgery, they don't work with any kind of insurance or credits, and they don't make it to payments. I was confused and I told her that Dr said he can't help my problems, so what he is going to do in the surgery? She showed me one image with literally no changes and said he is going to smooth down the bone and they can't show other pictures because they don't show anything! I was clear with the doctor that I don't want my nose get smaller. Few weeks after the visit, I received a $125 bill! I called his office and I asked what this bill is for. The billing person said they charge for consultation, I explained to her that asked the front desk if it's a free consultation and she said yes but there is a $125 fee if I don't show up. The billing person said they have to be fair to all patients, they got the money from other people, so I have to pay! I actually found the answer really funny, it's like they really care about people by taking their money. I explained more and I just wasted my time, every time she repeated the same sentence and not even bother to listen. She said there is a $125 fee if you show up or not and they always take it, I asked if it's so why they don't ask people to pay as they get to the office before the visit, she said they had my card number but the transaction didn't go through, the card number was wrong! Lots of lies! Nasty environment! I found their names from the Dr website, the billing person is "Connie" and the lady that had lots of fun with my name is "Jamie!". They have to be really ashamed for the way they treat others! Conclusion: staff are super mean, disrespectful, unkind and irresponsible. They care about your money, your name, and your nationality more than you or your concerns. You have to be crazy brave to trust such people with your beauty. Go and check this doctor before and after photos work, in many of them you don't see any changes! It's really clever, he gets the money and not challenging himself to fix the patient problems. If you really need a plastic surgeon, go and find a good one in California. It's not like Oregon-Washington area, there are too many of them there, so it's competitive and they have to be really good to stay in the business. I hope it helps! read more

If you want to look artificial, over-done and surreal then go see one of those guys in Bellevue. Dr. Portuese performed my rhinoplasty a few years back. And when I turn 50 a few years from now and will need a facial 'tune up' I'll be heading back to see him again. Recently I referred a good friend to him--she is 5 years older than me. August 18, 2016 Review of Seattle Facial and Plastic Surgery Center Dr. William Portuese, MD After months of searching internet sites and reading reviews I chose to have my facelift done by Dr. Portuese at Seattle Facial Plastic Surgery Center. He has extensive credentials and training and also teaches at the University of Washington. I wanted a surgeon who specializes in the head and neck, rather than someone who does multiple procedures throughout the body. Coupled with the majority of positive reviews, I knew my choice was solid. At 66 years old, my skin was beginning to sag and I had lines around my mouth. Dr. Portuese understood my feeling that my face did not match my fitness level, physical energy and inside feelings. My surgery date was the first week of May 2016. My recovery was fast and by 5-6 weeks much of the swelling and redness had dissipated. Now, 14 weeks later, I could not be more thrilled with the results, Dr. Portuese's skill, and the entire office staff. My face has a natural, younger, and refreshed look. At my initial appointment, Dr. Portuese thoroughly explained the facelift procedure and results I could expect. He also suggested he perform dermabrasion on the lower half of my face, below my nose and around my mouth. I am so glad I listened to his advice. Dermabrasion virtually eliminated almost all of my vertical lip lines. The overall effect of the facelift and dermabrasion is very natural looking. Friends I have had for thirty years did not realize I had these procedures. They have just kept telling me how great I look and how "rested and healthy." I found Dr. Portuese to be professional, and a very caring physician. Out of kindness, he offered to straighten one of my ears that had been botched in an otoplasty when I was very young. In addition, the entire staff, from front desk, patient care coordinator, and administrative assistant, to nurses and surgical staff went out of their way to help me feel relaxed and positive while clearly explaining to me the steps of each procedure. I appreciated the transparency on costs and results I personally could expect, since every patient is unique. Dr. Portuese and staff demonstrated their team approach and competence pre-surgery, day of surgery and during post-surgical appointments. One week post upper and lower blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Portuese and I couldn't be more pleased. Dr Portuese did my septoplasty and tiptoplasty in March and I can finally write this review to say I am beyond pleased with the results. After 5 months my nose is healing beautifully. My nose looks like "mine" but better! The doctor and all staff are friendly, professional, and never intimidating. Dr P told me realistically what I could expect with healing and offered simple remedies for night time swelling. I want to start by pointing out that I have another cosmetic surgeon I've used for many years who was willing to perform my rhinoplasty. While I trust him, I decided to do my due diligence and conduct some research on facial plastic surgeons. I came across Dr. Portuese and, after much research on his qualifications, a very smooth consultation, many compassionate calls with his staff, a easy surgical experience, and a final result that exceeded my expectations, I am so happy I decided to have him perform my procedure (I felt so bad going to someone other than my other surgeon, who does not specialize in noses). Not only was everyone in his office incredibly kind and professional, the entire surgical procedure felt so easy and I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Portuese took the time to talk to me about the procedure and fully explain what he could do, as well as what he could not do, setting realistic expectations early on. Come to find out, rhinoplasty is one of the most complicated cosmetic surgeries there is, so knowing I was having someone perform my procedure who specializes in this put my worries at ease. I appreciated the computer imaging he is able to do, which not all surgeons have access to, as well as his website having many before / after photos and straight-forward pricing. There isn't one thing I would have changed about my experience and I have the nose I always wanted! Dr. Portuese and his staff are life changers. I read a lot of reviews, visited other surgeons, and felt confident, once I met Dr. Portuese, that he was the best, and this has proven true. I had a very successful rhinoplasty, it was much smoother and easier that I imagined, and his staff has been friendly and welcoming from day 1 through my follow-up visits. I haven't even had the chance to go into this office to meet the Dr or RNs yet. Why? I called in about Restalyne and the receptionist told me "we don't do that". I asked if she can refer me and she told me to "google it". I said, "I'm sorry... did you just tell me to 'google' someone to poke sharp objects into my face?" She immediately got attitude with me and started up with the quintessential, ignorant, "fine, fine, that's fine, whatever" response. You know, the idiotic response when someone has nothing intelligent to say other than crap? That she told me to "google" someone should have been enough to tell me who I was dealing with. I immediately called the office who referred me to this place, they apologised, and I told them i'd be writing this review, and EVERY person i referred to them I'm telling to go elsewhere. And until they stop referring out to this place who will employ such a stupid person, they will cease going to them for any service. read more

I had revision rhinoplasty done by Dr Portuese in June 2014 (1,5 year ago). I am unhappy with the outcome of this surgery. The result is not as promised and not looking good at all. I had depression and I have not been working for many months now. I wasn't feeling like going out or talking to people. I haven't seen my family. I trusted in Dr Portuese's best intention to make my nose beautiful because of his 25 years of experience, very good online reviews and his high self confidence. However the result of the surgery tells me that Dr Portuese either does not have quite the right skills or sense of beauty or both. Dr Portuguese wouldn't admit his job is looking bad even though another surgeon suggested to correct what should have already been corrected, and even though a friend tells me that it was looking better before that revision. During the first follow up appointment I could not stop myself from crying for a long time, and Dr Portuese's assistant was trying to make me feel better and told me that my emotional state is temporary and I am going to feel better soon and that she had plastic surgeries done by Dr Portuese which left her unable to breath and depressed for a long time and she had to undergo corrective surgeries to be happy with the final result. Look at her and you will see the final result is not great. (I am not giving her name but you can see photos on seattlefacial.com) One of Dr Portuese's advises was to not to look in the mirror for a year until you can undergo another correction, in case the result is not as expected. Dr Portuese highlighted that at this stage he is only interested to see if there is no infection. Few weeks back I asked Dr Portuese to return the money I spend on this surgery without asking for any compensation. Dr Portuese would tell me off not comining for multiple follow up appointments (which was due to the distance) but I don't believe this has anything to do with the final result. Dr Portuese asked me to come to see him (I haven't seen him as yet because of the distance) and would agree to do another revision to correct issues, but would not agree to return the money (in case you want to go for a better specialist). Before surgery, Dr Portuese's assistant would find excuses to not to email you your simulation photo, e.g. because she didn't save, but she could have done the simulation again, couldn't she? During the day of surgery, Dr Portuese's assistant would call you and make you sign the papers while standing by the reception desk, at about the time the surgery was planned to start, giving you impression you are about to go, while after you have signed the documents, she would send you to sit at the reception and wait there for the next 15 minutes. read more
